Bill Pertwee,who played the Air Raid Warden Hodges in the British television sitcom Dad's Army has died at his home in Surrey near London,aged 86. The show ran for nine series between 1968 and 1977 and was an attempt to make comedy out of the war years,though some may say it looked back on those times with rose tinted spectacles.
