Why is the son not feature in this photo?????

This proves that the producers didn't think much of the lionel character and only wanted to focus on the relationship between George, Louise, and his mother.

I don't know. Back then when characters appeared on magazine covers such as TV Guide, not all the characters would always appear on the cover.

Lionel should have been included in that photo! It's no wonder why he left.

Wasn't the real reason that Michael Evans left was to concentrate on Good Times?
Didn't the first Lionel help create Good Times?
Also, was the the reason that on GT they were the Evans family?

The jeffersons move up ep doesn't count which means she was only seen 1 time AITF versus Lionel's 19 appearances

No, he left because his role became too small on the show and asked Norman lear how can he get off the show

How come the 2nd Lionel also left?
I read somewhere (People Magazine?) that Damon Evans hated Hollywood.

Why did Michael Evans come back after GT was cancelled?
How long was he on before he left for good?

I have to look for why Damon Evans left, I may have posted

Mike Evans returned because he ran into Sherman Hemsley during the summer of 1979 and that's how he got back on the show. I think he left for good in 1981 or 1982 and made one last appearance in 1985

I found my post about Damon Evans left, read below

I found out back in 2006 Half of the reason why Damon evans left in 1978 from a Jet Magazine. Damon wanted more money and he didn't it so he left the Jeffersons after season 4. At that time I coukdn't figure out why he would be asking for money but I found out tonight. I was reading about the movie Roots in my TV Book and thenI came aross a TV show called-"Roots, The Next Generations that premeired in Feb of 1979. Damon Evans was a cast member on this show so it appears that ABC approached him in 1978 about being involved on this show and that's what probably made him DEMAND more money to stay on the Jeffersons because he had the Roots TV show in his back pocket. Plus production for the Roots TV show started in 1978 which he why Damon asked for more money before season 5 of the Jeffersons started. So him requesting more money all makes a lot of sense now but damm sure didnt make sense in 2006-lol

There's another photo where those three are wearing the same outfits, but Lionel is in the picture, so I'm assuming it was from a set of promo shots on set. That said, the writers didn't do a whole lot with Lionel, so it's very understandable that Mike Evans would leave.

You sure it was the producers and not Ebony Here is Jet Magazine from November 11, 1976. I think the Ebony one may have been from January 1977.

Some incorrect info posted here.

Michael Evans departure from The Jeffersons was basically due in part to Norman Lear, who did not want Evans appearing regularly on The Jeffersons while producing Good Times. It was already the plan that Evans would not be featured much (if any) on The Jeffersons while Good Times was on the air. Good Times premiered February 1974, The Jeffersons January 1975, so Michael was already working on Good Times.

Once Good Times ended in 1979, Michael tried to return to The Jeffersons but the show was already a well-established hit, and the focus was not on his character anymore (and would not be any more, despite his returning.) He was not all that interested in appearing "on occasion", although he did for a time and then left. He did agree to come back once or twice more for a storyline that was about Lionel & Jenny's divorce.

As for Damon Evans, he made it abundantly clear he wanted nothing to do with situation comedy. Although my theory is that he did, but producers didn't really care for his portrayal of Lionel, so he was let go, although years later he made it sound like he left because he "hated" sitcoms.

I've been told you are a notorious bully on this site, threatening people on here who post. While the administrators of this site choose, obviously, not to ban you, whatever, that is fine. But you are nobody, a nothing and I owe you no explanation. This is an open site for people to post. You don't like what people post, then come up with FACTS to challenge what people say. If you can't come up with facts or reliable sources, then don't resort to online bullying or acting like you own this site. Get a life.

I recently saw a video on Youtube that was a cast reunion of The Jeffersons before Sherman Hemsley died. It was Hemsley, Marla Gibbs, Ned Wertimer, Berlinda Tolbert, Damon Evans, some cast from "Amen" and a surprise appearance from Sally Struthers who danced with Hemsley. Now I can't find it. Did anyone else see this video? If you find it, can you post a link?

An interesting factoid. Where they are going around and asking people to sing the theme from the show was filmed at the Grove and Farmer's Market, which is located just behind CBS Television City in Hollywood where All in the Family and the first season or so of The Jeffersons was taped.

Is it true that Mike Evans was hated on-set because he thought he was the star of the show but clearly never was? Isabelle Sanford, Sherman Hemsley, even Zara Cully saw some horrible things in their acting career and they were overjoyed to be on a hit show, getting a regular paycheck and being on a show that had upper income black people. They therefore, had no time for Mike Evans.

He was the son so why would his role be smaller than the grandmother who was only seen once on All in the family? I would have been upset too about my decreased role for someone who was in their 80's.

Why couldn't they have equal screen time? I was that eager to watch a 86 year old women every episode
