I love this film. I got the Tromasterpiece Collection 2-disc set. Which features bother versions of the film, the original version American Nightmare, and Troma's cut Combat Shock. Though Troma was the only company to distribute the film back in the 80's they totally mishandled it, they tried to sell it as another low budget Rambo clone, from the trailer to the poster above. But with the new DVD release Troma definitely made up for it.
Torgo 11-05-2012, 10:49 AM Blood Junkie '10  (Four teens and a kid go camping, they discover an abondoned building where something or someone lurks.
Extremely cheesy, but fun, and I found creepy in parts. They did a good job of making it look like it was set in the late 80's- right down to the 80's synth score.)

I came across another Blockbuster having a closeout sale (RIP) and I went through their TROMA section. I remembered how much you loved this movie and decided to pick it up.
The Vietnam stock footage didn't really look like it belonged.
I also got Troma's War.
JamesG 11-06-2012, 08:47 PM I recently watched the Kim Kardashian - Ray J sex tape that was available in my hotel room.

Love Troma's War too. Just as long as it's the uncut version. And speaking of stock footage, Troma used footage from War in A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell.

Torgo 11-09-2012, 10:12 AM Bad Ass '12  (A Vietnam veteran who becomes a local hero after saving a man from attackers on a city bus decides to take action when his best friend is murdered and the police show little interest in solving the crime. )

A Day Of Judgment '81  (In the 1920s, a man in black rides into a small Southern town to visit retribution upon the citizens who have strayed from the path of righteousness and religion. He does this, of course, by killing them in various bloody ways.
This IMDB synopsis makes it sound more exciting than it is, I still enjoyed it, but it is slow moving, and the man in black has a very small appearance, it mainly focuses on the town's sinners.)

Priscilla Barnes plays Mrs. Hatfield.
JamesG 11-13-2012, 05:14 PM Haunted Castle (2001) on DVD
A 30-minute short film, made almost entirely in CGI, telling the story of a young musician summoned to his mother's old castle after her death and gets an offer to sell himself to Satan in return for becoming a rock star.
The film works like an old CD-ROM video game from the 90s; with the same effects, voice acting and POV style. I liked the sequence where you go on a ride through hell that reminded me of motion simulator rides.

A group of role-playing buddies meet at their former high school teacher's house for their weekly play gatherings.
One of them takes his own life after he is rejected by one of his role-playing partners and then comes back to life to get revenge in the form of some knight spirit.
One of the worst movies I have had the displeasure of viewing. Everything about it is painfully bad: the plot, the acting, the effects...

I hear ya on this one, and I love bad horror flicks, but this was awful. Too bad, I'm always up for D&D themed horror flicks, the few that there are.
DJ Perry has become synonymous with bad movies, though I did enjoy The 8th Plague that he co-produced and starred in.

One of the monks mysteriously dies around the time of their arrival and Connery gets permission to investigate the death. Then more monks start dying off and it becomes a who-done-it murder mystery.

Ah, thanks.
Slightly off-topic, but as a die-hard game show fan myself, I think the most interesting fact about Private Lessons is that Jack Barry & Dan Enright (known for the quiz show scandals, Tic Tac Dough, The Joker's Wild, and Bullseye, among others) produced it. I also read that Jack Barry got so much hate mail for that film, so much in fact, that he never made another film again, because of it.
Also, for the trailer and TV spots, they had veteran game show announcer Jay Stewart provide the narration.

It is narrated by Sir Ralph Richardson and other actors recite lines from Shakespeare's plays, such as Sir Michael Redgrave.
You may find this one to be quite boring if you are not into Shakespeare.

From the makers of 1987's Mad Ron's Prevues from Hell, just not as annoying. And I give them credit this time around actually showing trailers that I've never seen before in all of the other trailer compilations. JamesG 11-24-2012, 03:02 PM Stone Pillow (1985) on DVD
This is a CBS television movie that originally aired Nov. 25, 1985.
A young and determined new NYC social worker (Daphne Zuniga) is eager to help the homeless, but she is disappointed at the inadequate care of the shelter and assistance programs around. She then wants to experience first-hand on how the homeless live day-to-day out in the streets so she can learn how to help them better.
She meets an older homeless woman Florabelle (Lucille Ball) and Flora thinks she's a teenage runaway and shows her the ropes on how to live out in the NYC streets. They eventually become closer during their experiences, but Flora soon feels betrayed when she learns the true nature of her new friend.
* This was Lucille Ball's final film and it received mixed reviews upon original release. This led her to make one more attempt at comedy, which would turn out to be the flop "Life with Lucy".

