View Full Version : In your opinion, what's the best series and spinoff of all time?
mets82 04-03-2013, 04:45 PM What do you think? I would put Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley near the top as well as All in the Family and The Jeffersons.
I would put Friends and Joey near the bottom. Growing Pains and Just the 10 of Us would have been higher if Just the 10 of Us was on a little longer.
icecream 04-03-2013, 05:37 PM I would put Cheers and Frasier at the top, followed by Andy Griffith/Gomer Pyle and Different Strokes/Facts of Life. Benson is my favorite overall spinoff but I don't like Soap.
*ROGER* 04-03-2013, 08:41 PM All in the Family/The Jeffersons
Happy Days/Laverne & Shirley
Three's Company/The Ropers
Regulus 04-03-2013, 09:12 PM Star Trek
Star Trek: The Animated Series
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: Enterprise
Coming in a CLOSE Second:
The Six Million Dollar Man
The Bionic Woman
icecream 04-03-2013, 10:13 PM As for Happy Days, I consider Mork & Mindy to be a lot better spin-off than Laverne & Shirley.
Regulus 04-03-2013, 10:37 PM Touched by an Angel - Promised Land
BJ and the Bear - The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo
Zane Grey Theatre - This Anthology Series Beget:
Black Saddle
Johnny Ringo
The Rifleman - Beget its own spinoff - Law of the Plainsmen
Stagecoach West
The Westerner
Five Spinoffs, one of which had its own spinoff. Has any series topped this? :D
benjamoon 04-03-2013, 11:18 PM In Terms of the Best Combo...
1. Cheers/Frasier
2. Mary Tyler Moore/Rhoda
3. Happy Days/Laverne & Shirley
Zoneboy 04-04-2013, 12:15 AM Zane Grey Theatre - This Anthology Series Beget:
Stagecoach West
Stagecoach West was produced by Dick Powell's Four Star Productions but it wasn't a spinoff from Zane Grey Theatre.
You did forget one spinoff from ZGT which was Trackdown and that series spun-off Wanted: Dead or Alive making it one of the first spinoffs of a spinoff. It may have been the very first but I'm not certain.
TVFactFan 04-04-2013, 12:24 AM Jeffersons
Maude
Buffyboy323 04-04-2013, 01:59 AM Jeffersons
Maude
Did the characters on these two shows share a storyline, ever?
Buffyboy323 04-04-2013, 02:13 AM 2. Mary Tyler Moore/Rhoda
3. Happy Days/Laverne & Shirley
I'm not a fan of Happy Days, but like Laverne & Shirley a lot. I'm looking forward to watching Mary Tyler Moore all the way through for the first time, eventually.
All In The Family - Maude
All In The Family - The Jeffersons
Cheers - Frasier
Perfect Strangers - Family Matters
Star Trek: TNG - Star Trek: DS9
Beverly Hills, 90210 - Melrose Place
Law & Order - Law & Order : SVU
Arguably, Frasier was the most successful spinoff of all time.
Schmoopie 04-04-2013, 02:15 AM I'm sure that it surprises no one that my answer to this is Frasier. Made all the more wonderful by David Hyde Pierce as Dr. Niles Crane!
comedyfreak 04-04-2013, 08:22 AM All In The Family/Maude/The Jeffersons
Happy Days/Laverne & Shirley
While I never got into Cheers I thought Frasier had one of the best supporting casts ever.

My sources differ, but thanks for the info. I just ordered Trackdown and Wanted Dead or Alive from "traders" on sell.com

Not all sources are reliable so you may very well be right.
Mr. Television 04-04-2013, 11:41 AM Dallas/Knots Landing

MacLeaper 04-04-2013, 11:51 AM The best series and spinoff of all time?........... I don't know about that, but I do know some TV shows that I like that had spinoffs that are also great. (In no particular order).
Happy Days: Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi, Blansky's Beauties maybe Out of This World [depending on how you count it], Fonz and The Happy Days Gang, and Laverne & Shirley in The Army [later known as Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour]

Sanford and Son: Sanford, Sanford Arms, Grady
What's Happening?: What's Happening Now? [really a continuation of What's Happening?]
Soap: Benson [I like the theme songs for both, but I basically like Benson and don't really like Soap.]
Who's The Boss?: Charmed Lives, Living Dolls
All in The Family: Gloria, Archie Bunker's Place [really a continuation of AITF] and The Jeffersons: Checking In and Maude: Good Times

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (1969-1970 cartoon): The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972-1973), The Scooby-Doo Show (1976-1978) [aired as segments on The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour (1976), Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics (1977) Scooby's All-Stars (1978)], Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (1979-1980), The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show (1980-1981), The Scooby & Scrappy-Doo/Puppy Hour (1982), The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show (1983), The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries (1984), The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (1985), A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988-1991), What's New, Scooby-Doo? (2002-2005), Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get A Clue! (2006-2008), Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (2010-2013)
Spider-Man (1981-1982): Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends (1981-1983)
Super Friends (1973-1974 cartoon) [This series had numerous formats- The All-New Super Friends Hour (1977-1978), All-New Super Friends/Challenge of the Super Friends (1978-1979), The World's Greatest Super Friends (1979-1980), Super Friends (1980-1982), The Best of the Super Friends (1982-1983 - reruns), Super Friends- "The Lost Episodes" (1983-1984- only 3 aired at this time, amongst reruns; the rest aired in 1995 as part of the Superman/Batman Adventures show package), Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show (1984-1985), and The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians (1985-1986)]: The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show (1979-1981), Batman (mid-1980s planned cartoon- a pilot called "The Fear" was written and wound up airing as an episode of The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians), The New Teen Titans (a cartoon was planned in 1983, but never happened- however, an anti-drug commercial was aired using the planned animations of the characters), Superman (1988 Ruby-Spears series), DC Super Friends (Fisher-Price toyline released in the late 2000s that also had a direct-to-video original animation called "The Joker's Playhouse" (2010) to tie in with the toys.)

Samme 05-30-2019, 10:04 AM Carol Burnett Show/Mama's Family didn't cross my mind. That's a good choice.
OH Nuts! 05-30-2019, 11:21 PM All In The Family & spin-off The Jeffersons
treky 05-31-2019, 01:32 AM also MAUDE/GOOD TIMES
now before anyone says anything to start the debate again about whether or not GOOD TIMES is a spinoff of MAUDE (although I'm SURE this post will start the debate again) let me just say that Norman Lear says it is, so that's good enough for me.
