I still use VHS. dakert 08-26-2012, 11:43 PM I still use VHS tapes to record Big Brother and once september gets here I will record Survivor. There is a Baseball Player on the new Survivor--who is he?? 70s show watcher 08-27-2012, 12:47 AM i still use vhs to record saturday night live Fleet 08-27-2012, 01:19 AM I still record with a VHS VCR and have a few hundred VHS tapes. JamesG 08-27-2012, 01:37 AM I use my DVR for recording now, so I no longer use VHS for recording current media. I don't know why but I never got into recording things on DVD, even though I had the machine to do it. I recorded on VHS until I got the DVR around three years ago. If I want to keep something I will then transfer that onto a DVD. However, I collect movies on VHS and still watch many. There are actually many movies that never made it to DVD/Blu-ray. tiredmike59 08-27-2012, 01:56 AM I'm taping right now. duckie 08-27-2012, 02:11 AM I still use VHS tapes to record Big Brother and once september gets here I will record Survivor. I still have so many video tapes which haven't been converted to disk and I want to keep watching them!:) mets82 08-27-2012, 12:59 PM Mine died a while back as well but I dont think they sell just VCR's anymore. Its a DVD/VCR. I think VCR's should never go out of style. And besides if VCR's become the way of BETA, then how am I going to transfer all my tapes to DVD? Thats going to cost me a small fortune. ponytail 08-27-2012, 03:07 PM I still use vhs. I need to get another tape because I have taped over my current one a zillion times. They both only lasted about a year each.:( One of them was a Zenith. Isn't that supposed to be a good one? Can anyone recommend a good dvd/vcr unit? The Flying Dutchmans 08-27-2012, 09:38 PM I use my DVR for recording now, so I no longer use VHS for recording current media. And I wish they had made it to DVD. The ones that didn't I have to buy on VHS and I usually have to go to Amazon or Ebay, and because they are OOP I end up having to pay a high price. a few years ago I bought "Lifeguard" with Sam Elliot and because it wasn't on DVD at the time I had to pay $38 for the VHS. Penny Lane 08-28-2012, 12:03 PM Mine's a JVC. Had it for about 6-7 years now and still going fine. Thanks! I'll look into that! retrofan05 08-28-2012, 01:47 PM My parents still have a VHS player. All of our home movies are on VHS, so that's basically the only reason we still need one. I only have a DVD player. Coffeecup 08-28-2012, 05:32 PM I have 2 VCRs. I bought a DVD and VCR dual deck a few months back and tried to figure the gadget out. I was able to use vcr fine but the door to the DVD didn't open. When buying it, thought i could learn about the DVD and would dub Vcr tapes to DVD. Then would use the DVD from then on. But I was so disappointed and said to myself. Is any thing easy anymore.?? I carted it back and stayed with Vcr for now. I will admit the VCRS still go but I do feel I am still living in 1985 regarding technology. I also have audio cassettes with music that I would like to have moved to new technology. Everything is bit of struggle. mets82 08-28-2012, 08:39 PM Coffeecup, I hear you. Im the same way when it comes to technology. I mean I dont see why VCRs should go away, the way the 8-track did. I mean whats the big deal? Some people cant afford I-Phones and I-Pads and stuff and I dont see the big problem. I have had a VCR literally forever and I found it to be a good tool to use. TVFactFan 08-29-2012, 01:55 AM Does anybody still use VHS to record tv shows or I am I the only one? I recorded something tonight on VHS:lol: Fleet 08-29-2012, 02:00 AM I recorded something tonight on VHS:lol: I record using VHS tapes/VCR very frequently. Probably an average of every 3 days or so. And the Oct., 2008 fires in my area (Porter Ranch); I have 3 tapes of that on tape. They are not obsolete yet JamesG 08-29-2012, 01:40 PM For those who still record with VHS, how is it with finding blank tapes today? I saw much more stocked 5-6 years ago as opposed to now. Zoneboy 08-29-2012, 01:45 PM For those who still record with VHS, how is it with finding blank tapes today? I saw much more stocked 5-6 years ago as opposed to now. Sealed blanks can often be found at Goodwill for about $1 each. I find name brands such as Sony, Maxell, TDK, etc... all the time and it's also a good place to find a used VCR for as little as $5. I