I am not completely closed to the idea of a higher being, or of accepting religion into my life again (except for chrisitianity). Buddhism (certain types) appeal to me, and I have been exploring it. However, it's not like it's something you just wake up and decide to be, obviously I need to think long and hard about it. Chocoholic 01-28-2002, 12:00 PM I'm a Christian, but if a person has a different belief, like atheism, that's perfectly fine with me. I'm not one of those religious fanatics who goes out to try and "save" everybody and says that anyone who doesn't live a total Christian lifestyle will rot in Hell. Meg07945 01-28-2002, 02:53 PM Um...I dunno. I've only been to church once, and that was with a friend. My parents don't go to church; neither do either sets of my grandparents. I'm not really sure about God or anything like that. Mossopp 01-28-2002, 03:10 PM I'm not religous but I do believe in some kind of higher power. I don't think that God is a big bearded dude sitting on a cloud. I think that 'God' is basically nature - the wind and the snow and the tides ect. Therefor I don't think that 'God' is good or evil but a mixture of both as nature can be beautiful and cruel. I don't believe that heaven and hell are actual physical places - I believe that heaven and hell are states of mind. It's a persons own right to believe in whatever they wish so I have absolutely no problem with Christians or any other religeion for that matter. What annoys me is when someone of a particular religeon takes it upon themselves to try'n convert everyone to their way of thinking. It really p#sses me off when I hear some Christians saying that something is wrong because God says so. That drives me nuts! Chocoholic 01-28-2002, 04:13 PM Originally posted by Mossopp It really p#sses me off when I hear some Christians saying that something is wrong because God says so. That drives me nuts! I hate that too. I wish some people would think with their brains instead of their Bibles. I'm tired of hearing people say that homosexuality is an abomination. I'm straight, but it still makes me sick. Jesus said to love thy neighbor, no matter what and I don't see how you can love someone and tell them that they'll burn in Hell at the same time. To me, that's very hypocritical and not what Christianity is about. Bootsy Whoosh 01-28-2002, 04:52 PM Originally posted by WingsFan I hate that too. I HATE it when people are like "I have NO problem with homosexuals" then proceed to tell them that their lifestyle is evil and that they are going to hell. Guess what?? You DO have a problem with homosexuals, so just have the damn balls to admit it!!! Kay Scarpetta 01-28-2002, 04:54 PM I seriously don't know what I am anymore. I'm a Catholic but um, I haven't gone to Church in.. *counts* forever. I forgot the last time I prayed, and I really never read the Bible. I'm thinking about just switching religions because I don't believe half of what Catholics say. We are studying Buddhism and Hinduism in school... they seem pretty interesting. I mean the central message of Buddhism is that all human suffering is caused by desires [or close along the lines] and to me, that makes a lot of sense. So, I really don't know what I am anymore. You are right about Buddhism. (don't know much about Hinduism). Another basic tenent of Buddhism is that you are in charge of your own destiny, not some invisible deity. Another thing that I particularly like about Buddhism is that it focuses on the here and now, instead of focusing all the attention on some supposed afterlife that no one can be sure exists. Yes... and all that about the Nirvana, and the Middle Way... everything just makes sense to me vienna waits 01-28-2002, 05:14 PM Well I'm a Christian I guess but I haven't been to church for two years and I've never been baptized. I dont really know a lot about religion so I'm not sure. I believe in God though and all that stuff. I dont agree with Atheists though because I dont understand how they cant believe in God and Heaven and all of that stuff. I mean do they think that once we die we live in the dirt for the rest of our lives? Bootsy Whoosh 01-28-2002, 05:27 PM Originally posted by Lisa Whelchel Forever Yes... and all that about the Nirvana, and the Middle Way... everything just makes sense to me lol, Karli, me and you should form the "bu-curious" club, lol. Ok, well maybe not, ) nancysbiggestfan 01-28-2002, 05:36 PM Originally posted by Bootsy Whoosh Another basic tenent of Buddhism is that you are in charge of your own destiny, not some invisible deity. I was just gonna point this thing out, I'm not saying that you didnt know it; and im not trying to cause trouble. But if you are saying the above statement in saying that God is in charge of your destiny and the person is. It is false. I realize that it is false to what I believe, but it is to many Christianity religions or denominations..w/e. I believe that God knows what is in your destiny but does not control it. He doesnt make you do anything. [QUOTE] Originally posted by Tootieismyfav I dont agree with Atheists though because I dont understand how they cant believe in God and Heaven and all of that stuff. But the choices God offers are "follow me and spend eternity in unending bliss" or "don't follow me and spend eternity in unimaginable suffering." To me, that doesn't constitute much of a choice. Also, if God