View Full Version : The Warner Bros TV Library--why is it...
Jude The Obscure 08-04-2012, 10:20 PM that none of the retro networks have snapped up the rights to it? It seems we have seen Paramount, Universal and Sony's libraries been swapped over time amongst RTV, Me-TV and Antenna TV, but none of them have ever bother to buy the Warner library for their schedules. Do you think Warner wants too much money or is there another reason? I know basically that RTV is really out of the race in terms of competing with the other two who have emerged as the leaders in the OTA digital broadcasters--they seem to have the pull and funding sources to obtain the more lucrative programming.

Nice List,
LUNCH 08-06-2012, 01:18 PM I'm not sure, but I heard Warner Bros only or mainly wants to deal with cable channels, which of course is stupid on Warner Bros part.

Which means my chances are very low of seeing Alice and Welcome Back Kotter:(

The chances are low of seeing those shows and many other older WB shows on Me,Antenna-TV and so on.Unless Warner Bros changes their mind that is.It's unfortunate because Warner Bros has such a big library of classic shows, and I'm sure the retro stations would love to show some of them.Again though I'm not 100 percent sure about them only wanting to deal with cable stations,it's just something heard.

Which is why anyone with half a brain videotaped those shows when they had the chance years ago.
Regulus 08-07-2012, 11:36 AM Goodlife (Later American Life) ran several Warner Brothers Classic TV Series including 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, Surfside 6, Bourbon Street Beat, The FBI and The Gallent Men among others a few years ago.
bencasey 08-07-2012, 05:18 PM Too bad they didn't do anything with all of their sitcoms, like Hank, No Time For Sergeants, Mr. Roberts, The Little People and Room For One More.

Videotape them how if the show was rarely on cable or local syndication?
megamanj2004 08-08-2012, 01:32 AM I find it funny how they're holding out but the last time I saw any Warner shows outside of DVDs and cable was on MeTV (during the pre-nationally expanded MeTV days) and MeToo when they aired Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, The Adventures of Superman and Eight is Enough.
BigManMike 08-08-2012, 09:52 AM Actually, I remember Me Too in Chicago was airing Gilligan's Island not that long ago. They just changed their schedule about a month ago and its off the lineup now, but it was there before. I see they also took off Who's the Boss and One Day at a Time but they still have some other good shows. I just wish Me Too was national too.

WB has a made-to-order shop now and syndication is becoming more and more irrelevant.
