I thought Corky Knievel was pretty funny most of the time, although he did have a few weird hang-ups, like an obsession with disliking Tony Lombardi's mom.

That guy's not firing on all cylinders. After he was put on universal ignore (after beng warned by CD not once but twice to stay OT and stop the racist rants) he sent me a bizarre barrage of private messages screaming about how "he knew" I reported him to SO (I did not). He then went on to spew more of his incessant garbage about race and then finally complimented me on my vocabulary (which he apparently found to be on par with his own) before he finally left me alone.

He's not the creepiest individual I've had pm me on the board, but he's up there.

Whatever happened to Mastermind? Someone wrote up a great UM style thread bemoaning his absence.

I couldn't read Mastermind's posts. You are right about the poor grammar, but what really got me were the sentence fragments. It's like he stopped in the middle of a thought and then went on to the next thought.

Me too. I thought he came up with some pretty...interesting...ideas frequently. Nonetheless, I enjoyed having him around because he was always really into the discussions. He was enthusiastic, and he was always absolutely pleasant. He wasn't a know-it-all like cocytus (whose theories I often found preposterous, frankly--I distinctly remember something about Pamela June Ray being a prostitute :confused: :rolleyes: ), or one of those three-post types that contribute little more than "PAUL POLLIS IZ STUPID!!1!" Yeah, I wasn't a fan of cocytus either. If I recall correctly, CD had him leave the board because he insulted a poster who claimed to be a family member in the Liebling case and made mention that it was just an "obscure case" etc. etc. XD I liked Mastermind and his avatar :D

cocytus was a nut. Plain and simple. If you didn't agree with him, he would fire back a response with all of his points numbered, act like what he was saying was the proven, gospel truth and berate you for not taking the same position as he did. Guy had some serious stones to start a thread about the supposed downhill turn the forum was taking. Guy couldn't make an argument without being a total douche about it. Kind of reminded me of kadrmas.

Maybe we should start a "Let's talk about former posters that you *don't* miss". That would be fun. Any of the old-timers remember that racist whackjob Biblecode? Oh how I really miss cocytus. Every one of his posts were condescending, and his constant referring to everyone as "poster" always got under my skin. He insisted that Mike Riemer was still alive (wrong) and that Pamela June Ray was a druggie (again wrong), and despite evidence to the contrary he wouldn't back down from his opinion.

I was utterly shocked at the way he behaved in that Liebling thread WishfulDreamer mentioned. I think it was the first reply to her post that family member got. It mortified me that someone would actually think that's a way to treat anyone, let alone a family member connected to a case. I think the best word to describe him is rabid, precisely for the reasons wiseguy outlined. It's like he took it personally when you disagreed with him.

His pet theories always had the same general theme too: the individual in question was either a drug addict (despite no indications of that possibility whatsoever) or prostitute (every stripper was suspect)--or he or she was "secretly" gay (as if everyone would, of course, be ashamed to be out :rolleyes:). They weren't particularly brilliant.

He just oozed with intellectual insecurity as well. I caught a couple of his posts on the Politics board and he got mobbed on pretty hard by most of the other posters there. His debate ship sunk around him in short order frequently. I guess he would then come over here to take out his frustration. :lol: And yes, that way he would always call members "poster" (who does that when there's a username RIGHT THERE next to the post?!) was utterly and completely obnoxious. I always thought it was an attempt to sound intimidating that really didn't work.

I couldn't stand the guy.

Yeah, he was the only poster that made me actually avoid reading the message boards, and I'm pretty sure the only poster I ever actually blocked. I'm pretty sure he insulted Keith Warren's family/friends who were posting on this board as well. Always keeping it classy...a real treat for everyone! :rolleyes:

Yeah. I don't visit the politics board often, but I know he was as 'bout as well liked over there as he was here. As in, not very much.

I'm not kidding, 900 posts. I know some people just post to raise their count, but that's ridiculous even by those standards. Maybe somebody from back then can help me out with her username, I'm drawing a blank. Had a Dolly Parton avatar.

I've read older threads and seen posts from him that seem just fine, but I've never seen the stuff that got him banned. I've always been curious about that.

And I'd totally forgotten cocytus and the whole Pamela June Ray bashing. What on Earth? There was no evidence at all she was into drugs or anything. Speaking of Todd Mueller (the segment), my gym is just a few blocks down from that bank he tried to scam in Honolulu (it's a branch of Hawaii National Bank now, not sure what it was then). Well Tony Ballesteros was years ago and I don't remember all the details but he was definitely a troll. Trying to saying things that would get people riled and never used punctuation or capital letters (one of the things that made him easy to catch when he tried to reregister). He tried to rejoin as "Special Agent Moss" which was someone else interviewed on UM I believe but I can't remember what his 3rd screen name was.

