View Full Version : 11 obsolete products that are still made..very interesting!
Big3sCompanyFan 08-22-2012, 03:22 PM I didn't know they only stopped making the Sony Walkman in 2010 or that they STILL make 35 mm film and there are still a few phone booths around!
Even typewriters are still used!

gilligan fanatic 08-22-2012, 06:29 PM Phone books are such a waste of paper, really wish they didn't send those anymore. When I was in New Zealand I saw a couple of phone booths, hadn't seen one of those (or even just a payphone) in years.
I work at a warehouse club and I have people every now and then ask if we sell 35mm film (we don't).
JamesG 08-22-2012, 07:22 PM I got my yellow pages delivered to my door a few months back.
Went right into recycling.
Big3sCompanyFan 08-23-2012, 04:36 AM One day land lines may even be a thing of the past!
Schmoopie 08-26-2012, 08:23 AM I agree about the phone books being a waste of paper. All you have to do now is Google something to find it. I used to take our phone books to work in case we needed them. I could see them still making 35mm film but the Walkman surprised me. And the fax machine was surprising b/c I wouldn't think of those as obsolete!

I guess they figue scanning, e - mail, and text messaging have greatly reduced the need for faxing.

I bought a Sony walkman about one year ago (bought online). I use it when biking and when watering the back yard.

That has a casette player right?
Fleet 08-29-2012, 01:58 AM That has a casette player right?
Yes, a cassette player. Also FM/AM and "mega-bass."
It really comes in handy but it would be nice if the AM stations had a better signal.
KurtfromPitts 08-29-2012, 12:07 PM I still use a Walkman myself.
tiredmike59 08-29-2012, 01:18 PM Do they still make money ?
I ain't seen much of it in awhile.

Eventually they may not. Some nations have talked about going to a cashless society where your money would be on your own debit card instead of cash.
It's much better for the environment.

If that happens, then the pickpockets and counterfeiters will join the ranks of the unemployed.

That's a good thing!
treky 09-02-2012, 03:12 AM I still use a Walkman myself.
I bought a walkman a couple years ago. I use it when I'm riding around the neighborhood.

What sucks is they really don't make casette decks any more if you buy a bookshelf stereo system. At least I couldn't find any.
Still have some cassettes worth listening to!
MrCleveland 09-07-2012, 01:09 PM There's still some audio and video cassettes made today, and you can actually get a record player at some stores!

Yeah, Best Buy still sells at least 1 type of record player and I'm pretty sure Amazon sells several.
What about 8 track tape players?
Ohio8 03-15-2013, 07:52 PM I only use my tape player when I'm going to get rid of a music cassette.
Ohio8 03-15-2013, 07:55 PM At the begin inning of 1989, I bought a Brother AX-22 typewriter. I use it to put
Adresses on typewriters and other forms that my computer's printer isn't capable of doing.
Furienna 03-15-2013, 08:23 PM I was just waiting for them to bring upp VCR tapes, but they didn't! I still use them every day.
treky 03-16-2013, 12:27 PM I recently bought a Walkman cassete player/radio that I use all the time.
You_Rang 03-16-2013, 12:38 PM We have a phonebooth across the street from our town's library.
treky 03-16-2013, 12:45 PM we have a pay phone in front of our library-noone ever uses it, though.:)
The Flying Dutchmans 03-16-2013, 01:25 PM Wouldn't it be cheaper if they stopped printing phone books and just stored the information on a DVD or flash drive and delivered it to you mailbox? It looks like those books cost allot to print.
PZelda 03-16-2013, 01:36 PM They still have a ton of phone booths in NYC.

Why would they do that, when everything is avaible on line?
treky 03-16-2013, 02:49 PM yes, but not everyone owns a computer or has access to one.
Furienna 03-16-2013, 02:57 PM Almost everyone does these days. And there's one more thing, that gives looking someone up on the internet an advantage over doing it in a phone books, or even a DVD or a flash drive: If someone changes their phone number, it can easily be changed on the internet too. But with a phone book or even an electronic device, you're stuck with the old one.
MickeyMac 03-18-2013, 01:00 PM Record players/turntables never died out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over the last decade there has been a major resurgance in record. Loads of new stuff comes out on record, even mainstream stuff. I am not a fan but Justin Timberlake's latest release is coming out on record.
I should know all this, I work in a record store.

Even typewriters are still used!Yes whadda ya know about that??
Not everyone has forgotton how good things used to be!
A good link!!!
Bonniegirl 02-07-2015, 01:37 AM Only thing if your internet is down or your computer crashes cause of a virus (like mine did a couple months ago) you are out of a computer for a few days to a week and you might need a phone #, so I do always keep a yellow pages when they deliver the new one and I throw the old one out!
Coffeecup 02-07-2015, 10:46 PM Big phone books are good for booster seats for kids. I have a walkman too. I suppose I could use my Ipod to listen but I don't think they last as long as a walkman. Those AA batteries in the walkman last a long time. Portable battery operated radios, surprise they say those are fading away. Anytime a winter storm is approaching I get out for power could go.
