They bragged about winning the Lottery right in front of Edna, a girl they didn't even know that well, but knew she had been in jail before. JJ should have pretended to have lost while Edna was there, and after she left, then tell the truth that he actually won.

a lot of people are idiots when they win the lottery - I've heard of people on the local news that won $50 on a scratch-off, then got mugged outside in the parking lot.

That's different, because they won the scratch off money in a public place where anyone could see them get the money. The Evans won the money in a private house.

I don't think that they were idiots. Since they lived in an apartment building I'm pretty sure that it would have spread throughout the neighborhood that they had won the lottery. So Rozzie and Edna would have tried to rob them anyway.

But wouldn't people with common sense keep their mouths shut and cash the ticket quietly?

In real life who would cash a ticket and not tell family and friends? It would have gotten out either way. Now they could have said that they won less money then what they actually won, that would have made more sense.

I agree, that was their private business and they should have been more discrete about it. Especially in front of someone they didn't know that well

Edna and Rozzie were not their friends

What's your point? If J.J, Michael, Thelma or Florida would have told anyone besides Wilona, the word would have gotten out and spread like fire. So the Evans would have gotten held up, there isn't any way of getting around that.

Ok, and? Thelma was still tutoring Edna. Edna was going to rob them no matter what. They could have celebrated in private, and they would have still gotten robbed because one of them would have told a friend, and that friend would have told a friend and so on and so on. Word would have gotten back to Edna, they lived in the same neighborhood. Edna had access to the Evans.

No she wasn't going to rob them because to her they were just a typical project family until they won the LOOT

So are you saying that EVEN THOUGH she would have KNOWN that they had won the lottery she wouldn't have robbed them if she hadn't seen them celebrating? The girl had a gun. They won the lottery. Edna was going to rob them if she had seen them celebrating or not. All she had on her mind was "Steal their money."

What family, who has never has a large sum of money at one time, a family who just won a lottery, is going to keep quite about that? I know if I would have won that $200 Million Powerball last week, I know for sure I would have told my immediate family and a few friends.

Well I will say this, you don't expect a female in her teen to pull out a gun and want to rob you so I guess they never thought about hiding it

yesterday two 14-year-olds and and 11-year-old in our neighborhood held up a guy with a gun and tried to rob him - he chased them off with his rake, the 11-year old was actually the one holding the gun when they caught them.

also yesterday, two 15 year-old girls broke out of boarding school, broke into a house while the people were home, stole a woman's purse and the drove off in her minivan.

desperate times, desperate measures, and stupid kids will do just about anything if given the opportunity.

I understand, high unemployment + rising prices= "HIGH CRIME"

Which was the indirect point that was made in most of the Good Times eps and the episode with the two girls robbing

I'm not understanding, What does unemployment have to do with preteens and teens stealing and who aren't old enough to work? It's more like lack of parenting not unemployment.

Unemployed Parents or Broke Parents=Broke Kids

Kids who are not old enough to work usually get an allowance from their parents. If the parents have no money to give to the kids then the kids become desperate

The End:lol:

I think that it's more about lack of parenting is the reason why some kids steal. If you teach your kids right from wrong and instill values then they won't be little hoodlums.

What is your explanation for rich kids who steal? Or kids who go into a store with money in their pockets and they steal?

Sometimes kids will hook up with the wrong crowd so it's not always the parents fault.

And rich kids do it because they are BORED

When you have 11 year old's robbing people, I blame the parents. You train your kids, and when a 11 year old is out robbing people, that is a lack of training and parenting. There was the girl that I us to be bestfriends with when I was younger, she use to go to the mall and steal just to steal she always had money. She did that up until she got caught. She didn't do it because she was bored, she was just stupid

But I do agree that SOME kids who grow up with money steal because they are bored and spoiled. I will admit that I'm spoiled, I'm spoiled rotten  but I have never stolen anything in my life.

I'd think that it would be hard to contain excitement when you are in the ghetto and watching live lottery drawing in your house while guests are over. If you think you can trust the guest, then you wouldn't think about them robbing you since you are happy with excitement about winning.

But to celebrate and jump up and down in front of someone who was poor who they barely knew was not a good decision as we saw:lol:

They were poor too. They were happy. They would have watched the drawing whether Edna was there or not. Edna would have known that they would have won even if they held back excitement. Excited or not, Edna saw dollars signs and would have attempted to get the money anyway.

Edna was kind of slow because why would you rob someone who lives in the same projects as you? She was supposed to go to the projects on the Northside:lol:

Well, a man who won The Lottery was killed a few years back by trusting some woman he didn't know all that well to hold his money for him. She stole his winnings and killed him when he asked her for his money back. You never should freely let people know you won The Lottery.....