As far as names, Crushed Velvet has to be one of my favorites. I still see new posters on here that screen name's crack me up...spastic jerk for example. :)

As far as ones who used to post but don't anymore or rarely ever do that I would like to see back would be Todd Mueller, Chris Billings and Jeeps.

The arguments here are patty cake compared to my experiences in Las Vegas, and on other forums. Generally here they resolve amicably...on to another case.

The only problem, as I've mentioned recently, is lack of result. The same debate hovers and wanes, hovers and wanes. If I return after a lengthy absence and see an old thread bumped, the overwhelming favorite is a rehash of familiar theories, on both sides. That's partially the reason I no longer post regularly on true crime sites. Nobody is persuaded, or proven correct or dope.

Frankly, it was the EAR-ONS forum on A&E that drove me over the edge. There was an otherwise very sharp and diligent poster who was pushing a ridiculous EAR A/EAR B copycat theory that was sidetracking the entire board every day. This was many years ago. The brainwashing was unbelievable, topped only by the real world odds against his version. Many Sacramento locals post on that forum. They were so giddy at work being done on the case they were willing to accept anything. His nonsense provoked exponentially more absurd offshoots from other posters. Anyone like me who jumped in and described why it was a flawed theory was attacked.

Just not worth it, especially as my parents' health declined. That was a major variable in loss of interest in crime cases. I didn't need doctors and hospitals by day, and deciphering murder cases at night. Besides, on forums involving football or golf or betting or politics I have so much background I can fake it, even if I haven't paid any attention for months and months. Here I can't fake it, with few exceptions. I struggle to remember the majority of these cases. There's no refresher course available, with the episodes no longer aired, and yanked from that video source, the one that this site apparently continues to be petrified of.

I almost forgot to mention that EAR A/EAR B was shot down via DNA evidence a couple of years ago, when Goleta was conclusively linked.

BTW, responding to someone else's post, I disagree with the knocks on Siberian Kiss. He was a riot, and very well informed. Terrific sense of shock value, here and on the USC football forum on Rivals. All you had to do was handicap him properly.

Last time I was here I spotted a fairly recent post from him in the peripheral forum above. He was ripping Disappeared. That's astute handicapping in itself. Lots of unwarranted praise toward that show. It's as if everyone loved the premise of the program and didn't bother to check the pathetic execution. It's invariably one of two tracks -- obvious subject or result but no way to prove it, or simply not enough information, a wisp in the wind. Neither avenue even threatens the ideal type of case for a true crime show, featuring just enough evidence and doubt for 50/50 dispute. Sometimes the show went on tilt and provided disjointed cases that didn't warrant the title Disappeared in the first place, as Siberian Kiss pointed out.

Yes Siberiankiss was a peach. Hero-worshipping the tunnel robbers (criminals), openly wishing for all of his co-workers to get robbed at gunpoint and referring to Lifetime as "the effin' d--- channel". Well, you're two peas in a pod.

And Disappeared is approximately a million times better than the other current offerings in the true crime genre these days. It doesn't rely on close-ups of disturbing images, over-the-top, in-your-face graphics and other garbage. Perhaps you prefer Wives With Knives?

Way I figure it is this: you feel a board is lackluster, do something about it. You don't accomplish what you wish to your satisfaction, move on. No one wants to read a six-paragraph litany of reasons why one person thinks a board's discussions are so beneath them when there are plenty of posters here--myself included--who think the whole nine yards are just great: threads, discussions, and members all around.

Another poster I always enjoyed. Lastly, I find posts by SmokeScreen (might be wrong on the username, but he had the Zodiac avatar) hilarious! Particularly when he would mention people on UM he didn't like or his opinion of the rap music in Tracey Bunn segment. And best of all, his opinion of Billy Mesmer :D

I know others will see me as an Awsi apologist, but I don't really care. MegtheEgg and Crystaldawn (who I both like and respect) think he should move on and in all fairness, you guys, he did. I did not read his post as an insult. If it was meant to be an insult, it was misplaced, as I think that spinning your wheels is sort of the nature of the beast when it comes to *unsolved* cases. So many of these cases have zero movement, unfortunately, so very few theories actually get tested and we rarely see actual news. It's so delightful when it *does* happen - when we get a new piece of info, an arrest, a message from a family member - and those are the moments I hang around for.

A director's cut of the film has been released. Bogdanovich initially wanted to use Springsteen's music for the soundtrack. Something ultimately prevented this and the classic Seger sound was added in its place. Along with deleted scenes that supposedly add to the film, the director's cut also brings back the Bruce music. I have yet to watch this version and am very hesitant to hear Springsteen in lieu of the perfectly-placed Seger tracks. We're talking about bikers here; I'm thinking Seger wins this one with nary a whimper from The Boss!

