View Full Version : Dan frustrates me!!
selleckfan4ever 01-31-2013, 12:04 AM Hi all!Iam new to this board and I love it!I have just the reruns of Roseanne and look forward to the show.My venting is that Dan just cant seem to stay with 1 job before he wants to change to another job knowing that e had bills to pay and to help keep food in the house. It jsut seems like he went from 1 job to the next.I hated it wehn he wanted to do something but in my thinking he pretended that he had to be pursuaded to do it and then got mad when it didnt turn out like he had hoped!Any one else feel this way? Thanks:confused:
*ROGER* 01-31-2013, 01:01 AM Dan didn't think things through a lot when it came to working and having jobs. Even when he opened up his bike shop, that was a big flop. He had no foresight.

There was a episode when Becky said this to him
"The bike shop failed because you don't know how to run a business" LOL

That was CRUEL! Becky should have kept those thoughts to herself instead of making Dan feel worse than he already did. He didn't need some mean spirited little twerp to point out his failure of the bike shop. He knew he made a mistake. But instead of Becky showing some support and family loyalty, she throws a hissy fit because of how it all would affect MARK! I hated Becky in that episode.

Lecy Garonson sure was a great actress at being mean, annoying, bratty Becky. I liked the second Becky much better....(Sarah Chalke.) Sarah was more likeable IMO.

Becky #2 was too good looking to be a part of that family.

Roseanne wasn't any better at sticking with jobs. There was Wellman Plastics Factory, The Chicken Delight fast food, the hair salon, selling magazine subscriptions, Rodbell's Luncheonette, then finally the Lunch Box. Maybe I'm forgetting one of her jobs. Oh yeah, she also worked at the Lobo Lounge for a while.
CrazyAngel 02-05-2013, 04:16 AM I thought that it was ridiculous that Dan would start a bike shop in a town where most people could barely afford a car, much less a motorcycle. He didn't have Lanford's demographics in mind.

Well he did give it a try which he should get some credit for.

I think Roseanne had better reason for her job jumping than Dan. She left Wellman Plastics because her boss was a complete jackass and the jobs she had up until Rodbell's felt temporary until something more secure came along (which it did). Her job at Rodbell's could've proven a lifer had they not shut down and even then, she successfully opened a business (Dan couldn't do that).
SlayerShel 02-06-2013, 07:22 AM I think Dan was a good guy but didn't have much business sense.

I don't know why she quit that beauty parlor job. Those ladies were all very nice. Her boss Marsha really appreciated her and everyone was her friend. She should have stuck it out there.

i think she quit because of the Mrs Wellman hitting her with the car incident.
Hughsgirl 03-25-2013, 10:30 AM Both Dan and Rosanne were lazy and lacked any kind of motivation to do anything with their lives. The worst part for me was the blaming everyone else for what they chose to do with their own lives. They both blamed their parents alot, which is a huge cop out IMO.

She continued working at the Beauty Parlour AFTER the incident with Wellman. Remember the Birthday Episode when she decided to start writing again? The staff wished her Happy Birthday even Mrs Wellman. I think she rattled off some nonsense about her cousin doing Caligraphy.

thank you, i remember that now... i also wish like another poster said they had kept the beauty parlor people longer, they were good characters... it was sure better than the chicken place job.

The whole premise could have been spun off into it's own series...hey why not?
Will and Grace Fanatic 03-29-2013, 10:27 PM There are alot of people like that. My step-dad reminds me of Dan. He had a pretty bad temper and would do anything to defend our family. He also went through various jobs as well. I think Dan just wasn't happy with any of his jobs so he just went from one to another.

People who are lazy and don't want to actually work for a paycheck are generally unhappy with any job. He was a good person, I liked him, but he was lazy.

You can add roseanne to that lazy too

Absolutely I do see her as lazy as I have mentioned in a previous post. This may be poltically Incorrect, especially from today's standards, but being that the man of the house was always the main bread winner, I put more on his shoulders. This is probably because I come from that upbringing where it's even more shameful for the man to be so lazy. Again, I don't want to offend anyone but that's just how I see it. Now of course, you really need both parties working today, but still I see that "man of the house" as the one who needs to do more to take care of his family. I'm traditional like that.

Dan Lazy? How?
Neutronman67 04-07-2013, 03:41 PM Yeah the man is a jerk in every episode of the show lol
Hughsgirl 04-09-2013, 01:05 PM Dan Lazy? How?
Because he refused to hold on to a job? Or was in between jobs constantly? Maybe the bike shop wasn't his fault, IDK, but I think the idea of having his own business was bigger than he was and more than he could handle. He didn't even know he wanted it until his old buddy breezed into town with the idea. And yes Rosanne was just as bad, but at least she went to work at fast food joints to try to keep food on the table. We didn't see Dan doing that.

For a while Dan had his own construction business and then work slowed to nil and then he started another business which was the Motorcycle repair business, that went under. Dan also did the temp jobs working in the Men's Dress shop and then he was selling hot tubs. Dan then went into business with his friends remodeling houses until Roger ran off with the their earnings. And his last job was the job with the city.
So I would say that Dan was far from lazy, he actually worked and when he wasn't working it bothered him. I could see he went years without a job and he wasn't actively looking for work, then I would say that he was lazy.
Corkys-Place 04-21-2013, 01:03 AM Ziggy was an idiot who still thought of himself as a teenager in the 60's.

I just think Ziggy was the type who wasn't into the family life

Ziggy was a free spirit. He wasn't hurting anyone.
selleckfan4ever 04-24-2013, 12:29 AM but then they woul get soe money to get ahead and they woul waste it.(like going out to eat in fancy restaurant and also the trip to disney world) bould have been put to better use,i do have to say that when they did get ahead there wasnt any fighting about sharing it
Corkys-Place 04-24-2013, 01:37 AM Ziggy was a free spirit. He wasn't hurting anyone.
Didn't he basically screw Dan over with the opening of the Bike Shop? It's been years since I've seen the episode so I'm not 100% clear on what happened. I think Dan and Ziggy were orginally going into the venture as partners but he backed out at the last minute? Never to be seen in the series again.
