The prosecutor in the Jodi Arias murder trial has called into question psychotherapist Alyce LaViolette's creditability because the only person she interviewed to determine whether Arias suffered domestic abuse was Arias.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez has spent the last week exchanging verbal jabs with LaViolette, who claims Arias was a victim of abuse at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander. At one point during Tuesday's war of words, LaViolette told Martinez he needed to "take a time out."

Arias, 32, has admitted to killing Alexander, 30, after lying for nearly two years about it, but insists she killed him in self-defense. She could face the death penalty if convicted.

(AP) PHOENIX - The prosecutor in Jodi Arias' murder trial is calling rebuttal witnesses aimed at discrediting the defense.

Three witnesses took the stand by late morning Tuesday as the prosecutor works to show juror Arias is lying. A colleague of the victim testified the couple appeared affectionate together. Arias says her one-time boyfriend Travis Alexander shunned her in public, only showing affection privately.

PHOENIX -

It was a big day in the Jodi Arias trial. Not only did the state rest its case, but another juror was dismissed and Jodi spent much of the morning sobbing during testimony.

And then there were 15. Juror #8 was dismissed from the jury -- the third juror to leave the panel in the nearly four-month old trial.

"Ladies and gentleman the court has excused juror number eight from further participation in this case," said Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens.

There was no reason given. His chair was empty and he was not in court. We're trying to find out more about him.

For the final day of testimony, prosecutor Juan Martinez called his last rebuttal witness to the stand -- the medical examiner.

Arias cried in court while Dr. Kevin Horn testified.

Horn performed the autopsy on Travis Alexander. He claims the gun shot injury through Travis' brain would have rendered him unconscious in a second or two -- meaning Travis wouldn't have been able to fight back against Jodi had he been shot first.

And because there are defensive knife wounds on his hands, this suggests first Jodi stabbed Travis, then slashed his throat when he was down on his hands and knees, then shot him in the head.

"Again because of the injury to the brain, the information processing part of the brain would have rendered him unable to raise his hands to offer any sort of purposeful action or to verbalize anything," Horn explained.

I have a feeling that this psycho bitch is going to get convicted. There is just TOO much evidence against her. What I find really interesting is that Jodi's grandpa reported his gun stolen just days before Jodi killed Travis. Then there's the matter with the gas cans. It's all premeditation. She is a sick woman. She's just as sick as Casey Anthony. There was no justice with that bitch. But the jury out in Arizona seems to have their wits about them. Let's hope this tramp either gets life in prison w/o parole or death.

BTW, this trial does seem to be going on forever. Part of the reason is that the jury is allowed to ask questions in Arizona.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez is doing a fabulous job in my opinion.

The closing arguments in the Jodi Arias death row murder trial got off to an explosive start as prosecutor Juan Martinez took center stage and delivered a fiery performance.

Martinez paced and repeatedly raised his voice as he reminded the jury that it was Jodi who manipulated and abused victim Travis Alexander, not the other way around. “This individual, the defendant, killed Travis Alexander,” he began, accusing the defendant of lying since the trial began on January 2nd.

“Even after stabbing him over and over again, even after taking a gun and shooting him in the face, she will not let him rest in peace,” Martinez said of the brutal attack that killed Travis on June 4, 2008..

PHOENIX (AP) — Jury deliberations have begun in the trial of Jodi Arias, who is charged in the stabbing and shooting death of her one-time boyfriend in Arizona.

Jurors got the case Friday after hearing closing arguments from both sides.

Arias is accused of premeditated, first-degree murder in the June 2008 killing of Travis Alexander in his suburban Phoenix home.

Arias initially denied involvement, then blamed the attack on masked intruders. Two years after her arrest, she said it was self-defense.

Testimony began in early January and has been ongoing for nearly four months.

The trial has been a made-for-the-tabloids drama, garnering daily coverage by the cable news networks, with tales of lurid sex, lies and death, nude photos and accounts of a salacious relationship that ended in a bloody killing.

After two days of deliberations, there's no verdict yet, squashing predictions that this case would be a slam dunk.

