In the 70's a black person being married to a white person was a big thing. (thats a no brainer). This was just after the civil rights movement, and the country was just beginning to intergrate. Prior to 1967 it was illegal for a black person to marry a white person (and the other way around too).

Grew up here in IL during that same time. We would VERY occasionally see an interracial couple when shopping out of town, usually in a somewhat larger city. But I never personally knew any interracial couples.

That's right! You are in Florida! Back in the 80's, I don't recall seeing too many interracial couples where we lived, dude. I'm from the Tampa area. I had ABC on channel 10 before it became 28 then ABC 7. In addition, I also had on the UHF station WWSB 40 ABC but it was snowy at times. LOL.

I'm so glad the word JEALOUSY is finally being used correctly to describe George Jefferson. The word was mis-used before to describe his bigotry, his temper and his racist views. Those were not examples of jealousy.

George was indeed JEALOUS of a chubby, nerdy looking bald white dude snagging a fox like Helen though. That is very accurate. It's certain that George had a little crush on Helen. He even told her so at one time. I think he said something like "you're the best looking woman I know at your age." Something like that.
