"Two and a Half Men" Adds New Series Regular — Charlie Harper’s Long Lost Daughter
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Wednesday May 29, 2013

Charlie Harper had an offspring?! CBS‘ "Two and a Half Men" will look more like "Two Guys and a Girl" next season. I’ve learned that the veteran comedy, which earlier this month was renewed for an 11th season, will introduce a new female series regular character next fall.

The role, a high-profile gig for a young actress, will bring in a major plot twist to the show: I hear the girl, in her late teens or early 20s, shows up on Walden Schmidt’s (Ashton Kutcher) doorstep searching for her father. She claims to be a daughter of the house’s previous owner, recently departed perennial bachelor Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen).

I hear the girl will eventually move in with Walden and her uncle Alan Harper (Jon Cryer). The new character is expected to fill the void left by the departure of Alan’s son Jake as Angus T. Jones recently exited as a regular after 10 seasons on the show.

With the new addition, "Two and a Half Men" will have subbed two of the three characters in the title, following the successful transition from original leading man Sheen to Kutcher two years ago.

Any news as to whom the actress is that will play the daughter?

Shark jump #572, but they have to do something to freshen that rotting corpse of a show up. If they get the right actress and a decent storyline it could work. I doubt it will boost ratings but could maintain them. They need to put the show to sleep but it makes money even with 2 of the highest paid actors on TV. Every year they can get in means more new shows to sell into syndication also.

With the number of women Charlie Harper "hooked up" with it should come as no surprise that he has a long lost child. In fact it seems possible he could have a number of long lost children. However I agree that the intoduction of this character is a "jump the shark" momment for the series.

Haha good shows struggle while this piece of trash show lugs on. Unbelievable. Just get rid of it already. It'll live on forever in re-runs on literally every cable station in existence.

Fairly certain it's still on just because CBS is worried that once it cancels this and, 20 years from now, The Big Bang Theory, it'll be in just as much trouble as the other networks.

I definitely agree that adding Charlie Harper's long-lost daughter jumps the shark since it could also change the show's dynamics. On the positive side, it does fill the void left by the exit of Angus T. Jones and opens up broader storylines.

True to their word from last May (http://www.thetvaddict.com/2013/05/29/tv-trope-alert-two-and-a-half-men-looking-to-add-half-a-woman/), TWO AND A HALF MEN producers have begun to address their veteran show’s recent ratings slide by commencing the search for a young female actress to join the ranks. More interestingly still, according to a casting scoop from E! Online (http://ca.eonline.com/news/437676/charlie-sheen-s-daughter-to-be-a-lesbian-on-two-and-a-half-men-get-the-details/), “the the pivotal new role of Charlie Harper’s (Charlie Sheen) illegitimate daughter has been written as 21 years old, ‘sexy and gorgeous,’ and gay. The new character, Jenny, will share many traits with her deceased father, including her love of women.” As such, we here at theTVaddict.com would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our plea that the only way we’ll support such a blatantly jump-the-shark-esque manoeuvre is if the writing staff show a sense of humor about it and names the new character Olive (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CousinOliver).

Dear lord, please just put this show out of its misery already. It's been on since 2003, is on DVD and is a hit in syndication - what more do they want??

These additional episodes will be almost a sure sell into syndication. As long as they can get the new character cheaply with Alan's mom, son, girlfriend and ex-wife out and Berta seen less the show will draw enough ratings to be profitable or at worst break-even and syndication will still be all profit. For CBS it beats risking a shot at an unknown entity.

Hmmmm...I still think they should let the show out of its misery, but that's just me!!!

I agree it probably should have ended with Charlie leaving. I was just pointing out that many people in decision making roles have too much money to gain until ratings finally tank or the lead actors decide to depart.

If they had to give Charlie Harper a long-lost child, wouldn't it have made more sense for it to be a son, given the title of the show?

If there's too much "shark jumping" in Two and a Half Men, I hope this show's ratings plummet during the upcoming 11th season.

Chuck Lorre: "Two and a Half Men" Will Have Less Testosterone in Season 11
7/29/2013
by Lesley Goldberg

CBS' "Two and a Half Men" may be losing the "half man" of its title when star Angus T. Jones reduces his role but that's not all that will be different when season 11 of the Chuck Lorre comedy returns in the fall.

As the comedy looks to revamp following Jones' decision to focus on attending college, the comedy is currently searching for a new female lead to play Charlie's (Charlie Sheen) long-lost daughter.

The character, Jenny, is described as Charlie's illegitimate daughter, who according to a casting breakdown, is 21-year-old who uses her hotness when she needs to. She enjoys being in control and likes everything that her father did -- including women -- and arrives in L.A. from New York in a bid to jumpstart her showbiz career.

Speaking to reporters Monday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, where he was there to support his upcoming Anna Faris comedy Mom, Lorre said the addition of a lesbian character will change one major aspect of "Men".

"I think it would be great have that voice on the show from a different perspective," he said. "The show has had enough testosterone to last a lifetime."

While casting is under way to fill the role, Lorre said the addition has allowed the writers to create a character who can stand toe-to-toe with "Men's" stars.

"Part of the fun in this has been creating a character that is equal to the task of stepping on the stage with Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. That's a big job," he said, noting the role is being flushed out first before it's cast.

"The idea of the character brings a healthy amount of decadence, which is always fun on Two and a Half Men."

Lorre stressed that there were no announcements coming -- yet -- for an actress to fill the role, he did seem open to one name to play Jenny's mother, who is unhappy with her daughter heading West.

