I think LM is one of the best TV actresses ever. And I've always heard she was a very nice person. I saw a recent interview of her on TV. Does anyone know what happened to her? Is she sick or was she in an automobile accident? Her face looked so deformed. I felt such pity for this talented, kind woman. Her eyes were as huge as saucers and her lips were very swollen and distended greattly. Her neck appeared to have many layers of skin on it. My six-year old walked into the room and screamed. He cried and asked what is wrong with that lady's face? I didn't know what to say so I told him not to worry, that it was a Halloween mask that she could wash off. Does anyone know what happened?

Nothing as far as I know. She did recently get divorced though.

Oh, thank God. Thanks for posting the picture. Maybe she WAS wearing a mask in the interview I saw. How old is she, though? I thought she was around Roseanne's age? I didn't realize she was older (although she doesn't look THAT much older). I'd place her in her mid to late 60's.

I'm sorry, but was 57 a typo? If not, then, well, I guess I am just speechless. She must have had a very hard life. I hope she finds some peace in her final years.

No, 57 was not a typo. And I'm sure these are not her final years. She could live another 35 years or so for all we know.

Oh no, not at all. It's just that in the picture that was posted, she didn't look like she had much time left. Maybe five years or so. But my goodness, it could be ten or more with all the advances of modern medicine. I wish her much peace and hope she has no discomfort when she goes. I hope she just goes quietly in her sleep with no pain or suffering. Like I said, she seems like a real nice lady.

I loved her on Roseanne too and also in that movie, Internal Affairs. I saw her years ago (before Roseanne) in a stage production of Balm in Gilead. She had a twenty minute dialogue that was beyond riveting. There are no words to describe her performanxe. I have honestly never seen anything like it before or since. She is the reason I started watching Roseanne. She played a prostitute (named Darlene ironically) and her character was so sad and hopeless and you just knew her life would never get any better. Anyway, like I said, I do hope she has a few good years left.

You are really weird and a bit of a drama queen. There is something not right with YOU, not Laurie Metcalf. The woman is only 57 years old. She is not dying either, but you talk as if she has terminal cancer. Why would you even say something as sick and stupid as " I hope she just goes quietly in her sleep with no pain or suffering." ? You are so over the top and strange. There is something seriously wrong with you thinking that she looks like she only has another five years left. She looks just fine....like a normal, average 57 year old.

Advances in modern medicine are only useful for those who have a need for it and Laurie doesn't look like she does. If you're going to hope that someone goes quietly in their sleep then it's probably best to do so if and when they're actually sick and are near that point.

Of course I wouldn't wish pain and suffering on her. That doesn't make me strange or weird. Why would I want her final moments to be scary and painful? And maybe I'm the only one who noticed it, but the look of strength and courage iin her eyes and smile was remarkable. I have nothing but respect for this woman and I hope all the best for her. She appears to be facing the future with strength and dignity.

^^^ Then just say that instead of wallowing and going on.

You wallow and go on and on like the woman is dying. Just stop it. Yes, it is very weird and strange.

You act as if the woman has been diagnosed with the plague or something. Just stop! Laurie looks completely fine and normal for a 57 year old. Not every woman gets the Lifestyle Lift, you know. Give the woman a break! Jeez!

Of course you must have thought that this thread was about someone's death because poster Ciji Dunne keeps talking as if the woman has a terminal illness. He/she thinks poor Laurie looks sickly and about 70 years of age. This stupid thread shouldn't even exist seeing as how it is ONLY Ciji Dunne who sees something wrong with Laurie. Laurie looks just fine in my opinion, and in everyone else's.

Ciji Dunne
07-09-2012, 09:38 AM
You're right. It is only my opinion. But her mass and tangle of deep, etched wrinkles worries me. I wish I had a magic eraser to take away some of the damage old age has ravaged upon her once lovely face. No one deserves what has happened to her. No one. Just try to imagine how that sweet, talented woman must feel every day when she turns to the mirror, hopefully, desperately even, hoping against hope that this time, this one time, things will be different. Imagine the wave of anguish she must experince. And sh seems to be facing it with such style, such class, such dignity.

Unfortunately, even plastic surgeons are not miracle workers. How would they even manauver their surgical instruments in and around the deep crevices and folds? The wrinkles are so profound they nearly obscure her features. I just don't know if it would be scientifically possible to help Laurie. But as long as there is life, there is hope. Perhaps one day soon the miracles of modern medicine can produce a cure to Laurie's terribly, terribly sad predicament.

