OMM: We Got "New Normal" Cancelled
One Million Moms Leader Monica Cole, via email
Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Dear Joe,

Our persistence has paid off once again! "The New Normal" got the axe by NBC after the show’s first and only season! Another program we have worked to end, "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23", has also been canceled and will no longer air on ABC.

A number of other shows we have taken action on are set to be pulled, including "The Cleveland Show", "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and "Green Lantern: The Animated Series".

We are still waiting for a decision on a few of the other programs we have voiced our concerns over. Many of those shows have a high probability of not being renewed, including "The Biggest Loser", "American Idol" and "Dancing With the Stars".

These 'in limbo' programs that we have spoken out on are on the verge of ending because the networks have not announced a pickup yet. One Million Moms continues to fight for the moral values that have served our country so well for so long. We do so without apology.

They don't like Jillian cursing on 'The Biggest Loser.'

I didn't see any info on 'American Idol' and 'Dancing With The Stars' on their website. Weird choices.

Fox made the decision not to produce new episodes of The Cleveland Show over year ago but it's not even "officially" cancelled. They're taking credit for getting a bunch of low rated shows cancelled to get more donations from their one hundred (not one-million) members

Seriously American Idol and Dancing with the Stars?? What do they want to put on there instead? Leave it to Beaver? Lassie?

Not a bad Idea. We need MORE SCRIPTED Family Friendly TV Shows. Get rid of all the Game, Reality, News and Talk Shows.

I agree with you Regulus but I dont understand about AI or Dancing with the Stars. I'll admit I dont watch the shows but I never thought they were trashy.

I have Leave it to Beaver on DVD. I also have an "Unofficial Release" of all but two episodes of Lassie (Thank You y23k joker :D ) I don't like using this method of acquiring series I desire to watch, but there's that age old adage, if there's a product a person desires, and whoever is in charge of that product refuses to provide it. (In this case Dreamworks/Classicmedia) There is no choice for the person who wants it to get it but to get it from "somewhere else" :angryfire

American Idol is considerably racier than it used to be. Idol started with a TV-G rating, then went to TV-PG, and now it's TV-14.

And it's Nielson Ratings have done nothing but gone down, Down, Down !

I want to level with you. There was a time. 30 or so years ago, when I wanted to see what's all the fuss about "R" rated movies. (At this time I was still too young to see these kinds of movies (What Kid growing up DIDN'T Want to see these kinds of movies?) I then grew up and I got to see "What was the fuss all about"? Now that I'm older (and wiser), I now prefer to see "G" and 'PG" Movies over all the other kinds of Movies. As for the other kinds of movies, its a case of "Been There, Done That". With that behind me, now I can merrily go about my way. :D

There is no mystery for kids anymore though. They have seen way more on TV or online than I had by the time I was old enough to go to a "R" movie. These groups are entitled to their opinion and if that sways advertisers that is the advertiser's business to decide. The big issue is those shows (except like AI) did not draw ratings from the general population to justify the network keeping them. If they had they'd still be around. I want TV decided by the free market, let the viewers decide what airs. The networks are much more concerned with ratings and the money a show makes. I think TV is hastening their own demise with endless pop up ads, too many commercials, and shorter programs to the point where it is tough to develop a decent plot in around 20-22 minutes and have a decent resolution.

some people still want them cancelled though - they are just too "racy"

if these people are against "immoral" and racier shows they can change the channel - that is precisely why we have the TV ratings systems and V-chips and all of that other nonsense; people have a right to watch what they want to, no matter how much someone else doesn't like it.

- and for the record I would love to see all of those trashy reality shows, especially American Idol and Dancing with the "Stars" immediately cancelled.

They wanna get American Idol and Dancing With The Stars cancelled?? Don't they ever watch The Kardashians? They give each other bikini waxes. They also said that drinking pineapple juice will make your vagina and pee smell good! They actually tried it and then smelled each other's pee. If anything's disgusting, that is!!!!!!!
BTW, I'm glad The New Normal got cancelled.

I guess some people are okay with censorship.

None of these shows being on should affect you because you're not being forced to watch them. If you are being bothered by shows you don't have to watch, it might be time to reevaluate your priorities.

I see it coming too. Pay-TV is losing subscribers (The only way they've been able to say they're making more money than ever before is due to Higher subscription prices and increased advertising - a formula that's doomed to eventually crash), and Broadcast Networks have seen their viewer numbers head south as well. People are turning to streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu, and rental kiosks such as Redbox. As well as getting their programming from mother sources, Including DVDs. It's only a matter of time.

There isn't any censorship. If those shows were drawing ratings and turning profit they'd still be on, or another network would pick them up. Let's face it, how bad do you have to be doing for NBC to cancel a show?

Believe me, these delusional religious nuts aren't responsible for anything. The shows they boycotted were canceled because of low ratings and not content. The New Normal, 666 Park Avenue, GCB and any show they try to prevent everyone else from seeing would have probably fared better on cable where there's more leeway for mature subject matters.

That said, I'd have no problem with DWTS, AI and Biggest Loser thrown off the airwaves. Enough of the reality competition crap.

Hey Regulus. You mentioned about getting rid of game shows. Honestly, I'd rather have game shows on. I think you could learn a lot and there fun. I'd rather watch a game show(Millionaire, Password etc.) over a scripted family comedy, although thats just me.

OMM should get this...A Life!

TV shows crap and if you hate it...don't watch it! It's that simple.

This is coming from a guy who LOVED "The Cleveland Show" and I don't want to see that show get cancelled...yet!

If OMM wants to bitch about a show...bitch about "The Simpsons"!

I don't think the boycott had anything to do with those shows being canceled, it was because of the low ratings. Two Broke Girls and Two And A Half Men are way more explicit in their content and they are still being shown. Plus they're getting good ratings. People shouldn't watch if they're offended by a program, that's why we have free choice.

A Boycott is the only item left to us. Many of us have grown tired of what the entertainment industry has decided to offer us. To many fuddy duddys care about one thing and one thing only, their all-mighty stock dividend. Heaven forbid their these dividends don't have at least seven figures in them. Instead of worshiping the All-Mighty God they worship the all-mighty dollar. These people deserve one thing and one thing only. The depths of Gehenna. May God have mercy on their souls. Socialism is not the answer, neither is Capitalism. BOTH ARE WRONG! There HAS to be ANOTHER SYSTEM, And Heaven only knows what that system is.

OMM is very weird in what they pick and choose to boycott. Of course, any show that portrays homosexuality in a positive light or spoofs/mocks Christians or deals with Satan is top on their list. I don't think I've ever seen them go after the more explicit comedies featuring straight people, like the ones you mentioned.

I'm kinda glad the New Normal got canned as well. I really didn't care much about the show. That's just me, though.

Now, as far as the pee and pineapple juice goes, that is just disgusting to hear while one is eating. LOL. I understand that they wanted to see if the method would work so I can't be mad about that but that they'd say that on national tv was just a little too much for me. DANG!!!

OMM is no different in regards to shows that "spoofs/mocks Christians" than the ADL, GLAAD, or the NAACP is about a show that does the same to their constituency. All these groups do this, the last time I saw the NAACP complain about a show it was "Cops" and everyone and his dog knew that Fox Network was phasing it out due to sports. They just wanted to claim some accomplishment for something that had already been long decided with Fox. It really is no different.
