View Full Version : How Much Soda Pop Do You Drink? Retro4Life 02-08-2013, 09:15 PM Curious how much soda we all drink. Zoneboy 02-08-2013, 09:20 PM I drink an average of 15-20 cans of diet soda per-day. Family Ties Forever! 02-08-2013, 09:25 PM I try to stick to 1 to 2 a day. I chose once a day for the poll. *ROGER* 02-08-2013, 09:28 PM I drink about 3 cans of soda per day. I only will drink the soda that is made with all natural stevia and 100% natural ingredients. It's called Zevia. Retro4Life 02-08-2013, 09:33 PM I love soda, but I don't drink it much anymore, maybe a couple bottles a month, and if I go to a movie I will partake as well. Retro4Life 02-08-2013, 09:43 PM I drink about 3 cans of soda per day. I only will drink the soda that is made with all natural stevia and 100% natural ingredients. It's called Zevia. Do you mean 15-20 cans per week ? JamesG 02-08-2013, 10:08 PM I used to drink a lot of it, mainly Coca-Cola, when I was younger. I decided to stop all soda around 2-years ago, and haven't had any since. tiredmike59 02-08-2013, 10:19 PM I am guessing some of you suffered with tooth rot, kidney stones or other gut issues if you drink a lot of soda. I only drink a couple cans a day but always rinse my mouth with water when I'm done. I got that advice from a Dentist's assistant years ago. TVFactFan 02-08-2013, 11:17 PM The only soda I drink is Mountain Dew and that's once or twice a month OH Nuts! 02-08-2013, 11:26 PM I drink about 3 cans of soda per day. It has the most caffeine of all sodas. robyrob 02-09-2013, 02:27 AM i might have one or two cans a month, usually Dr Pepper or ginger-ale - i like Canada Dry and Vernor's *ROGER* 02-09-2013, 03:07 AM Sounds interesting. Where can you buy it in NYC? I've gotten it when I'm out on Long Island at the King Kullen. I always stock up on it when I go out there. I don't know where you can get it other than King Kullen. *ROGER* 02-09-2013, 03:08 AM Re soda in general, I rarely drink it - maybe two cans a week - and all diet soda of course (I'm partial to Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper) No good. It began making my stomach ache, a lot...and as was mentioned, it's pretty horrible for your teeth, too. I have actually read and heard that diet soda is worse for you than regular, because it contains aspartame, which is terrible, and some preservatives, one of which can actually 'shut off' your DNA. There's tons of research that links soda use to elevated cancer risks, too. Not trying to 'preach' to anyone, because my diet is FAR from perfect. Soda just scares me anymore. Zoneboy 02-09-2013, 11:41 AM Do you mean 15-20 cans per week ? Nope, per-day. tiredmike59 02-09-2013, 12:04 PM Nope, per-day. Do you scrap cans ? tiredmike59 02-09-2013, 12:32 PM Anyone remember when soda came in glass bottles ? It seemed to taste a lot better then. I thought maybe because they used real sugar but I bought a case of this retro pepsi a couple of years ago that was made with sugar instead of corn syrup but it was in cans and I couldn't tell the difference. I wish they would go back to putting it in glass bottles. ZeldaGilroy 02-09-2013, 12:44 PM I usually drink one can a day, sometimes 2 on the weekends. I cannot handle diet pop at all. Anytime I try switching to diet I end up having kidney problems. Regular pop doesn't have a noticeable effect, although I know it isn't good for me either. My favorite is Dr Pepper or Cherry Coke. shotzette 02-09-2013, 12:45 PM Far too much at 4-5 cans per day! I have diabetes which means I have to stick to diet sodas. Cherry Coke Zero, Diet Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper 10, and Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper are my libations of choice. I know it's not good for me, but since I'm not a huge coffee or tea person, I have to get the caffeine some how. Zoneboy 02-09-2013, 12:47 PM Do you scrap cans ? I make about 6 trips to the recyclers each year. gilligan fanatic 02-09-2013, 01:43 PM I went with once a day, but it is really more like every other day for me. I used to drink a lot more soda. About the only time I'll have one is with popcorn at a movie or on a special occasion at a restaurant. That's pretty much me in a nutshell. It IS really hard to imagine having a bucket of popcorn without a soda to wash it down. I feel the same way about pizza...water just doesn't cut it somehow. I got some wings at a restaurant one time and had soda with it and it was so hot I couldn't even see. The soda had made it hotter. My eyes were watering so much. The waitress gave me a big glass of water. lol Retro4Life 02-11-2013, 07:49 PM The only thing that's great with water is Buffalo Wings. Uses sugar instead of corn syrup. It also comes out around Passover in limited runs around highly Jewish populated areas. What's interesting is that this was how Coca-Cola was originally made. Zoneboy 02-11-2013, 08:49 PM Milk is better than water when it comes to spicy foods. Best trick I ever learned was to eat something cold following spicy foods rather than drinking something cold. cleverfun3000 02-11-2013, 08:49 PM Here in New York, the Mayor is seeing to it that people drastically decrease their soda intake. He passed a law (practically by himself) that limits the sizes of all sodas to 16 ounces maximum. He passed a law (practically by himself) that limits the sizes of all sodas to 16 ounces maximum. Yea totally stupid. It should be up to the person how much soda they drink. It's