View Full Version : The Best Season of "I Love Lucy"
LucyFan 02-19-2002, 04:02 AM What do you think was the Best Season of I Love Lucy
Season 1: Lucy always getting into Ricky's Act
Season 2: Lucy's Pregnancy
Season 3: A New Family: Lucy, Ricky, and Little Ricky
Season 4: Visiting Hollywood
Season 5: Visiting Europe
Season 6: Moving to the Country
Please vote for the BEST Season!
dawsongirl 02-19-2002, 04:13 PM I voted for season one (bet I'll be in the minority), but season 2 is a close second. Anything before Little Ricky was born.
Terry Ross 02-20-2002, 01:13 PM The last seasons were the best. There was character development and the humor was delivered in a more sophisticated manner. The four main actors had mastered their characters to a tee. Couldn't pick one season over another but from Hollywood on, the episodes were classics.
dawsongirl . . . . you and I radically disagree on this one.
Barnabas1 02-20-2002, 01:25 PM FIRST RULES! #35 Ricky Asks For A Raise
didn't care much for The Little Ricky ones.:p

LOL! Very true, but I see your point. Well, except for the Connecticut episodes. Those screamed "We're running out of ideas!!"
jamier42 02-20-2002, 07:36 PM I like too many but I guess Season 6 Going to the Country and 2nd Season 4 Visiting Hollywood.

Oh come on! I love the Connecticut eps. Especially "Lucy Raises Tulips" and "Country Club Dance."
Fred: You know, I kinda think she went for me? I think it was the Yul Brenner influence.

Okay, I admit, they weren't all bad. I do love "Country Club Dance" and "Housewarming" and "Lucy's Night in Town." But some of the others just didn't do it for me.
Ricardos4ever 03-01-2002, 09:29 PM It was a hard decision for me, but I choose the first season. I agree with those who say it was a little bit better before Little Ricky was born. The last couple of seasons lacked much romance, although it was always funny. Season 4 would be my second choice. The Hollywood episodes were all classics. But I loved all of the seasons!

Season 1 is winning! Am I the only one who is surprised?

Yuck! No offense, but I *hate* Season One. I love the following seasons but the first season was awful IMO. The scripts were silly, the characters were undefined and unrealistically written. It's like night and day compared to the second through sixth seasons where the stories were believable and the characters seemed real, not like cartoons. My favorite season is a toss-up between the second and fourth seasons, closely followed by the third season.
NCVARick 03-04-2002, 05:31 PM You hit the nail on the head, Terry!

"Ricky Asks for a Raise"? I could never get past what they're trying to make us believe -- that Mr. Littlefield is so stupid and clueless that he can't figure out this is Lucy Ricardo and company in disguise. He knows her. And their disguises certainly weren't THAT good. They didn't alter their faces in any way. It's such an unbelievable premise.
dawsongirl 03-04-2002, 11:29 PM It's all willing suspension of disbelief; it looks ridiculous, but we take it for what it is- funny. This whole show was based around that concept.
Moondance 03-05-2002, 09:24 PM I loved the 1 & 2 season and when they went to Hollywood!
Feenster Girl
cubsfan1060 06-25-2002, 02:24 PM I enjoyed the entire 179 episodes myself. The reason I chose the 1953-1954 season is because there were several laughs and many moments were made. My second favorite season is season 1. The only thing is that if Desi and Wilbur stuck to the faster ending theme music, it would have been my favorite. Most of the episodes in season 1 had fast ending music anyway. My third pick is seasons 4 and 5. My fifth is season 6. My favorite episode is Lucy Meets Bob Hope. WHen I first saw this episode, it was very original and the music was very I Love Lucy material. At the end, Bob sung Thanks For The Memories. Then, my favorite part, the ending theme music. Finally, season 6. It is not my leasst favorite season. I liked the entire 6 years!
baronzzz 06-26-2002, 01:05 AM I love the Hollywood episodes!!
And......
The first season was definitely my least favorite.
I Loved them all except the last season in Connecticut. I think the Hollywood episodes were the best!!!
Michael [hXc] 04-12-2004, 07:32 AM I picked season 4, a lot of my favorite episodes were there. The Hollywood episodes were great, having Lucy meeting Bob Hope and John Wayne. My least favorite is, sorry if this is offense, season 1. The characters weren't developed yet.
SPLAIN 04-12-2004, 09:41 AM Exactly, that's the main reason to find fault with season one, especially the first few shows. And it looks like most people agree that the Hollywood eps were the best fo the series, as far as a group of eps is concerned, the European ones weren't as good but had their great moments also. Then they were running out of ideas for season six.

Yep, that's the same way I feel. I can't wait for Season Two to come out on DVD. :D
SPLAIN 04-12-2004, 02:51 PM Yeah, i just read where they are coming out in May, i thought it was July! That's GREAT news!