"I haven't given it any thought. I guess she's available, huh?" he said of the idea of casting ousted "Anger Management" star Selma Blair. "She's a good actor."

CBS renewed "Men" in April for an 11th season, with Jones' role reduced to a recurring status as the 19-year-old attends college -- something that Lorre champions as the young actor has spent more time on a TV set than school.

"It's really commendable that he wants to make that the next part of his life," Lorre said, acknowledging Jones' controversial remarks aimed at the show that made him a star. "He misstepped last year and it's just not fair to judge him on that. I certainly hope he comes back from time to time. But for now he's embarking on a new life."

Ultimately, Lorre is optimistic that Jones will return for season 11 in some capacity.

It's starting to sound like what My Three Sons did toward the end of its very long run - with Dodie (Dawn Lyn).

"Two and a Half Men": Amber Tamblyn to Play Charlie's Daughter
8/7/2013
by Lesley Goldberg, Lacey Rose

CBS' "Two and a Half Men" has found Charlie Harper's long-lost

"House" alum Amber Tamblyn has been tapped to join the Chuck Lorre comedy as a recurring guest star for season 11, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The "Joan of Arcadia" star will play Jenny, the illegitimate lesbian daughter of Charlie (Charlie Sheen), who moves to L.A. to pursue acting and connect with what's left of her family. She likes everything her dad liked -- including women.

Tamblyn will recur in at least five episodes of the CBS comedy, with an option to become a series regular.

First Look At Amber Tamblyn on "Two and a Half Men" [Exclusive]
by Kelly Woo

Charlie Sheen may be long gone from "Two and a Half Men", but his spirit will still live on this season in the form of Charlie Harper's long-lost daughter Jenny, played by Amber Tamblyn.

In these exclusive first look images, the sassy and self-assured Jenny meets her Uncle Alan (Jon Cryer). And much like her character, Tamblyn's first meeting with Cryer was an audacious one.

"I told Jon Cryer to go 'F' himself in the audition in front of [creator] Chuck Lorre," Tamblyn said. "True story." An interesting tactic!

Jenny, like her father before her, loves women — she's a flirtatious lesbian who wants to break into the acting biz.

"There's definitely a lot of Charlie Harper in the character I'm playing," Tamblyn noted. "She's the modern gay Katharine Hepburn with a sailor's mouth. Her liver is its own superhero."

As of now, the former "House" star is signed up for five episodes, with the option for more. So far, it's been a great experience for Tamblyn.

"Hands down one of the best experiences of my 20 year career," she raved. "The cast has been incredibly kind and supportive in guiding me through such unfamiliar steps. I've never done a sitcom before, I come mostly from dramatic roles, so there has been a large learning curve for me."

"But everyone, and I mean everyone — from writers to camera operators to wardrobe — have made me feel like a million bucks."

Maybe the spirit of Sheen doesn't live on anymore, then.

Season 11 of "Two and a Half Men" premieres Thursday, 9/26 at 9:30 PM on CBS.

Well, I wanted the show to have a 12th season so there would be enough episodes to air the Ashton Kutcher period separately (much like All in the family and Archie Bunker's Place) and with this new storyline...it looks like my hopes may be dead after this season because they might just cancel it. LOL.

"Two and a Half Men" Scoop: How Charlie's Lesbian Daughter "Brings Debauchery Back" for Season 11
by James Hibberd
Sep 16, 2013

Charlie Harper’s lesbian daughter is going to shake-up the beach house. "Two and a Half Men" showrunner tells Entertainment Weekly that the new character being introduced this fall played by Amber Tamblyn is going to be just like her dad.

“We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if she was just like her father,’” showrunner Jim Patterson.

“She’s a fun, hard-partying girl who loves everything her father did — including women — and has the same kind of confidence her father had. It brings the debauchery back to the show from when Charlie [Sheen] was on it. She’s going to turn their lives upside down a little bit.”

Patterson says the character will be bringing home women to the house, which will obviously distract Alan (Jon Cryer) and Walden (Ashton Kutcher).

Asked if her character will be used to explore any gay rights issues on the show, he says, “She’s proud of who she is and completely confident in who she is. She’s also looking to have fun. She’s a 25 and not looking to settle down in any way.”

Also: With Alan and Lyndsey (Courtney Thorne-Smith) now broken up, Alan will be single at the same time as Walden for the first time. So expect some awkward double dates — or possibly even triple dates, if Alan’s niece is on board.

Thorne-Smith, by the way, will still be around this season, though now Alan will have to get used to being her ex-bf.

Tamblyn is effectively replacing “half man” Angus T. Jones, who is going “off to college” after his much-publicized criticism of the hit sitcom. Though Patterson says the door is open for him to make an appearance, it doesn’t sound like any return spots are currently planned.

“We hope he’ll come back and do something.”

Patterson says to also expect “a lot more” Holland Taylor this season, with comedy director legend Carl Reiner reprising his role as her boyfriend.

“He’s 91-and-a-half and he’s as funny as ever,” Patterson says.

The show is still working out what exactly to do with the opening credits. Jones won’t be in them and Tamblyn is currently contracted as a guest star — not a series regular — though Patterson seemed to hint that might change.

The rough-draft plan is to launch the season with a shortened version of the credits, then perhaps do something different later on down the road if Tamblyn comes on board full time.

“Amber is amazing,” he says. “We saw a ton of girl sand she blew us away. This is the first time she’s done a sitcom role and it’s like she’s done it her whole life.”