Yeah I agree she did do a great job you did feel like his death was for real,very well done,I remember when she smashed all of the glasses once shed realized hed died.

I also liked the scene where Rocky graduates and all of his moms friends come to cheer him on,that was a pretty cool scene.

Yeah that really blew that they did that, I was used to the Seager songs once you go and replace them with other songs it ruins the flow of the film.

Katmandu just fit the beginning of the film so well.

My grandfather's nickname for my dad has always been Hambone. I think of them both every time I see one of Hambone's posts. With regards to this thread, I also enjoyed Mastermind's posts from time to time. My other favorite posters have all chimed in on this thread already. Meg, wiseguy, and nohwheregirl just to name a few. Oh and crystaldawn gets an honorable mention!

I am from Texas, which is very pro death penalty. I never said a word about this to kadrmas and one day he started blowing up my inbox griping at me as though I was Governor Perry signing all these death sentence warrants. I deleted and blocked him after that.

Kadarmas and I got into a snark-fest shortly after he left the boards (can't remember why, honestly) and he sent me a TON of forwarded PM's where he had been talking crap about me with other posters on the forum.

I think he wanted to make me cry. Mission accomplished: I cried from laughing really really hard. I suspect he had some stuff going on in his personal life. Even though the crap he did to me was mean-spirited, I wish him well.

I echo the same sentiments towards Mastermind. Never had much interaction with him, either, but found his viewpoints an interesting counterpoint to my own.

I don't remember having any beef with kadrmas, but I have known his propensity to seek people out and irritate them on Facebook, which has always been baffling to me. I think he PM'ed me once or twice about the board slowly dying because all of the good posters were no longer there.

So maybe it's odd for me to say, but I actually DO miss his posts that were on topic, because he did bring out several tidbits of information that wasn't featured on UM (Thomas Drake immediately comes to mind). But I can definitely see why others don't miss him.

I made the mistake doing that a few years ago on another message board when I realise some posters didn't share the same views. They didn't want to accept my views like I had to accept their own views. So now I keep my Facebook private I only add people I meet in public, friends, and family.

No he didn't leave willingly. Believe me if he had the chance to be back on here he would be. Granted he did retire once or twice on his own and then came back. I had had enough. Countless times of warning him, him apologizing and promising to stop arguing and not following through. The owner put him on permanent retirement mode at my request. You're welcome everyone....:lol:

I will say I have heard from him a few times on FB since and he has expressed remorse for how he acted on here. I appreciate the apology but its best if he's not back. Some people just can't take the idea of calmly debating topics on message board and letting people have their own opinion without attacking them.

Yes, this. I remember the 2nd time he retired, he was back within a matter of HOURS!! He just couldn't stay away. I think it's killing him he hasn't been able to post in over 4 years. I'm surprised he hasn't started his own UM forum, gotten into arguments with everyone and banned every person that registered.

I had forgotten about that Wiseguy, lol. I remember David Merrifield's niece posting on here. Usually when they post and volunteer they are relatives they're open to discussing the case. I asked her some questions about her uncle's murder (she politely said she didn't want to discuss the case) and he completely flipped out on me for asking! I really don't know what happened to make him completely change like he did over a manner of weeks after being a useful contributor for years.

To clarify several things:

I was the one that referred to "cotton picking" as a racist insult, which kadrmas disagreed with. It was in reference to a cranky old man in the stolen baseball cards segment who was kvetching about the government and what he perceived to be their interference in the case.

He did not retire, he was made to leave the boards, although it doesn't say "banned" under his profile, for whatever reason.

He didn't make one retirement post, there were actually 2, and he came back to the boards after each one.

Dislimb is a friend of mine. I actually thought the whole global ignore thing was horrible to watch play out. Perhaps I would have felt differently had he not been my friend.

As to the question of rare UM segments, it's quite possible he did have them. I know he's got a pretty rare Twilight Zone collection, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

But anyway...

I love lifting and have actually found some pretty good resources on bodybuilding.com before, but let's just say there was definitely an abundance of bro posters on there who were NOT digging the posts about unsolved crimes and disappearances from 25+ years ago. Which is totally understandable. It's a bodybuilding forum. Of course, homeboy had a long history of posting completely OT on here too, so I guess the trend continued.

Matt C got really nuts by the end, but I was never a fan anyway. He once argued that the people in the John Vogel segment weren't justified opening his package...when he was obviously behaving suspiciously, in a border town, and couldn't even remember what he was allegedly mailing. Riiiiiight. And if all the signs had been ignored, a minor drug trafficker and major counterfeiter would have gotten away scot-free. That was one of the few arguments I remember where he (astonishingly!) didn't say anything racist.

