Before Ed O'Neill became the patriarch of the Pritchett/Dunphy clan on "Modern Family", the role was offered to Craig T. Nelson (who is now playing a grandpa on "Parenthood").

Nelson admitted to Access Hollywood that he turned down the role because the paycheck wasn't big enough.
