It is going to suck being there being trampled on MickeyMac 11-09-2012, 02:10 PM Black Friday is when the psychos come out. Only Black Friday I do is the record store Black Friday. Less fruitcakes and more music fanatics. phoebe7165 11-09-2012, 04:15 PM I just heard on the radio that last year WM opened its doors at 10pm, Thanksgiving night, for shoppers. Now this year, they are opening at 8pm. Geez, why don't they just stay open all of Thanksgiving Day??? BTW, I have never shopped on BF and I never will. I don't understand how anybody would want to go through that stress just to save a few bucks. JamesG 11-09-2012, 04:28 PM I've shopped on Black Friday over at Costco for the past few years. That's how I get all of the sweet deals for the more expensive items. I bought my new HP computer w/ 20 inch HD monitor and a few years prior to that I got my 48 inch HD flatscreen TV all from Black Friday. I also go crazy over movie/tv show deals. I'm not the person who camps outside of the stores for weeks though. MrCleveland 11-09-2012, 07:17 PM I'm stayin' at home, watching some cartoons and movies, and eating salad sandwiches (Tuna, Egg, Chicken, Ham). robyrob 11-09-2012, 10:17 PM just as easy to shop Black Friday online - lots of deals, just make sure you price check with a site like www.camelcamelcamel.com to make sure you are really getting a deal OH Nuts! 11-10-2012, 10:12 AM I have never shopped on Black Friday. I'm not that desperate! I shop online.:D Think about this! Ugh! There are a lot of Black Friday shoppers with the mind set in your picture. I used to skip Black Friday UNTIL I finally figured out what's good to buy on that day & what isn't. Electronic items are out; I'm not willing to wait 10 hrs in the cold to save $50 or even $200 for that matter. But Black Friday can be GREAT for smaller stuff. Like getting a 75 pack of DVDs for $10 at Radio Shack. 20% off everything at Bed, Bath and Beyond. 99 cent videos at Best Buy to use as stocking stuffers. Etc. For these kinds of items Black Friday is great. TVFactFan 11-10-2012, 01:58 PM This will be my first time ever shopping on Black Friday if I get this job offer I;m waiting for before Thanksgiving I will be looking for a deal on a new laptop. shotzette 11-10-2012, 02:44 PM As a former retail employee, you can't pay me to go near a store or a mall on Black Friday. I do have to work that day, but at my office and with most of my coworkers gone. Ahhhh, peace... Regulus 11-10-2012, 02:52 PM Looks like I'll be sitting this one out. I used to get in line for the Snowglobe JC Penney would give away, but their is no mention of it in this year's flyer. Nothing in any of the flyers interest me, so I'll just sleep in. duckie 11-10-2012, 03:28 PM Im staying in bed while all those fools trample each other to death. I've never been black friday shopping and never will. AB 11-10-2012, 04:27 PM I used to shop on Black Friday, but after seeing two men get in a fist fight over a tv, I decided it just wasn't worth the risk. Also I'll have to work breakfast shift that day & since we're located fairly close to the mall, we'll do a lot of business. Many of the men drop their wives off at the mall & then come over for breakfast. But for those who do shop on Black Friday, hope you get some great deals. mets82 11-10-2012, 05:21 PM I think Black Friday can be a good thing. The problem is that it only takes a few people to ruin everything. If you have order and everyone is calm, the only problem you have is the long lines. That fault should be on the people. I'm sure there are a lot of nice people out there but again some people have to ruin it for everybody else. To me, too bad you couldnt have people go to the stores based on how much you make. Do you think its fair for someone making 100,000 a year to stand in line for Black Friday? Dont you think someone who is making 20K a year or struggling to make ends meat deserve to be first? OH Nuts! 11-11-2012, 12:16 AM I used to shop on Black Friday, but after seeing two men get in a fist fight over a tv, I decided it just wasn't worth the risk. I am just about done with my Christmas shopping.:D Regulus 11-11-2012, 08:59 PM I have a theme for Thanksgiving this year: Thanksgiving - The Way It Used To Be In the morning I will watch the MACY's parade followed by the Detroit Lions Football Game. I will have a traditional Turkey Feast with a Neighbor's Family. When I return home, it's time to fire up my VCR, I'm watching The Mouse on the Mayflower followed by the Movie Plymouth Adventure. With nothing major interesting me, I will not stay up all night to get a "Doorbuster" on Thursday Evening. Beall's will be giving away a Christmas Tree Ornament at 6:00 AM and Sam's Club will host a Free Breakfast. That's it for me. IMO "Black Friday" has gotten way out of hand. Corporate Greed is RUINING our Holidays. :angryfire It just isn't the fun it used to be. :( When I return home, I will re-create what a Detroit Area TV Station used to do on the day after Thanksgiving. They would show the Movie The Man Called Flintstone during their Morning Movie and Hey There, It's Yogi Bear! during their Afternoon Movie, in between they'd show nothing but Cartoons. Thanks to DVDs, I'll be able to re-create my Childhood! :D That Evening, my Holiday TV Viewing officially kicks off with the Movie The Polar Express. :santa: OH Nuts! 11-12-2012, 01:23 AM I have a theme for Thanksgiving this year: Thanksgiving - The Way It Used To Be In the morning I will watch the MACY's parade followed by the Detroit Lions Football Game. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I feel about Thanksgiving the way Fleet feels about Halloween. Even though I do B.F. I do go to bed and usually get up at 4:30-5:30. I will not shop on Thanksgiving Day no matter what. But Friday's fair game. And I keep it focused but low-key. Like I said before, I've found B.F. a great day to bargain shop for non-electronic items. I usually get up (almost) this early anyways. Ohio8 11-13-2012, 08:58 PM I've never gone shopping on Black Friday, and I'm not going to start this year. I don't even know if I'm going to Cleveland next week. comedyfreak 11-14-2012, 07:55 AM I have never shopped on Black Friday. I'm not that desperate! I shop online.:D Think about this! Same here and I'm done!! LOL OH Nuts! 11-14-2012, 09:06 AM The key to B.F. is not getting sucked into the frenzy. Before this, my attitude toward BF was to h* ll with it, it's going to be too crazy. But waiting in line for hours for a store to open, THAT I will never do. And honestly, if you avoid the electronics, it's really not that bad at all. At least in NYC. But I do go for my staples relatively early. 70s show watcher 11-14-2012, 06:07 PM i went to one black friday sale 12 years ago that was enough for me pure maddness 70s show watcher 11-14-2012, 06:10 PM I have never shopped on Black Friday. I wake up at 2:30 get to Toys R Us by 4 get the nieces and nephews Christmas done then I go to Target and check out the Christmas aisles by 5. The rest of the day I just shop and enjoy all the Christmas decorations and music. Great day Regulus 11-17-2012, 08:48 AM The Big River posted its list of what DVDs they will discount next week and there is NOTHING that tickles my fancy. Either I have it or it simply isn't my cup of tea. As I mentioned earlier, I'm having an "Old Fashioned" Thanksgiving this year. :turkey: Ohio8 11-20-2012, 08:29 PM I've never gone shopping on Black Friday, and I'm not going to start this year. Jonathan Alcorn / Reuters New York (CNNMoney) - Apparently, full stomachs after Thanksgiving dinners put people in the mood for some real shopping. Customers flocked in to early store openings on Thanksgiving day to scoop up "doorbuster" deals. A record 247 million shoppers visited stores and websites in the post-Thanksgiving Black Friday weekend this year, up 9% from 226 million last year, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation released Sunday. Individual shoppers also shelled out more money -- spending $423 this weekend, up from $398 last year. Total spending over the four-day weekend reached a record $59.1 billion, a 13% increase from $52.4 billion last year, according to the NRF. The survey found that retailers' push to open stores earlier appealed to customers. Stores like Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, Sears and Target, that ushered in customers just as Thanksgiving meals wrapped up, saw a boost. About 10% of this weekend's shoppers were out at stores by 8 p.m. on Thursday and an estimated 28% of weekend shoppers were at the stores by midnight, compared to 24.4% last year. "The only way to describe the Thanksgiving openings is to call them a huge win," said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. "Thanksgiving shopping has really becoming an extension of the day's activities. Whole families are going." In a separate survey, ShopperTrak found that the number of people shopping in stores climbed 3.5% from last year to more than 307.67 million. Bill Martin, ShopperTrak's founder, said that traffic hasn't been this high since 2006. He said that the return to pre-recession levels indicates a real recovery in consumer behavior. "We've seen that consumers are willing to shop a few extra stores," Martin said. "This could translate into more impulse buying and stronger sales." But not everyone wanted to wait in line. Online sales soared more than 17% on the Thursday of Thanksgiving, followed by a nearly 21% increase on Friday over last year, according to IBM Benchmark. Sales made from mobile devices climbed by 16%, with more than 24% of consumers using mobile devices to visit a retailer's website. The NRF had predicted that looming fears over the "fiscal cliff" and the struggling jobs market could weigh on holiday spending. That's why it estimated that holiday sales will rise by 4.1%, which is slower than the 5.6% increase last year. Shay said that between 65% and 80% of shoppers factor overall economic conditions into holiday spending decisions. Its survey found that two thirds of shoppers will pay with cash or debit, highlighting people's aversion to taking on too much debt in a still slow-recovering economy. But retailers are hopeful that these strong Black Friday figures set a tone for a solid season of spending ahead. The Thanksgiving shopping tradition kicks off the holiday season sales blitz, wherein stores can make up to 40% of their annual sales in the November-December period. "A single day doesn't make up a holiday season, but if you don't start off well on that day, you have trouble catching up," Martin said. Copyright 2012 by CNN NewSource. All rights reserved. |