PHOENIX (AP) — After four months, verdict day at the Jodi Arias trial brought a crowd to the courthouse to find out the jury's decision. Dozens of people lined up daily to try to get a seat in the courtroom, and others stood or sat outside. After it was announced Wednesday that a verdict had been reached, the crowd grew larger. Some chanted "Justice for Travis." As it drew closer to 1:30 p.m. and the verdict, people in the crowd urged others to "shhhh." At 1:49 p.m., the verdict came — guilty of first-degree murder. Some cheered and hugged, while others jumped and danced. People exchanged high-fives. The sounds of whistles and chants of "USA, USA, USA" filled the air. As for the crowds, Chris Hughes, a friend of victim Travis Alexander said, "Travis was grandiose so it's interesting how this played out...it is a bit of a circus." And the circus may not be over. Die-hard trial watchers may return to the courthouse when the jury reconvenes at 1 p.m. Thursday for the "aggravation phase."

Jodi Arias Sentencing Postponed

Will Jodi Arias get the death sentence she seems to hope for? Arias, who was convicted of first-degree murder on Wednesday, won't be sentenced until next week. The jury was supposed to decide Thursday whether she is eligible for the death penalty for killing her boyfriend in 2008, but have postponed the decision until Wednesday. After her guilty verdict was read, Arias told a local television station that she would "prefer to die sooner than later."

During the sentencing phase, the jury will deliberate a third time on whether Arias will receive the death penalty.

PHOENIX – Jodi Arias begged jurors Tuesday to give her life in prison, saying she "lacked perspective" when she told a local reporter in an interview that she preferred execution to spending the rest of her days in jail.

Standing confidently but at times her voice breaking, Arias told the same eight men and four women who found her guilty of first-degree murder that she planned to use her time in prison to bring about positive changes, including donating her hair to be made into wigs for cancer victims, helping establish prison recycling programs and designing T-shirts that would raise money for victims of domestic abuse.

She also said she could run book clubs and teach classes to prisoners to "stimulate conversations of a higher nature."

Arias became emotional as she played a slideshow of pictures from her photo album for the jury. The images included family portraits, pictures of her and friends and boyfriends and young relatives she has met only from behind bars.

Arias concluded her statement by pleading that jurors not give her the death penalty for the sake of her family.

"I'm asking you to please, please don't do that to them. I've already hurt them so badly, along with so many other people," she said. "I want everyone's healing to begin, and I want everyone's pain to stop."

It could happen. It's happened before with this prosecutor Juan Martinez. A few years ago, he prosecuted a woman named Wendi Andriano who was also a mother. He got a guilty conviction and she was sentenced to death. She bludgeoned her terminally ill husband. So if Juan could get her a death sentence, I'm sure he could get one for Jodi Arias. And no, there are no redeeming qualities to Jodi Arias. I hope she does get the death penalty. If she got life in prison, she could adapt. Psychopaths could adapt to anything.

I'm trying to stay away from cases like this, honestly.

Arias was indeed, to all appearances, an awful, awful person. I think she's mentally ill personally, though I do not think that absolves her of her crime (it might help to explain it though). I just get worn out by the depression and sadness and anger that's always associated with these things. They're all hyped to death by the media (why do most of them involve an attractive young woman, by the way? Something tells me that if the defendant was an overweight 59 year old truck driver and the victim were his equally overweight and elderly wife, there wouldn't be nearly as much interest).

I watched the O.J. trial for a year and came to the conclusion that nearly everyone in Hollywood is a vain, self serving egomaniac, and that the legal "profession" is just as bad.

'No thanks' to anymore of these.

I would submit that it is VASTLY easier to sit at a computer and proclaim that you would definitely put a woman being to death than to actually be tasked with doing it

I hate it when people denigrate juries because those people have a terrible and very important job to do. They are privy to facts that the public is not, they endure much personal hardship to do their duty and I'm sure the vast majority take their job very seriously.

What all these court shows have effectively done is to make armchair jurors out of the whole country, as well as make criminal proceedings into entertainment, which is really unhealthy IMO.

Jodi Arias Murder Conviction: Lifetime Movie Cast Was Glued to Verdict, Actor Playing Travis Alexander "Felt Validated"

Nancy Grace wasn't the only one hanging on every word when Jodi Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder this week.

"Everyone watched it, we had a TV on the set and we stopped filming," Arturio Interian, VP of Original Movies for Lifetime Entertainment Services, which has been developing The Jodi Arias Story since March 2012, exclusively tells E! News.

"It was a very quiet moment. It's a very real and painful story, and we can't forget that a young man was needlessly killed and Jodi threw her life away too. Tania Raymonde, the actress who is playing Jodi, was stunned."