But all these pm's are interesting to say the least. If you're that passionate about race relations, why not just find a forum that actually discusses them and post there? Sure, the constant lectures and elitist attitude toward other posters would probably get him on group ignore but at least he'd be ON topic. This is an Unsolved Mysteries forum.

kane (guy with Andy Kaufman avatar) could be confrontational at times, but he did bring a wealth of information in some threads that weren't featured in the UM segments.

But all these pm's are interesting to say the least. If you're that passionate about race relations, why not just find a forum that actually discusses them and post there? Sure, the constant lectures and elitist attitude toward other posters would probably get him on group ignore but at least he'd be ON topic. This is an Unsolved Mysteries forum.

That's basically what I told him, too: Go somewhere else. It's like he absolutely could not comprehend why his posts were inappropriate--be it for their wacked-out content, or the fact that they were wildly OT.

He also attempted to cite the murder of two people I attended college with to make some point about how black-on-white crime was "commonplace". I'm not sure he was expecting I had even heard of the case. Believe me, I had. And his pulling it into a racist argument was not something I appreciated in the least.

They were before my time on here, but I always enjoyed reading posts by nowheregirl and LookslikeCRicci :D Particularly, I liked hearing LookslikeCRicci's insight into law. Also, where's kamy been? Another poster I always enjoyed. Lastly, I find posts by SmokeScreen (might be wrong on the username, but he had the Zodiac avatar) hilarious! Particularly when he would mention people on UM he didn't like or his opinion of the rap music in Tracey Bunn segment. And best of all, his opinion of Billy Mesmer :D

My suggestion is to set up at least two Electronic Voice Phenomenon Surveillance Brigades (EVPSB)--one at Gordon, the other at Huachuca--to fall under the 99th Paranormal Division of the U.S. Army Anti-Poltergeist Command (Airborne), more commonly referred to as USAAPC-A.

Yep. I just came across a thread where Joshypiano had a very interesting and concise theory laid out. For a moment, I wondered where he had been. Then I remembered. :(

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all posters, past and present, for their contributuions to this site. :wave:

Being the free-for-alls that they are, internet forums can so often devolve into cesspools of ignorance and idiocy. That's why I've often been left shocked (and always appreciative) of most of the regular contributors here. It amazes me how many of you are able to present your theories in such a rational manner, especially considering that the subject matter can sometimes border on the silly (e.g. certain paranormal cases).

Like most people nowadays, I belong to other forums which deal in my areas of professional expertise. I can't begin to explain how asinine most of the dialogue usually is, and they're dealing with matters where far less conjecture comes into play!

It's often hard to believe that so many new thoughts, theories and updates are still being exchanged here. UM hit its peak over twenty years ago, yet there is still so much to discuss. That speaks highly of the quaility of the show as well as the collective intellect and ongoing curiosity of all gathered here. Kudos--keep the goodness coming!

The irony is that some of the early posters in the thread have become AWOL recently.

Well I don't post on here that often, but I did wonder what happened to the lady who had the username "Judyhyamsisalive", or something like that.

What an awesome thread idea! My problem however is that I can't recall the user name of the poster I'm thinking of. All I can remember was perusing through a massive Matt Flores thread and stumbling across some rather interesting posts. The poster was going on and on about how Flores's murder wasn't mistaken identity at all, but rather a hit that revolved around his military service. The poster spun a hard to follow (for me at least LOL) web that bordered on a straight up governmental conspiracy theory that would make any JFK enthusiast proud IMO.

The posts were somewhat vague, and this poster repeatedly implied that they had hard evidence backing up their assertions that they were "getting ready" to reveal IIRC. Anytime a confused fellow poster like myself would ask specific questions or request to see the poster's "evidence", he or she would simply repeat their previous posts. To be honest it was one of the most memorable (if not a bit head spinning) experiences I've had on this board, lol. If anyone out there can recall this discussion and the poster's user name, I would be most appreciative. If it turns out the entire thing was something I simply dreamed up while under the influence of my sleep medication, than my apologies and thanks anyway. ;-)

Fowler69 then began to discuss a cover up of the aforementioned crimes that involved the Navy and state/local LE. The poster also mentioned that they had briefly met Matt Flores prior to his murder and that they were even asked to "look after" Flores's widow and young child afterward. At least that's my interpretation of his or her numerous posts.

Again, it was a very interesting discussion (IMO anyway) and can be found in the lengthy Matt Flores thread below beginning at around page 10 or so. If you're feeling particularly brave, not to mention patient lol, give it a go.

The only poster I can think of that I miss, that hasn’t been mentioned, is AllieRain. She was a graphic designer I think, and had a cool pic of her name on a Snapple bottle. Last I saw, she posted about how this forum had become unfriendly, so that’s why she wasn’t here much. Wonder where she is now.

The local yokel police force from that area couldn’t tell the difference though which makes a pretty hilarious side note out of what was otherwise a very sad case.