Mickey Rooney plays a car mechanic who steals money from the register so he can take a girl out on a date.
This little crime then escalates into worse misdeeds when he has to cover up his petty theft with crimes more serious than the last.
* Mickey Rooney did this movie in an attempt to rid himself of his Andy Hardy image by taking on more serious roles. He co-financed the film himself with Peter Lorre and they lost money when a third-party investor did not pay their share of the profits.
This led Rooney to have great disdain for the film and he wrote in his autobiography, "The less I speak about that movie, the better."

An American hustler living in Singapore starts running a brothel so that he can make a fortune and then return to the U.S. in a life of luxury.

* The director created a fake script to submit to the Singaporean authorities knowing that they would never sanction a film depicting their country for being a center of corruption and sleaze.
Singapore then banned the movie after it came out when they saw the true nature of the flick. The ban was finally lifted in March 2006.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e10/JamesGrec/grindhouse-1.jpg
This is a double-feature film directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino made as a tribute to the old "grindhouse" theaters. These were places that showed mainly low-budget, B-grade exploitation and horror flicks usually billed as double-features.
Grindhouse also featured 5 fake-trailers to go along with the movie to mimic the kind of "grindhouse" flicks that would have been advertised at the time they were around.
Two of the five trailers have been made into their own feature films since Grindhouse's release: Machete (2010) and Hobo with a Shotgun (2011).
Machete has turned into its own trilogy with Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again due to come out in the near future.
Eli Roth has expressed interest in making his fake-trailer Thanksgiving into a film. He is currently working on it with various writers.
Rob Zombie has mentioned that his fake-trailer Werewolf Women of the SS will probably never become a full movie due to its controversial content and no one willing to finance/distribute it.
There has been no official word on what could happen with Edgar Wright's fake-trailer Don't, but it has been rumored that it is a contender should Grindhouse 2 come about.

This is an unintentional documentary about a young man tracking down his online love in order to find out who she really is.
Basically this guy "Nev" wanted to buy some artwork and he came across this talented 8-year-old artist on Facebook. He bought some of her work and messaged her saying how impressed he was with the pieces.
He then gets friend requests from other members of her family and he gets introduced to the young artist's older sister "Megan". Nev and Megan then form an serious online relationship. When the relationship grows more serious Nev discusses wanting to meet her in person and he gets fed a bunch of reasons as to why Megan is unavailable to meet.
Nev's brother and his friend are aspiring filmakers (who would then go on to do Paranormal Activity 3 and 4) and they were randomly filming Nev communicating with Megan via the computer and phone. They decide that what they are filming will make a great project and encourage Nev to go along with this for the sake of a documentary.
The three of them then track down where "Megan" lives and are faced with many surprises.
If you have or are interested in online relationships this is a must-see recommendation for you.
Nev currently hosts "Catfish" on MTV where he helps people track down their online lovers.

The last is a 12-year-old girl who is from the social media generation. It shows how all of the sexualized mainstream ads, tv shows and music videos affects her in showing how women are portraying themselves.

aka Shattered Silence
This was a tv-movie that originally aired under the title When Michael Calls during the ABC Movie of the Week on Feb. 5, 1972.
The title was renamed Shattered Silence on the subsequent VHS and DVD releases.
It was one of Michael Douglas' earliest film roles.
A woman going through a difficult divorce starts getting mysterious phone calls from her nephew who was supposedly dead for 15 years.
She has to figure out who is behind the phone calls and find out what really happened to him.
* This was given a very cheap home release and the VHS and DVD descriptions on the back got the plot details very wrong.
For one, the kid who died was the woman's nephew and not her son.
I also saw on the DVD release that a threesome is mentioned between the main characters which never occurs at all. One of the three is the woman's brother.

John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band is a rare look at one of the world’s most influential popular artists at a pivotal moment in his career. Filmed on the eve of the release of the Abbey Road LP — the last Beatles album to be recorded — this is the only performance ever caught on film of John Lennon & the Plastic Ono Band.
Seemingly on a whim, John and wife Yoko Ono hopped on a plane with guitarist Eric Clapton, bassist Klaus Voormann and drummer Alan White to travel to the Toronto Rock ’N’ Roll Revival festival showcasing some of Lennon’s early musical heroes — among them Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard.
As it turned out, Lennon and the newly formed Plastic Ono Band played an equally significant role that night in the history of rock ’n’ roll, as it is widely believed this concert foreshadowed the official end of The Beatles.
Captured by Academy Award–nominated director D.A. Pennebaker, this concert film serves as one of the great historical documents in the career and life of John Lennon.

