View Full Version : Which is more tolerable to you...
Brad Russ 08-07-2012, 04:37 AM The sweltering heat, or the bitter cold weather? I don't like either obviously, but my brother and I were discussing this the other day when the temperature got up to 102, and we both agreed, we prefer really cold weather, to really hot weather. I'd much rather live somewhere like Alaska than say, Florida. By really hot, I'm talking anywhere from 90 degrees and up, and by really cold, I'm talking 32 degrees and lower. It's alot easier to be warm in cold weather, then it is to get cool in hot weather. Put on a few sweaters, a heavy jacket, and a couple pairs of socks on each feet, and you can stay relatively warm, but you can't do that with the heat. Even if it were legal for you to chuck all your duds and go naked, in 90 degree heat and up, you will still be hot. It's far easier to combat the cold then it is the hot. Until they come up with air conditioned underwear, I think I will continue to prefer the cold. If you had to live in a place where it was bitter cold year round, or a place with scorching heat year round, which would you choose?
catlover79 08-07-2012, 04:40 AM The cold - but the bad thing about it here in Ohio is that we all have to shovel it out of our driveways and cars, and then have to drive in it.

That's definitely understandeable. Typically, here in Oregon we have pretty mild Winter's compared to what you guys get in the Midwest. We get lots of rain, but usually not much snow.
I have always been hot blooded, which is partially why I can't stand the heat. My ex use to always like getting right up next to me when she was cold. Not because she found me irresistable, but because in her words, getting close to me was like getting close to a radiator. lol She definitely wasn't very fond of me in the Summertime! ;)
ponytail 08-07-2012, 06:02 AM The heat. I'm miserable when I'm cold. I live in the desert. Today it will be 112. Now that is hot.
I have been to MN in the winter. No thanks. Too cold. I would get cabin fever in the winter. I don't care for snow.
*ROGER* 08-07-2012, 06:11 AM I much prefer the cold weather. I HATE summer. And I can't sleep in the miserable heat. I also get cranky.
OH Nuts! 08-07-2012, 07:33 AM I hate hot weather. Definitely the cold.
duckie 08-07-2012, 08:37 AM I'd have to cold weather right now, this heats killing me. I may give a different answer this winter when its 15 degeees outside with several inches of snow on the ground. lol
JamesG 08-07-2012, 08:54 AM I tolerate the cold better than the heat.
It's easier to stay warm than it is to keep cool (when you're outside).

That's the only part that I don't like about the winter. Other than that though, I definitely prefer the cold. I have a couple issues with breathing and the mixture of the allergies in the warm weather and the humidity gives me some problems sometimes.
I'm seriously thinking about moving from Ohio up to like Maine when I finish school. Alaska is a bit too much.
tiredmike59 08-07-2012, 12:19 PM I prefer the heat. I can work outside when I'm sweating but I can't do a damn thing when I start to shiver.
RoryGilmore 08-07-2012, 12:32 PM Cold. I can always add layers...only so many a girl can take off
robyrob 08-07-2012, 01:38 PM prefer the cold - can't handle the heat AT ALL.
Marvo301 08-07-2012, 01:42 PM Neither! I prefer moderate temperatures!
Zoneboy 08-07-2012, 01:51 PM prefer the cold - can't handle the heat AT ALL.
Likewise.
catlover79 08-07-2012, 02:28 PM Cold. I can always add layers...only so many a girl can take off
My sentiments exactly!!

I've been to MN and the Dakotas, too in Jan., one night it was -10(I know this because I passed a few banks those ones that flash the time and temperature) and they said on the radio it was -30 wind chill. As much as I hate summer anymore and the freaking heat, I'll take that over a -30 wind chill.
Also, one time was in N.Dakota in the winter, it was -15, a few days later, I was in FL and it was 75. It was then that I realized that is a 90 degree difference!!!