have found a couple of Sony Betamax VCR's with remotes for $5. Torgo 08-29-2012, 04:55 PM I DVR shows and movies from Satellite , but I still collect VHS and laser discs that I can't find on DVD. Though I don't watch them on their original media, I transfer them to DVD. I'm glad I did this with the rare lasers I had as some of them became victim to laser rot. Even some of the films I've DVR'd I've transferred to DVD- the last I did was The Town That Dreaded Sundown which I got off of Turner Classics. AB 08-29-2012, 06:02 PM I also still use a vcr for recording shows that I don't plan to keep such as the news, Dateline & 48 Hours. I like it because you can keep taping over them until they eventually wear out. AKA 08-29-2012, 06:50 PM I haven't used VHS in about 13 years for factory-manufactured movies, and in 7 or 8 years for recording. With all due respect, I can't imagine why so many people still choose to use the medium to record. I can understand keeping VCRs around for old home recordings or out-of-print movies, but there are far better and more user-friendly technologies out there to record things. Being disabled, I'm about as impoverished as they get, but I still have a DVR and HDTV. AKA 08-29-2012, 07:17 PM That's cool. No judgment or anything; I'm just trying to understand. :) JamesG 08-29-2012, 08:40 PM All VHS lovers would love this. This is a trailer for an upcoming documentary Rewind This!. http://www.rewindthismovie.com/ KgPIysM1m54 Family Ties Forever! 08-30-2012, 05:39 AM No, I don't still have a vhs player. I haven't used one in a few years. MickeyMac 08-30-2012, 01:32 PM I still have a VCR, dont use it much, and only use it to watch tapes. Penny Lane 08-30-2012, 02:04 PM VHS tapes are hard to find in my area so I buy them through amazon.com:D Coffeecup 08-30-2012, 04:50 PM What do other use if you don't use a vcr? Do you have a Tivo, Dvr, Dvd ? Also what do others use to record audio such as music. I have about 100 audio cassettes with music. Anyway to convert to something else. Then could I use the something else in the future.? I have a computer. Can you do anything with that to convert? Any thoughts.? MickeyMac 08-30-2012, 07:46 PM For audio cassettes I would say try to convert them over to CD's. As for VHS tapes, there are places that convert them to DVD. Thats one option. Coffeecup 08-31-2012, 07:44 AM I looked on Google and found I can put them on Garage Band Application which I have on my Apple computer. I am going to give that a try. Hope I don't struggle too much. I don't know how long the CD is in time. 60-90 minutes. Hope I don;t have to cut back on the length. Furienna 09-01-2012, 09:29 PM I haven't used VHS in about 13 years for factory-manufactured movies, and in 7 or 8 years for recording. Being disabled, I'm about as impoverished as they get, but I still have a DVR and HDTV. It's actually DVD, that I don't find user friendly. With VHS tapes, you can record over and over. But with a DVD disc, that can't be done. You can delete what you have recorded, but you can't use that same space to record something else later. And also, if you record something on a VHS tape, you can easily rewind a little bit and start recording from there the next time. And that's another thing, that can't be done with a DVD disc. You're stuck with what you've recorded, whether you want to keep it or not. Mario500 09-10-2012, 12:04 PM Digital video discs labeled "DVD-RW" allow users to record video over the same space unlike discs labeled "DVD+R" or "DVD-Rs" (rewritable DVDs tend to be more expensive brand new). MrCleveland 09-10-2012, 12:53 PM I still use my VCR...not as much as I'd like to, but I still use it. That hasn't worked for me. Maybe something's wrong with my DVD player? Fleet 09-11-2012, 04:27 AM I have a few VHS video tapes. :D This is just part of my collection... OH Nuts! 09-12-2012, 12:16 AM I converted all my VHS except for two and threw those I converted out. I love DVD's so much more cause they take up LESS room and are cheaper than tapes. treky 09-12-2012, 02:39 AM Mine died a few months back but I am going to buy another one! I still have so many video tapes which haven't been converted to disk and I want to keep watching them!:) I didn't know they still made VCRs. KurtfromPitts 09-12-2012, 10:26 AM I still use mine, mainly to tape Three Stooges shorts and follow them with Lifetime/LMN movies. |
