Interestingly, Green Acres and Petticoat Junction had alot of cast members live well into their '90's, but at the other end of the spectrum, were Barbara Pepper (Doris Ziffel), who died at age 54; Bea Benederet (Kate Bradley), 62; Merideth MacRae (Billie Jo Bradley), 56, and Eva Gabor (Lisa Douglas), at a relatively young 76. :(

Arnold The Pig (1964-72) The original Arnold is buried by Frank Inn, the animal trainer.

It's nice to know they're still together. I'm joking, but it is nice.

Yeah, I looked up Arnold the Pig, and the Find a Grave website mentioned this!

Wow! I didn't know that Barbara Pepper was only 54 when she died. What did she die from?

IMDB lists it as coronary thrombosis

I have a book called The Hooterville Handbook. Its actually about Green Acres and doesn't include Petticoat Junction, except for mentions of when PJ castmembers crossed over to GA. Anyways, the book explains that Ms. Pepper became ill, and missed much of filming during Season 3. She eventually returned toward the end of season 3, for a few episodes, looking gaunt and having lost weight. She passed away the next year in July, 1969. Fran Ryan played Doris Ziffel later on.

Hate to ask, but why didn't they eat Arnold? I guess it is hard to eat a family pet.

I know this does not strictly fall under the forum question but Eddie Albert lived to be 99 years old, but his oldest son, Edward Albert Jr., also a TV actor who was in a lot of stuff, died at age 55.

In a Petticoat Junction episode Fred said that Arnold's dad was the football that was used at the Rose Bowl.

Maybe Fred felt sorry for him?

I might add that actress Sharon Tate was nearly cast as Billie Jo Bradley as Petticoat Junction was beginning, and tragically she was murdered (years later) at a young age.

I remember Eddie died and with in a very short time son Ed died. Did Eddie and his wife Margo have other children or was Edward an only child?

This was an okay joke, but unless I'm mistaken, even though it's called the "pigskin": Pigs' skins were never actually used in the production of American footballs.

You were right, pretty gross, but here is some more info http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/829/why-is-a-football-called-a-pigskin

Smiley Burnette (Charlie Pratt) from Petticoat Junction/Green Acres from 1963-1967 died at age 56 from leukemia (I think). He dies while on the PJ series and recurring on GA.

Rufe Davis (Floyd Smoot) from Petticoat Junction/Green Acres from 1963-1968 and 1970. Passed away at age 66 which was four years after PJ left the air.

Eddie & Margo also had a daughter, Maria, who is, as far as I know, still living today.