In NY state it's legal for women to go topless in public. I have only seen about two do it.
andress_jade 08-07-2012, 04:05 PM The heat. I prefer spring, where is neither to hot or too cold. I like it when it's moderate. I cannot stand the cold. I hate the cold. When I'm cold, I'm always cold, no matter how much layering I do. I can wear a shirt, a sweater, a hoodie, a coat, pants, socks, boots, a scarf, a hat and a hood and still be cold.
I hate winter, I hate snow. I have lived in Kansas my whole life and I still hate the cold. My dream is to live somewhere where it's warm all year round.
At least in the summer, I can get cooled off by going swimming or going somewhere where it's cool. I don't have a hard time cooling off but I have a hard time warming up. I'm one of the very few people that can still get cold in the summer. My husband will have the fan on him while we have the air conditioner on and I will be lying under layers of covers. I am very cold blooded.
I don't know how anyone can like the cold.
MickeyMac 08-07-2012, 06:15 PM I dont like the heat, but I would rather have that than the cold. I cant stand the snow, ice, slush and driving and dealing with it at all.
Penny Lane 08-07-2012, 06:54 PM give me a cold winter day anytime over 90+ degree weather! The older that I get the worse I can tolerate the heat. (hot flashes ya know):(
EmoJoe 08-08-2012, 01:57 AM It would be interesting to see if the results would differ any if this poll was taken in January instead of August.
*ROGER* 08-08-2012, 02:25 AM It would be interesting to see if the results would differ any if this poll was taken in January instead of August.
I know I wouldn't change my vote. I'd take a cold winter's day in January over this awful August heat any time. I've always felt that way.
hawkeye123 08-08-2012, 02:46 AM I like the cold anything over 75 is too hot. It's been in the high 90's here for 4 days even reached 100 one day. Where I live it's usally rain or snow.
KurtfromPitts 08-08-2012, 10:30 AM I prefer the cold. At least when you're inside you can get warm very easily. When it's hot however it's tough trying to get comfortable.
PZelda 08-08-2012, 11:12 AM Cold, fo' sho'. New England has nothing on the Midwest, as far as temperatures. They may be snow kings, but we Midwesterners have them beat in the temperature department. Only time we close school up here is if we get 18" of snow overnight or if the actual temperature is like -40F (has happened to me before! I live in North Dakota  ).
Hot weather... Blech. I can barely handle NYC summers, and I'm almost 27!! (not hot-flash age yet, lol)

Same here. The only plus about the hot weather is that you don't have to shovel anything!

OMG! Where do you live? near Mojave? I am like you. I live in New York and I don't care for the snow. I prefer the heat. Nothing to shovel and my car starts right up in the4 morning. Plus my power bill is much lower.
Brad Russ 08-08-2012, 09:06 PM It would be interesting to see if the results would differ any if this poll was taken in January instead of August.
That's a good point, and I'm sure the results would be a bit different, but not for me. I'm almost 31 years old, and have had plenty of time to be in both hot and cold weather, I definitely know which I prefer by now. That is an interesting point though. I may start a similar thread sometime in the middle of Winter.
Brad Russ 08-08-2012, 09:10 PM I like the cold anything over 75 is too hot. It's been in the high 90's here for 4 days even reached 100 one day. Where I live it's usally rain or snow.
Yeah, that Saturday was brutal. Made alot worse, considering it was our first triple digit degree day of the Summer. I think it just shocked most Oregonians systems. That was actually the day me and my bro had this conversation. I'm just thankful I don't live in the Sahara or something. Talk about major suckage!!
Vahan 08-08-2012, 09:11 PM I prefer the hot weather.
On a side-note, I live in the L.A. area in California, and honestly, speaking for myself, I don't think the weather there could get any better in terms of states in America.
Mr. Television 08-08-2012, 09:20 PM Give me the cold any day. I hate the heat. I grew up in NC and I can't count how many times we had to leave school early because we had no a/c. The heat just makes me miserable. lol
Schmoopie 08-09-2012, 12:21 AM I think I'd prefer the bitter cold although I HATE driving in ice and snow. So in that respect I'd rather it be blazing hot. But the heat tends to make me sick and like others said, you can always add blankets and so forth.
I tolerate cold better than heat, but don't really like extremes of either
Dude111 01-05-2025, 02:19 PM I would say COLD....
I have been wearing shorts everyday so far this winter..
To be honest putting clothes on makes me COLDER!!
Im naked right now :D
