Watch a football game at a male friend's house

Go to a poker game with his male friends

Just would have like to see him have some male bonding time outside the house for a change so I could see him in a different way. The show just sends a message that once you are married there is no more time with your friends just the family.

He basically never had a male friend on the show

Cliff was Super Doctor, he really didn't have any free time, but he did play cards and Lawn Bowling with his father a lot.

Family members don't count!

Cliff needed to have a bowling night once a week with his guy friends. But ooops.....I don't think Claire allowed him to have any friends!

You know we saw James Evans and Dan Conner and George Jefferson around other men when they were not around their family. Everytime we saw Cliff around another man it was because the guy knew Russel or was the husband of one of Clair's girlfriends:lol:

Right. The only way the writers would have considered letting Cliff go bowling is if Claire could show up and beat the pants off of him.

Cliff preferred to go down in the basement and listen to his old jazz records. Maybe he didn't want company and just wanted to mellow out.

I don't know why you would be surprised, I'm talking about when you said that you would have liked to see Cliff at his male friends house. We never saw Dan or James at his friends house. And what was wrong with Cliff hanging out with his dad? His dad was probably one of his best friends. Also the Dr. Harmon was one of Cliff's friends, he wasn't just Clair's friend husband.

We saw Dan and James in the presence of other men when their kids or family was not around.

Dan always had a poker game with just him and the guys

James was at a bar with male buddies two times

We never saw cliff around other men without his father or wife

But Dan was at home and Roseanne always seemed to make her face seen. And the episodes that you're talking about with James, he wasn't there long, he was there to drink a beer and to clear his head, he never went to the bar just hang out with the boys, he never had friends over. At least with Cliff, his scenes with his friend/s were longer than a minute long. I think with married men it's a rarity to go out with your friends just to hang, especially when the married man has a wife and children at home. A lot of men work during the week and the weekends is family time.

Umm, the family was still in the same room butting in to the conversation. The only time James had a good time hanging with his friends were never shown on camera.

We never saw Dan or James at his friends house. .
That is not true about Dan. He went to Fred's house a few times to just hang out, eat pizza or play poker. We've also seen him go out to the Lobo Lounge with his friend Ziggy or they would ride their motorcycles together.

Also, when Dan's poker pals would come to his house, they would TALK about how poker night is at someone else's house every week or whatever. They would take turns hosting the poker games. So we didn't SEE Dan playing poker at other people's houses, but we knew it was off screen.

Fred was family, and Ziggy was like James friend on Good Times, we saw him once and never again. He wasn't a hanging buddy.

The whole reason Jackie ever met Fred was because he was DAN'S friend. Dan is the one that introduced the two of them.

We saw Ziggy more than once. There was the one time that he came by and wanted to buy the bike shop. He went with the Connors to the loan office, but later changed his mind and left town. Then he came back to town for a while when Dan was rebuilding his old Norton motorcycle. Ziggy was going on about how his "old lady" dumped him and he "left a piece of his heart in her trailer." Dan even made up a song about it. They were just HANGING OUT in the garage.

I never said that he wasn't Dans friend, But when they were around each other most of the time Roseanne was in the pic or Mark was in the pic. And so Family was around.

I think what Sol is trying to get at is that we never saw Cliff alone without any family being seen just hanging with his friends or friend.

Bottom line....Cliff had NO real friends.

James Evans didn't think twice about going out to the bar to chill out and see some buddies if he wanted.

Dan didn't think twice if he wanted to play poker, ride motorcyles, or go to the Lobo Lounge with his friends if he wanted.

Neither James or Dan felt that they needed their wive's permission to go out.

On the other hand, Cliff was whipped big time. He didn't do anything without Claire's permission. I'm surprised she allowed him to use the bathroom when he wanted. Cliff needed a dog collar.