You can't stop old age. Plastic surgery can sometimes do more harm then good. Look at Priscilla Presley. Laurie doesn't look bad for someone of her age.

Ciji Dunne

Oh, I don't want to start any rumors for Laurie. That is not my intention at all. Her acting has brought much joy into the lives of millions. I hope that is what she will be remembered for. And I hope Roseanne never forgets how Laurie always stood by her side. Remember, in the end, what we are remembered for is NOT our accomplishments. It is for the life we have led. From all accounts, Laurie has led a virteous life.. One that should never be forgotten. I hope that her children are there for her as the end draws near. I saw her in so many Steppenwolf productions and her performances always moved me. I hope.Zoey and Will hold her hand and soothe her with their presence. I am very sorry to see how the ravages of time have eroded her once-beautiful face. I am truly sorry that iMother Nature has been so unkind to her. But I truly believe she will only find peace and eternal beauty when God finally decides to take her home.

I have read a lot of this thread and while I DO agree that Laurie doesn't
look at all sickly, I must disagree that 57 isn't old. Over 50 is OLD. Over 60
is VERY OLD. Over 70 is EXTREMELY OLD and over 80. . .well just forget
about it. At that point it's "Thanks for the Memories". . .(That is if you
can remember ANYTHING at that point.)

They're are people out there over the age of 80 that have better memories than you or I. I should also start quaking in my boots, I'm almost 48 and by your expert analysis I'll qualify for old age in 2014 when I turn 50.

50 ain't old. Maybe 100 years ago, but no, I disagree that it's old - and this is coming from someone in his 20s! 60 isn't even all that old. I see a great deal of people in their 60s who are just as active and energetic as those in their 40s.

Late 60s? 70s? You have a point. 50, though? C'mon.

Mr. Television

I think age is just a number and it's how you feel that really matters. There are a lot of 50 and 60 year olds around my town. We have sidewalks and stores downtown and I always see them walking around. Some of them move pretty fast. There's a 60 something lady that jogs by my house every morning. She looks like she is in better shape then people half her age. I walk quite a bit myself. If you let yourself go then the age factor will catch up to you pretty fast but if you eat healthy and exercise then you should be alright.

Actually, I thought that Laurie aged a bit prematurely as well. So, I see where Ciji Dunne is coming from. When I saw her on a Save the children commercial, I thought she had aged some. Nothing against this wonderful, comedic actress. The recent pic posted doesn't look that bad. I thought it was going to be something grave but it was ok.

There's a big difference in aging prematurely and being at death's door. Sorry, but Ciji Dunne has done everything to convince us that Laurie is dying of some dreaded disease and practically every post contains statements about the time she has left. If anyone needs to be told to refrain from anything, it's Ciji Dunne and not us.

I would never order you to do that. I was saying to try. I don't have that power give orders. Not even as a moderator.

Reading through the posts, it just seemed like the negative comments just snowballed. I'm like, "Daaag". LOL. It doesn't seem like she meant disrespect to Laurie Metcalf. The snipping gets crazy at times on the boards is all. Trust me Charles(Z-boy), no disrespect to any of you because you are all adults (some co-mods) and I interact with all of you and have been for many years on this forum.

Now, I do think that "the end drawing near" is a little overboard and dramatic though, as I re read all of these posts. All I can say is know that we have all kinds of people on these boards and should try to deal accordingly. Overdramatizing is not the worst thing pushed on these boards as I reflect. So please don't take it like an order but as a suggestion. Like you, I'm a moderator.

Diffusing negativity is all I'm trying to do. This poor girl is probably thinking "Shoot! I think I really screwed up and I just started on this board!" She made an error. Let's give her a chance to redeem herself. ;)

Yep, Ciji Dunne talks like a total nut. She keeps rambling on and on and on in depressing, morbid detail about how Laurie looks decrepit and nearing death. It's wrong, it's tiresome, and it IS disrespectful to an actress who looks like an ordinary, HEALTHY 57 year old woman. The way Ciji Dunne talks, you would think Laurie is in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank by her side. Ciji Dunne is the one who needs to tone it down, not the rest of us. We are defending Laurie is all.