Kazza 04-12-2004, 03:01 PM Tom Watson said there is a date change again:rolleyes:

Fran=Lucy 04-12-2004, 03:07 PM Oh It's ok, I can wait hehehe. My birthday is in June! ;)
SPLAIN 04-12-2004, 03:41 PM Well tell Tom to stay out of this then, i want them now, at this rate it will be 2024 before we have all her shows! Then again, Tom would know for sure!
x1LucyFanx 04-13-2004, 01:44 AM OMG! What can I say...I loved them all! There were so many funny moments in each season. But I chose season 1 because I've enjoyed watching my season 1 DVDs so much. But I think each season tied.
x1LucyFanx 04-13-2004, 01:46 AM Fran=Lucy--My birthday is in June, too! ;)

Really?! Wow! On he same date!!! WooHoo! Let's make a party!!! :happyface
party: party: party:
BTW, love your avatar! She looks so elegant! :D
SPLAIN 04-13-2004, 12:55 PM All right now, that's enough, save some enthuseasm for July, that's when mine rolls along, LOL!
crazyredhead 04-13-2004, 04:16 PM Hmmm..I definitely disgree about the epsidoes before Little Ricky. I love the seasons after Little Ricky was born because they were more established in their character and I'm just a big fan of Little Ricky! LOL They definitely did not show enough of him. You notice that in alot of the later episodes Little Ricky always has to BE somewhere?! And why doesn't he ever get to go on the trips The only one he went on was the one to Florida.
Kazza 04-13-2004, 04:31 PM Maybe because he was a brat?!

But get that enthusiasm going for May because that's when MY birthday is! :happyface
Maybe because he was a brat?!
 Nah, Little Ricky was definitely a goody two shoes. Kieth Thibodeaux said that the bad thing about Little Ricky was that he was always too sweet and well behaved, and never did anything to get himself in a little trouble.
Fran=Lucy 04-13-2004, 09:48 PM Woo, lots of birthdays this summer!! Hahaha!!!! Let's party! :happyface :D
party:  :yippee: :drink: party:
SPLAIN 04-14-2004, 10:04 AM Sounds like a plan, let's start now! As for lil Ricky, he was just part of a well oiled machine, just an afterthought for plotlines, not well rounded like the main four, he was only ON for a year.
crazyredhead 04-14-2004, 05:03 PM I'm surprised Little Ricky acted the way he did with him having the mother he had. ;)
SPLAIN 04-15-2004, 09:43 AM Exactly, if he had been on a few more years he would have become more of a Danny Partridge kind of kid, LOL!
EmoJoe 05-14-2004, 08:53 PM I liked Season 4 because that is when they went to Califorina. :)
LucyCompanyPhan 01-31-2005, 12:14 AM When I watched I Love Lucy, it was always on tv and I never realized the seasons. I just knew what episodes were my favorites. I don't think I have a favorite season. Maybe once I get them all on dvd I'll be able to decide upon viewing them in that fashion. I do have to agree that I wasn't fond of Little Ricky episodes as much the others. I just don't think I could choose because there are so many classic episodes mixed in with each season. I think the only season that is most memorable though is the hollywood season, but I still don't know if that is my favorite.
savy333 02-06-2005, 04:08 PM I just got the season three box set and I dare say it is my favorite season. Great storylines! Ethel and Fred are always coming up with the funniest insults for each other! I have all the box sets and the show just gets better and better with each season. I am expecting season four (the hollywood season) to be great! I love owning these episodes on DVD. The only season that is not up to par is season one. I think the characters were not developed enough. Although it is still a great bunch of episodes.
I voted for Season 4.
I can’t bring myself to say, “I hated an episode or season” – but I thought the last season (pre-Connecticut) were really weak shows. The only good Season 6 episode (pre-Connecticut) was Off to Florida, where Lucy & Ethel ride down South with Mrs. Grundy (who they think is the infamous hatchet murderess).
pilotguy 08-01-2005, 11:02 AM While most of the Season 1 "I LOVE LUCY" episodes are considered classics (if somewhat SILLY classics), I have trouble watching some of those early episodes because Lucy and Ethel LOOK so strange in them.....
In some of those early episodes, it looks like Lucy's not wearing any makeup (or very little), and Ethel's hair color and style seem to change from episode to episode. There just seems to be no visual uniformity to the ladies' appearance as compared to the later seasons.
I know that it's a trivial thing, but it's something that bugs me!

Something else too....I absolutely HATE those two first-season episodes where the Mertzes are nowhere to be found! (The episode with Richard Crenna & Janet Waldo, and the episode with Edward Everett Horton & Bea Benaderet).
While I'm a fan of those four guest stars and admire their work, those two episodes just aren't right without Fred and Ethel. I wonder WHY the Mertzes were written out of those two episodes? It's almost as if Lucy and Desi were trying to prove that THEY were the REAL stars of the series, and William Frawley and Vivian Vance weren't required for the show's success.

Which is coompletely untrue because those episodes sucked! The Mertzes are the best part of the show! I love Fred and Ethel!
JaneTVFan 08-05-2005, 01:35 AM I voted for Season 4.

Actually, one of my favorite episodes of the series is "Lucy and the Loving Cup." The scene in the subway after Lucy and Ethel separate and Lucy realizes she's lost the veil always cracks me up. "Visitor from Italy" is fairly high up there, too. And though the episode as a whole is not stellar, the tango scene in "Lucy Does the Tango" is one of my favorite scenes from the series. All four four stars have something to contribute to make that scene so priceless, particularly Lucy, Desi and Vivian, but especially Lucy who so brilliantly kept milking the laughs.
TheLandfordLunchBox 09-12-2005, 02:48 PM I voted for season 4
Crusinforabrusin 07-28-2016, 07:09 AM I particularly enjoyed The Connecticut years. It was a change of pace and different scenery which I enjoy. Though all seasons are good
Peppermint Patty 09-23-2016, 02:49 PM Season 1 gets my vote followed closely by Season 2.
