View Full Version : I cannot be the only who saw chemistry between..
Blanche&Rosefan 08-18-2012, 03:52 PM Jack and Chrissy on the show, am I? I see after reading several threads that there are an awful lot of Jack/Janet fans. I never saw any romantic chemistry between the two of them. I did however see sparks between Jack and Chrissy. There are at least two or three episodes in the first season where it is hinted at. I always liked them together and if they hadn't went way too far with turning Chrissy into a dumb blond, Jack and Chrissy could have had a very sweet, slow building romance. I know a lot of folks here don't care for Suzanne but the early "Chrissy" episodes are my favorite, she was cute and sweet (nieve) at the time. Too bad what went on behind the scenes and too bad they wrote her (Suzanne's) character as a complete idiot by the time she left. The show was never the same without Chrissy/Suzanne for me.
Mr. Television 08-18-2012, 04:03 PM Yea I agree with just about everything you say. I never saw anything between Jack & Janet. There was something between Jack & Chrissy during the early years though and it was more than just lust. lol By the time Chrissy left they had turned her into practically a child. I hated that and I didn't find that sexy at all. Early Chrissy...wow though. :faint: I think in the end it was better though. I think TC worked best when they were all just friends. They were like a family and I don't think I would have liked any of them to get paired off.
Mr. Television 08-18-2012, 04:11 PM thing I think Janet actually said it herself when she spoke to Teri. If 1/3' of the three of us had some going on with another third of the three of us...it could get sticky for the other third of the three of us....or something like that. I wish I could remember the exact quote. So Janet agrees with me.

I am so glad that someone can see what I see! I thought I was watching a different show then everyone else:lol: I always feel a brother/sister vibe with Jack and Janet, no romance.
I agree with what you say about Chrissy what they did to her is a real shame. In the begining, she was simply innocent and sweet by the end of her run she was obnoxious with that snorting laugh they wrote in for her.I agree also, at the start Chrissy/Suzanne was very pretty/sexy and natural but at the end..well again it's just a shame.
I can see what you mean about them all remaining "just friends." I mean Friends Ross and Rachel became insufferable for me because they dragged out their on/off romance for so long (10 years!) On the other hand, I would have liked to see Jack and Chrissy at least have a kiss:)

Ha ha:lol:  Well, there we go then, if Janet said it then it is so!;)
Is that the episode where Terri falls in love with Jack because he reminds her of an old boyfriend (of hers?)

No it was the episode when Teri first moved in and Larry told her that Jack had been dumped by a girlfriend and she should try to be extra nice to him. I had forgotten about what Janet said until now.

That's what I always thought. they were like brother and sister. Of course there was love there but not that kind of love. I never saw either one get jealous when the other went out on a date....at least a normal date...not with someone who everyone knew was bad news.
Chrissy in the beginning was sweet and a little naive. Her logic would make you scratch your head sometimes but she wasn't an idiot. The way they wrote her in the later years, I don't know how she could be a good secretary. She could barely function.
janet42 08-18-2012, 05:49 PM I saw the chemistry too between Jack and Chrissy the first 2 seasons. I thought it was just me. :)

Thank you!!;)
I just watched the first two episodes of the show and you can clearly see Jack and Chrissy are mutually attracted to one another. Janet has to tell Chrissy to "be careful" and she says she doesn't think Jack moving in with them is a good idea because she is worried Chrissy won't be able to resist Jack. They both (Janet and Chrissy) seem to think he is cute in the begining but it's clearly Chrissy that Jack is taken with. I wish they would have explored a Jack/Chrissy romance just a little more.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-19-2012, 02:32 AM It was absolutely just lust with Jack and Chrissy. He had a thing for her early on, but it seemed to eventually go away. I don't buy that it was anything more than that. After awhile it was more like a father looking after a child.
Nothing about a relationship between them is exciting or entertaining to me. Maybe that's my thing. It would have been the typical..well, she's the hot blonde so let's make her Jack's leading lady instead of Janet. And I think that's very much why it was written that way. In the British original Jack was always flirting with Janet. The majority of the storylines they gave Chrissy in America were given to Janet in England (see: Alone Together). Kind of infuriates me that they switched it up that way. But the chemistry between Jack and Janet is astounding even without those storylines. I feel sorry for people who don't see it that way because it's quite wonderful, but to each their own. :)

It makes sense that you would see things as you say because you are a Jack and Janet fan. You wanted them together romantically am I right? To each their own but I didn't feel any "astounding" chemistry between Jack and Janet at any point during the series. They had them go out on a date in one episode and they couldn't even kiss. Again, I see Jack/Janet as a brother/sister.
As for Chrissy, her character became undeniably, ridiculously dumb. I thin.k the way Jack and Janet treated her in later seasons was demeaning at best. In the beginning though, there were sparks between Jack and Chrissy. I'm not debating if those sparks were simply lust or not, just saying I liked the idea of Jack and Chrissy and I liked Chrissy, thought she was cute (at the start of the show that is.)

Yes there is and it's only in season 1. After season 1 it kind of fades away and Janet always did a good job of interfering because she saw the chemistry too:lol:

Ha ha! Yes, I notice that Janet kind of got between them (remember the episode where she "Janet" spends the night at Mrs. Roper's? She is so afraid something will happen between Jack and Chrissy. ) I kinda wish it had, at least they could have teased it a bit longer and yes, I did notice that after the first season the attraction was never brought up again. I would have liked a little kissy with Chrissy for Jack..okay that was really bad ha ha!