knows what is in your destiny, that implies your fate is pre-ordained. Originally posted by nancysbiggestfan Yeah really. And how do they believe that we came to life? (Not to give any offense to any atheists here or anything..) I would say it's pretty safe to say that atheists believe in evolution/big bang. ILuvJoandBlair 01-28-2002, 08:36 PM I don't really have a religion. My parents raise me being a Christian, but to me Christianity tends to contridict its self, but then I believe there is a god, so I don't know what I am anymore. °Bubbly Blonde° 01-28-2002, 08:42 PM Originally posted by Bootsy Whoosh I agree. You DO have a problem with homosexuals, so just have the damn balls to admit it!!! Yeah, I agree. It's like, my parents are Baptist! I disagree with them so very much on homosexuality! One of my good friends is gay. He doesn't have sex, but he knows that he is. I don't try and "change" him. I just think that most Christians use the bible for their own benefits, like back in the 1800's they use to use some verses to say that African Americans are inferior, then in like the 20's they use to use it to say that it's a sin for women to work outside of the home, and to not comply to their husbands demands or whatever. Now it's homosexuals are evil. Im a liberal Protestant. I accept the TRUE meaning of the bible, which is compassion shown by Jesus. Not the bashing thing alot of "Christians" do. That's all I have to say. ks 01-28-2002, 08:51 PM I am a Christian. ks Max Whittaker 01-28-2002, 10:15 PM First,I don't like all these "titles" religion has acquired. Second, I was raised a Christian. I agree that it makes no sense to say you are Christian and yet, act like your religion is superior to all others and, in affect, act like you are superior. I believe it's wrong to treat homosexuals any differently than you would like to be treated. I mean, they can't help what they are any more than you can. And as for the people who hate Harry Potter because it has witchcraft, I can't fathom why that makes it any different from any other best selling book. It's only entertanment and it will not encourage mass crowds to turn to performing witchcraft in their back yard. I say, whether you believe in God or not you should let the other be. To each his/her own. gothic of darkness 01-28-2002, 11:54 PM I agree, Max. disturbed child 01-29-2002, 12:36 AM i don't even know what the hell i am. i believe in god, but that's it. i don't pray, i don't go to church, i'm not religious at all... i just believe in god, and that's it. nothing more. those christians who incorporate god into their everyday lives and think that the purpose of their existence is to serve the big guy really piss me off. sorry, but there's more to life than god. i have a family member who is extremely religious and she doesn't believe in television or wearing tanktops... she's pretty ****ed up in the head. i just wanna tell all those damn christian freaks to take their bibles and shove them up their asses. look at lisa whelchel... she homeschools her kids cuz she wants to shield them from all the bad things in the world and go against their peers to be god's servants. what the hell?! that's pretty messed up if u ask me. it's like christianity is a cult! freaky. AKA 01-29-2002, 06:25 AM Religion begins where logical thinking leaves off. I was raised on God, but I just don't buy it. Having eternal life is a nice concept, but it's just as logical as Zeus throwing lightning bolts off a mountaintop or Chuck Cunningham disappearing into nothingness. All religions were started to control the masses, or for other sinister purposes, and if you don't belive that, take a look at Scientology. Here's a religion followed by MANY fools who aren't bothered by the fact that the religion was started by a science fiction writer who wanted to evade taxes. Hmm. God (Lennon) God is a concept By which we measure Our pain I'll say it again God is a concept By which we measure Our pain I don't believe in magic I don't believe in I-Ching I don't believe in Bible I don't believe in Tarot I don't believe in Hitler I don't believe in Jesus I don't believe in Kennedy I don't believe in Buddha I don't believe in Mantra I don't believe in Gita I don't believe in Yoga I don't believe in kings I don't believe in Elvis I don't believe in Zimmerman I don't believe in Beatles I just believe in me Yoko and me And that's reality The dream is over What can I say? The dream is over Yesterday I was the dream weaver But now I'm reborn I was The Walrus But now I'm John And so, dear friends You'll just have to carry on The dream is over. I mean as much as I lerb Lisa Dearie, she needs to stop. Do you know how much her kids will be sheltered when they are older? God it sickens me. I feel so bad for her kids. I'd never want to be part of her family. I'd go to Church 2098503 times a day. And honest of God if I EVER do become a part of her family, as in marrying a certain kid of hers, I will never step foot in her Church. I'm sorry, but I just won't. That Church has REALLY messed her kids up. Everytime they do something wrong, they always bring it up with "A lesson from the Father" I know it's the right thing and all but Clancy, the youngest is what, 9? She knows more of the freakin Bible that my priest knows! You know NO OFFENCE TO DEVOUT CHRISTIANS or anyone of you Holy Rollers but Lisa just needs to.... to chill.