I have always liked this movie, some of the best special effects in a horror movie I have ever seen.
But watching it again last night I noticed one thing I never remembered.
There is zero character development. I mean, there is no general conversation between the men beyond what is now happening with the crisis.
We learn nothing about their background or friendships or life at the station. (I mean Mac is a chopper pilot - that's it)
And with so many characters, there is little to distinguish them as individuals.
We learn nothing of them. I mean nothing.
But in general its a sight to see.

JamesG 01-22-2013, 01:49 PM Haunted Gettysburg (1998) on VHS
A short hour-long documentary about various haunted spots around Gettysburg, PA.
* This is a rare VHS since I believe they were only sold in Gettysburg gift shops and once they were gone that was it.
I bought this back in 1999 when I went there and watching it brought back many memories of the trip.
It's not available on DVD and probably never will be.

JamesG 01-23-2013, 02:52 PM The Over-the-Hill Gang (1969) on DVD
A retired Texas Ranger's son-in-law is the young newspaper editor in a corrupt town who publicly exposes what's going on.
He calls his elderly and retired Texas Ranger pals to come to town and help him rid it of the corruption.
* This originally aired as an ABC Movie of the Week. It was the pilot of a television series that never got picked up.
The DVD release features the Our Gang short 'Spooky Hooky' (1936) as a bonus feature.

JamesG 01-24-2013, 03:45 PM Heavyweights (1995) via Showtime-on-Demand
The longtime owners of Camp Hope, a summer camp for overweight boys to have fun in w/o being made fun of, announce their retirement and it is then bought by an insane fitness guru.
* Was a childhood favorite of mine. I haven't seen it in years.
The film was one of the earliest works of Judd Apatow.
JamesG 01-25-2013, 10:38 AM Ghosts of Mars (2001) on DVD
Set in the future, Mars has become terraformed so that humans can walk on the planet w/o any breathing assistance machines.
Disembodied spirits of an ancient Martian civilization are released and they possess people to get revenge on the "outsiders" taking over their planet.
* This isn't the best of John Carpenter's work, but I liked the cast and the film's soundtrack.
Carpenter was so burnt-out after making the flick, as well as being disappointed at the financial failure, that he planned on leaving Hollywood for good.
It wasn't until 2010 that he returned to direct w/ 'The Ward'.
JamesG 01-26-2013, 02:20 PM The Inspectors 2: A Shred of Evidence (2000) on VHS

JamesG 01-27-2013, 02:53 AM The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) on VHS
The film works as a parody of "The Brady Bunch" tv-show by having them dress in 70s fashion and living a lifestyle of 70s sitcom morality in the 1990s.
* Many of the original cast worked on the film, with the exception of Robert Reed (who died) and Eve Plumb chose not to participate.
Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen and Maureen McCormick all filmed scenes, but they did not make the final cut.

JamesG 01-27-2013, 07:16 PM Willow (1988) on VHS
Another one of my childhood fav's I haven't seen in a while.
The film is continued in the Chronicles of the Shadow War book trilogy that were released between 1995-2000.

I enjoyed it. It was quite a downer, obviously, but definitely worth watching.
JamesG 01-28-2013, 01:27 AM Jeffrey Dahmer: The Secret Life (1993) on DVD
This independent film focuses on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer's 1987-1991 murder spree of young boys and men.
I enjoyed this much more than Jeremy Renner's 2002 flick Dahmer which was more of a character drama. The Secret Life focuses more on the crimes.
* The film is one of the few serial killer films to be completed while the killer was alive. Dahmer was beaten to death in prison in 1994 which was shortly after this was released.
Jeffrey Dahmer: The Secret Life was dedicated to Dahmer's victims.

Pick-up '75  (Sexy hippie chicks Carol and Maureen get more than they bargained for when they hitch a ride with groovy hippie dude Chuck in his nifty mobile bus home. The trio get lost in the Florida Everglades following a fierce rain storm and embark on a startling spiritual journey of self-discovery.
The poster art is extremely misleading as it makes it look like it's a rape revenge type flick, which it isn't. )

JamesG 01-28-2013, 11:52 AM F/X2: The Deadly Art of Illusion (1991) on VHS
Takes place 5 years after the first film in which F/X artist Rollie Tyler is called upon to help capture a homicidal maniac using his special effects skills.
* Was the first acting role of General Hospital's Dominic Zamprogna.

I recently picked this up and will get to it soon.
I'm surprised that the film didn't have one of those VHS promo releases like what they did for House of the Devil a few years back.