all politics anyway. He's trying to look good. Anybody can get two bottles instead of 1. Mr. Television 02-11-2013, 11:46 PM Milk is better than water when it comes to spicy foods. Yea milk is good too. It should be up to the person how much soda they drink. It's all politics anyway. He's trying to look good. Anybody can get two bottles instead of 1. Even though this decree of Mayor Bloomberg is VERY Nanny State I wasn't adamantly against it and I'll tell you why. I'm pretty certain the next Administration will rescind it. In the meantime it will make people think about what they drink. Sugary soft drinks, the phony juices, (and even regular fruit juices) are the very best fast track to obesity and diabetes. People think because there's lots of water in this junk it's water. IT ISN'T. It's basically tons and tons of sugar. Would you eat 9-12 teaspoons of sugar all at once? Well that's what you do when you drink a 12 oz can of soda or the other crap I mentioned. Multiply that by several times a day and you are taxing your body A LOT. And taking in over 500-1000 extra calories a day. I feel strongly about this because I see the effects all this had upon my health. I used to drink several cups of fruit juice, Hawaiin Punch and regular coke. Now I get to deal with mild diabetes. And anyone dealing with this condition will tell you IT'S NOT FUN. I just don't don't want to see anyone else get sick like me. All this being said though, the best means to get people to give this garbage up is through education - news broadcast, messages on billboards, buses, subways etc. (But like I said earlier I bet the ban gets shot down within a year) TVFactFan 02-12-2013, 07:56 PM I don't think someone should drink soda everyday, only on occasions RoryGilmore 02-14-2013, 05:21 PM Here in New York, the Mayor is seeing to it that people drastically decrease their soda intake. He passed a law (practically by himself) that limits the sizes of all sodas to 16 ounces maximum. 16 oz is still too much Coffeecup 02-14-2013, 07:44 PM I really don't see a problem with limited the sizes of drinks. If you want more just buy another bottle. I find when I do drink soda on rare occasions, 8 oz is plenty for me. . There other beverages that are better for you. Family Ties Forever! 02-14-2013, 11:12 PM link (http://www.mattfortexas.org/2013/02/12/texas-soda-tax-sits-flat-for-east-texas/#) Texas Soda Tax Sits Flat For East Texas February 12, 2013 By Jennifer Heathcock, CBS 19 News Posted: February 8, 2013; 10:45 pm Tyler (KYTX) – You’ve probably heard the debate about the tax increase on sugary drinks in New York. Now, a Texas law maker wants you to pay more. A representative in San Antonio proposed a one-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks in an effort to reduce obesity and other health problems. That means this can of coke, wouldn’t just be 99 cents at the gas station, it would cost you 12 extra cents to take a sip. “Two two liters a day. Easy,” says John Devaul, an avid soda drinker. For big time dr. Pepper drinker Devaul, the cost of his bottle of soda going up is not refreshing. “Start adding a dollar to that? You’re talking $3.50 a bottle. Talk about two a day, that’s $7 a day,” says Devaul. A San Antonio lawmaker has proposed a sugary-drink tax that would raise the cost a penny an ounce. If this were to pass, it would depend how much more you want to spend. A 24 ounce cup would cost 24 more cents to fill up. The representative says the money would go to kids education in the state. “I think it’s pointless. We get taxed for everything anyway. So I guess it wouldn’t make a difference. We’d still buy the coke,” says Brittany Kallon, who only reaches for a Coke occasionally. Kallon says it wouldn’t make a difference to her, for an occasional treat. “I think we should try to tax on politicians raising taxes,” says District 6 Representative Matt Schaefer. Schaefer says it’s not the state’s place. “We have all sorts of public awareness that’s already taking place about this issue. Raising taxes and starting a new program is not the answer,” says Schaefer. The bill calls for the measure to promote a healthier lifestyle. “We pay a lot of money for things we don’t need anyway, so what’s a coke?” says Kallon. “I don’t think would go down a whole lot because people like their sodas. I love my sodas,” says Devaul. Now the tax could add about two billion dollars to the states public education fund. And that’s just one of the things the law maker wants to fund with the money from your break-time drink. The people we spoke to today said it wouldn’t change a thing about their habits. They’ll have their Coke and a smile no matter the price. The same representative proposed a very similar bill in 2011. That one fizzled out before making any headway. Copyright 2013. Retro4Life 02-25-2013, 09:04 PM Wow, thanks for the great response to my question and poll! Really appreciate it, everyone. For those of you who drink multiple cans/bottles a day, why do you do this? About age 35 or so, I started having stomach issues and the doctor said to lay off the pop. I did, and it helped. I still drank one maybe once a week. Then I read up on how awful it is for you, sugar, carbonation, preservatives, acid (I also have acid reflux), and just pretty much never went back. Now, it's like you said, maybe one when I go to a movie, maybe one on a holiday or something, but that's about it. Congrats on kicking the habit, Sonny! :) |