Jack lost interest once he saw how ditzy Chrissy was as time went on

Such a shame they turned her into such a ditz (with that God-awful snort!) She just wasn't the same. At the start she was just innocent and kind of sweet and charming. The writers went way too far with the "dumb blond" angle didn't they?

Yes because she got to the point where she was SPECIAL:lol:
It's surprising she never got pregnant since she was so dumb

Exactly. Like a slapstick version of Donnie and Marie. I could never think about them as a romantic couple because I always felt they had a brother-sister type of relationship. Can you imagine Donnie and Marie dating? I can't. Jack and Janet had great comedic chemistry, but that was it. Even Joyce DeWitt didn't think Jack and Janet should have ended up together.

I think an episode about a possible relationship between Jack and Chrissy would have been interesting. Anything more than that and it would have been a whole other show. I remember Who's the Boss and when Tony and Angela finally hooked up after 7 years I was like "Who cares?".

Well Suzanne's Somers agent tried to get her to play VICKY on Three's a Crowd:lol:
Blanche&Rosefan 08-19-2012, 06:55 PM Yes special in that "Special bus" kinda special:lol: Seriously though, it's a shame they basically ruined her character. She was not dumb at the start, didn't anyone who was writing for her realize they were going too far? I for one, am sorry about all the drama that went on behind the scenes with Suzanne because I liked Chrissy and those first seasons of the show best.

Yeah in season 1 and the first half of season 2 the chrissy character was normal

lol no. I am a Jack and Janet fan because because I sensed what the people in this thread clearly do not. And like I said that's fine. To each their own. But yes I would have liked to have seen them end up together. Not during the show's run, but perhaps a storyline at the end. But I think you're looking at it differently from me. You're more interested in the obvious choice of Jack and Chrissy whereas I'm more interested in the dynamic between Jack and Janet. It was simply more entertaining and held my interest better. I root for the girls like Janet. I think it would have made more sense for Jack to be with someone like her who complimented him just right as opposed to Chrissy who was basically the type of girl he went out with on a regular basis but it never worked out.
But I don't know. Either you see it or you don't. I think the fact that so many people are interested in the Jack/Janet relationship has to stand for something. Nobody just pulled that out of the air.

It seems like whenever you have a lead man and woman starring in a show, a lot of fans want to get them together. More often then not it ruins the show. Moonlighting is another example. That was a great show until Maddie and David hooked up. After that it was ruined. WTB was another one. They should have married them on the last episode. With all that crap they made us watch before that, they wouldn't even do that for us.

I really like the way you explained why you would have liked to see Jack and Janet together. You are very respectful and it is not always that way on other message boards:)
I see what you're saying about Chrissy being the "obvious" choice and Janet sort of being the under dog, or the girl to root for. I think maybe it's me who sees things differently from everyone else. I see that on this message board and in the fan fic section there exists a huge fallowing for Janet and Jack. Any romantic chemistry between them really went right by me though, honestly. I remember one episode where Janet wants to be a dancer and has her hopes crushed by a full of himself dance instrutor. In the end Janet and Jack dance together and even when I watched the first time around, I always thought how sweet it was that Jack was acting as a protective brother toward Janet. I liked Chrissy for him because he was smitten with her at first and she him. At the start of the show, she really was cute and it would have been cute to see them develop a little more of a thing for each other though I wouldn't have wanted a Ross and Rachel scenario! That was way too drawn out for me! For the record, I never liked Vicky for Jack nor did I like Phillip with Janet. I didn't think there was any chemistry between either of those couplings. I am also in the minority here among the fans in that I didn't care for Terri all that much.

I absolutely agree. That's why I think it would have made a perfect ending. I hate when they rush into it right away in most shows now. It drives me insane because it takes away the whole point. It's like writing a book and putting the climax in the beginning. I'm very into the show "New Girl" and they're already making hints that two of the main characters are going to get together very soon and I'd just rather they didn't.

Glad you feel that way. :)
Well maybe in a way, yes, but I think what the show was doing was the obvious and that aspect bored me. But you see it one way and lots of people see it as another and that's fine...I guess (grits teeth ;)). I just do not like Chrissy for Jack at all. At all lol.
And omg, can we just talk about Ross and Rachel? I really enjoy Friends, but I absolutely HATE that story line and yet every Friends fan seems to be super into the whole Ross and Rachel thing. I found it so annoying. Shut up, both of you. And then the Joey thing at the end. Completely unnecessary. They did it better with Monica and Chandler (who, let's be honest, clearly modeled after Jack and Janet haha). Either way, Phoebe was my favorite. She was the only one never a part of any of that annoying stuff.
So now that I went off topic, agh. I love Terri. I love Chrissy and I love Terri in their own ways. I can't say that I prefer one over the other. I do like that Terri was her own person - not a Chrissy clone. If anything, it was Cindy I never cared for.
As for Vicky and Phillip, it seems to be the general consensus among Three's Company fans that they were the worst. I think that's one thing we can all agree on lol.

Since you're off topic already, I'll just add in my two cents - I've been watching Friends reruns lately - and say that Phoebe had the best line of possibily the entire series in the episode after Emma's birth and the weird Joey proposal/Ross non-proposal thing. Ross is clearly still mad at Rachel about it and Rachel asks Monica/Phoebe how long that will last.
Phoebe: I don't know, he got over the "we were on a break" stuff really quickly
