In the ep Florida's Rich Cousin James revealed that J.J's dental bill was $325 and that they still owed on the bill from Florida's operation

Why did they need to borrow money to pay that?-lol Everything comes before a damm medical bill

Food
Rent
Utility Bills
Clothes

Did I miss anything?

What also pissed me off about James in that episode was that he made poor JJ feel guilty for having to go to the dentist.

Back in 1996, I had to pay a little over $5,000 to the dentist. I had to pay him up front before he started the procedure. And that was only for four teeth!

Medical and Bank debt are worst when it comes to credit. Not everyone has the mentality of NOT paying their bills. There are people out there who don't want that on their credit, also when you're an adult you pay your debt, it goes along with being an adult.

I broke my wrist when I was 21 and it took me forever to pay that off, Well my husband end up paying it off

But since they were low income and Florida had a unexpected health situation they didn't have to concern themselves with paying off the bill because the things below were more important

Food
Rent
Utility Bills

Just because you're low income doesn't mean that you don't pay your bills. They were never truly hurting for anything. Medical bill is a bill like any other bill and you pay it. If your thinking about buying a house or a car, you don't want that showing up on your credit. Even if you're low income, you never know when you'll become fortunate enough to put a down payment on a house or car. And nowadays companies are doing credit checks on people who apply for jobs, so if your unemployed you for sure don't want that on your credit.

Yes it does appear on your credit because it was on mine for a few years until it was paid off. So that is a big fat lie. And what's worse is that the hospital collections will sell your debt to another collections agency just so it will stay on your credit for years, and then that collections agency will sell it to another collection agency. Go to the hospital now and don't pay the bill, lets see what happens.

I had a hospital bill back in 2004 because I knew nothing about a $250 deductible after I had surgery. I thought the insurance covered me completely for the surgery and all of a sudden I get a bill for $250 and was like..."I ain't paying for this SH*T

It ended up going to $275 and I never paid it. And guess what? A year later I applied for a American Express Card and was approved and I still have that card 7 years later.

Are you saying medical bills is more important than FOOD??????????

When I broke my wrist, had a bill that was $6,000 plus some change from two hospitals and it stayed on my credit until it was paid off and in turn it messed with my credit score. That meant that when I went to purchase our first home we had to make a HUGE down payment. Medical debt and bank debt are the two evils to have on your credit. I told you a few years ago anyone can get a credit card  the credit that you get might not be that high but a company will give you a card especially if your a student or employed.

What I'm saying is to SOME people a bill is a bill and it has to be paid. Especially dental because you never know when you will need to take your children to the dentist. Don't get me started talking about health care LOL.

I never said that food wasn't important. I'm pretty sure that James and Flo would buy food before paying their med bill. I'm just saying that it was still a bill and it had to be paid like the others. I would stress over a med bill too if there wasn't that much money coming into the house. James just looked at it as another bill that he had to pay.

I had a filling done back in April, and I just got the bill two weeks ago. My insurance covered most of it, but all I pay is $14.00 I know that's nothing, but I will pay it. About seven years ago, I had another filling done, I got the bill a few months after, and I had to pay $111.00. I had different coverage, but I paid that off immediately.

I think James was indeed worried about having good credit which is why he was wanting to pay that crap off. He learned how his bad credit affected him when he wanted to buy JJ the art supplies. He mentioned having missed ONE payment on something and figured out that was why he was denied. If James wanted to rent a better apartment down the road, he may have been worried about those medical bills affecting his credit which can adversely affect someone renting an apartment. I know, I own property and when I check people's credit to make sure they can afford to pay the rent, I come across bad credit that includes unpaid medical bills, car repossessions, etc.

Some people are concerned about paying their bills and some don't care. I just size it up to James being one of those people who was not about to jump and run from his obligations. He wanted that monkey off his back.

I find it hard to believe that a medical debt did not go onto your credit, if that is so then you got lucky. But just because you were lucky does not mean that everyone will have that same luck. Medical debts do go onto your credit if left unpaid, and that is one debt that can mess you up for a long time.

It probably got lost somewhere. You sound like a relative of mine who constantly says, "This is what happened to me..." And whatever happened to him, it happens to everyone else.

I get that you may not have had your medical bill show up on your credit, that doesn't mean that is the norm or that it happens to everyone.

I have something that shows up on one credit report, but on two other ones it doesn't appear. I don't know what the standard is for why some things appear sooner than later, it might be due to what some companies do to recover the money. Sometimes they may not pursue something simply because they feel it is not worth it. I know someone who had a $100 debt removed from their credit report after 15 years! The collection agency felt it was not worth pursuing it legally since it would cost more than it was worth.

I don't know who you checked your credit with but they do list medical debts on your credit, believe me I know first hand. It's not gonna say "MEDICAL" in bold lettering, but it will go on your credit. Just because you say that it did not happen to you, that does not mean that it does not happen period. If you get sick now, go to the hospital, come home and not pay your bill, trust and believe it will be on your credit.

So this past year it went to a collection agency? If so, give it time, it will show up eventually. The collection agency won't put it on your credit report right away. They attempt to collect the debt first. Sometimes it takes months and maybe it takes a year or two before they get to the point of putting on your credit.

Believe me, I was happy when that debt was paid off. But because of that we had to put down a HUGE down payment on our first house. Past debts will catch up with you when you least expect it, even if you pay them off.