The 25-year-old Switched at Birth star also witnessed, right then and there, her role going from "murder suspect Jodi Arias" to "convicted murderer Jodi Arias."

"It was surreal on the set when the verdict came down," Interian continued. "I have done a lot of true-crime work, but this is the first time I have been filming when this has happened."

Lifetime's true-crime credits, to name just a couple, include Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy and Drew Peterson: Untouchable.

Three jurors from the Jodi Arias trial said the sentencing phase was "absolutely awful" after they were unable agree on whether the woman they had found guilty of first-degree murder should get the death penalty or life in prison.

"We can't come to a decision, and it was gut-wrenching. It was absolutely awful," said Diane Schwartz, a retired 911 operator, who for the duration of the five month trial was known as Juror No. 6.

READ MORE: 9 Most Shocking Moments of the Jodi Arias Trial

The jury took a short time to convict Arias of first-degree murder in the 2008 shooting and stabbing death of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, but when it came to the sentencing phase, they were split.

Schwartz, along with fellow jurors Kevin Spellman and Marilou Allen-Coogan, spoke exclusively with ABC News about the grave responsibility that they said ended with a deadlock of eight jurors voting in favor of the death penalty and four supporting life in prison for Arias.

All three said they favored giving Arias the death penalty, however, determining a sentence of life or death for the 32-year-old was their most difficult decision.

"It was a very trying experience," said Spellman, a banker who was known as Juror No. 13. "How do you weigh a person's life?"

"For me, it was the brutality and then the way that he was treated after death and shoved in a shower and left," Allen-Coogan added. "That's pretty brutal."

i think the problem is that the judgement and sentencing part of the system is flawed in the respect that after months of asking a jury to be impartial, logical and make their decision relying solely on their interpretation of the facts and evidence and how it was presented, all of a sudden you are asking them to turn around and make a completely subjective judgement call; judges (or some level of justice) needs to set hard, easily identifiable guidelines for what determines the appropriate sentencing in a given case.

in this case, the guilty had clearly planned out the crime in a premeditated manner, the method in which the murder was carried out was particularly gruesome and vindictive, and clearly their would be no chance of rehabilitating her or her ever being a productive member of society (even the in-prison society).

The gordian knot here is that even IF she was determined to be someone who could benefit society down the road, the very heinousness of the crime would more than likely stop her from being paroled. Leslie Van Houten has done pretty much everything and beyond when it comes to rehabilitation but because she helped kill Rosemary La Bianca 44 years ago in that awful, awful way, she'll NEVER get out. I think at this point she's even stopped putting her name in for parole.

Jodi Arias’ attorneys were denied the chance to have the death penalty taken off the table in Arias’ murder trial, as the Arizona Supreme Court rejected their petition for an appeal.

Arias was convicted of murdering her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, and is facing the possibility of the death penalty. The jury that found her guilty of premeditated murder was split over whether to sentence Arias to death. The prosecutor now must decide whether to find a new jury to decide Arias’ punishment.

During the trial, however, Arias’ attorneys appealed to Arizona’s highest court to reconsider whether Arias should face the death penalty. They claimed that the prosecution’s testimony about the way Alexander died, and how cruel it was, was inconsistent.

“Self defense” is a term Jodi Arias seems to be very familiar with – as RadarOnline.com has learned that the notorious murder defendant has used the excuse to try and wriggle out of even more trouble that she’s gotten into from behind bars since brutally butchering Travis Alexander.

According to a discipline report obtained by HLN, the 32-year-old femme fatale was embroiled in a fight with her cell mate at the Estrella Jail in Phoenix, Arizona, and when the pair was eventually separated and questioned over the incident, Jodi claimed she was acting in self defense and simply protecting herself from the aggressor.

During the altercation the fellow inmate pushed Jodi against a wall and then kicked her, according to prison records.

The story sounds eerily similar to Jodi’s repeated claims of abuse at the hands of both former boyfriend Travis and her parents, Sandy and William Arias, which she has detailed extensively – and often tearfully – on the stand during her ongoing testimony.

Also on the rap sheet built up during the four-and-a-half years that she has been awaiting trial are bizarre violations of prison policy such as hiding pens under her sink in May 2009, possessing 19 unauthorized pictures in January 2010, disobeying her instructor, possessing unauthorized creams – including anti-itch, anti-fungal and acne lotion – and the discovery of even more pens in shampoo bottles and under her bunk.
