Better than I expected, I just wish the cast had been credited in alphabetical order as the original series did.

it was well done!

They are off to a great start!

JR Ewing have NOT change one bit.

That's a good thing.

I haven't seen it yet - are the opening visuals and theme song pretty much the same (modernized, of course)?

Does anyone know why Omri Katz didn't reprise John Ross like he did in the 1996 TV movie?

It's probably because he's retired from acting and young people don't know who he is. I don't think he's done anything much since Eerie Indiana except for the JR Returns movie.

The opening was pretty good. They should have had the photos of the stars like they did in the old days though.

I agreed about the photos in the opening credits.

I was looking forward to it.

The theme song still give me chills!

I'm glad they using the theme song.

They seem to get offended when you call it a "reboot," lol. It's considered season 14 of Dallas. TNT has even been promoting it as "On the new season of Dallas..."

All the twists and turns, backstabbing and surprises (Lucy and Ray at the wedding!), the many references to the '80s show - All great! The writing was sharp. I have a feeling this new season is going to be even more campy and over the top than any other. I can't wait!

It's was great to see J.R. put on that old hat and deliver those great one-liners by the end of the first hour. Bobby has a sad storyline, and continues to be the most grounded character. I liked his dedication and promise to his Mama. His relationship with Annie seems like it will be the only positive one on this show. At least, I hope so. I'm not sure what's going on with Sue Ellen, is she some kind of Congresswoman? Her reunion with J.R. was a real bright spot.

John-Ross is pure evil, and will probably end up being my favorite character, lol. Christopher was alright, and it does seem like Jesse's acting has improved since his stint on Desperate Housewives, almost a decade ago. His wife...I just knew something was up with her and her "brother." The Cousin's/Elena storyline is sure to be this generation's main love triangle.

I thought it was well done. I can't wait for next week's show!

I know. The Dallas website took a lot of flack for replacing the old cast photo with the new one. They eventually moved it to another board. This is a sequel series but it is not the original series.

That's your opinion. When the network, executive producer, Patrick Duffy, and Linda Gray make it a point to point out that this is the "next season" and a continuation of their own show, I have no choice but to stick by that.

A continuation I have no problem with but calling it season 14 is redundant.

I don't. They also said they haven't been in these characters in 21 years when they were in the reunion movies. They're trying to reinvent history. I think they're all great but they're going by the company line. If the show is syndicated with the original episodes when all this is done then I might change my mind.

I seem to remember when The New WKRP in Cincinnati premiered. The Cast and crew said that it was the 5th season. There was original talk that the show would be syndicated with the classic version. After 2 lackluster years, the show ended. Other then a short run on one of the music channels, It hasn't been seen since.

I hope the new Dallas lasts a long time. It's great having it back but it's hard to compare it to the original show.

I'll have to wait for the DVDs to watch this as I do not have extended cable and online access is denied to me. I've read where the TV movies are disregarded totally in terms of being canonical in the Dallas storylines.

I enjoyed it pretty thoroughly myself. I liked the blend of the old and the new. John Ross is not the same as JR, he is less likable, but as long as you have the real JR then it is fine, I don't think there would be room for 2 of them. They all did fine but Brenda Strong really impressed me, she is a great talent as Ann. I think it has done a wonderful job bringing back the prime time soap formula, and I hope it continues to be successful as it's debut evidently was.

I will admit it seems the current creative team are not really familiar with the old show, it could use someone who really was into it and really knows it because it is missing a few trademarks. But throw in a few living room and breakfast scenes and I think it would be well on it's way to the old formula perfectly updated with a new, faster paced style as we are now having just 10 episode seasons.

The opening was as good as it could get for being so brief, we are lucky we have it at all when most shows have none. Cast pictures would have been too rushed, there was just enough time for all the classic Dallas images of the city, cattle, horses, oil and of course Southfork. Yes the inside is different but at least the classic outside remains the same, I mean that almost didn't happen so I am grateful.

Ray and Lucy had all too brief cameos, it would have probably been better to wait till they could actually have a mini-storyline. I say don't bring people back unless it organically fits the story. It sounds like Cliff's return will be a little better. I am happy with the big 3, really, since my favorites of the original were JR, Bobby, and Cliff. Yes there are a few others here and there that might be nice to see again but it is not something that has to happen.

I have said elsewhere that I personally do not care if Victoria Principal is involved or not. I thought the story was fine moving on without her, that is simply how tv shows go. At this point she has left showbiz behind and told everyone including Patrick Duffy that on several recent occasions. She considers Pam dead and just doesn't want to come back, so people need to realize that and stop begging for it, acting like she is being forced out or something. If she wanted to they would welcome her back; she just doesn't.

On the whole congrats to everyone involved, great show and just keep improving, things are looking positive.

Yea I know what you mean about Victoria. I'm also a member of the Ultimate Dallas board and I've read all the complaints from fans insisting that she was pushed out and all that. There's no evidence about that. Victoria wanted to leave and except for that reunion special many years ago hasn't had anything to do with Dallas. I was never a big Pam fan. I wouldn't mind if she came back. I didn't like the way the character ended and it would bring a lot of publicity but if she doesn't, I won't lose any sleep over it.

That, I do understand. But of course that will never happen with syndication. Perhaps there's just a lot of horn tooting going around, lol. Regardless, it is a continuation, and watching those first two episodes, it has possibility to be a damn good one. ;)

I thought this last episode was atrocious because they totally ruined and destroyed the Cliff Barnes character with no explanation how he had transformed from regular if vengeful guy into some kind of weird old mob boss, who had previously had a great relationship with his nephew. I don't begrudge Ken picking up a paycheck but it is pretty deplorable what they did if you ask me. Makes me think the only reason the other old cast were written decently is because they got to have some input creatively.

The last episode was brilliant! Thank you thank you to the brilliant Taylor Hamra who wrote it this week, may you take over the show! It was finally classic Dallas in every way-the characters were all great, Bobby was his old self, his stories with both his son and his wife were beautifully done, and John Ross finally rose to the task of acting like the likable villain who is brilliant and crafty-in other words, he is finally junior JR.

Well said! I wasn't sure if I was ever going to like the John Ross character, but he surprised me last night. I'm starting to believe he really does care for Elena.

The only problem I had with last night's episode was the cameo appearances (again) of Steve Kanaly and Charlene Tilton. They bring these originals back and only give them 1 line. It's not right. May as well not even have them on the show.

Other than that, great episode! Looking forward to seeing Bobby and JR go at it again. It will be like old times.

^ So true! If you'd have blinked, you would have missed Lucy & Ray. I don't know why they can't be in a few more scenes & have more lines. They could have used Ray in that scene where the cow gives birth. And Lucy could have came over & helped Ann pack up those boxes. What a waste of good talent.

I think this new writer also got JR perfectly like the original as well. Hagman has been great but previously I think they made him too overtly mean and nasty-this time he had that secretive way of doing it he always did, with more subtlety and scaring without having to say it or act crotchety. He laid down the gauntlet in that last scene, but it was still done in a much more classic way. It really made it evident to me this was someone who not only must have been a true fan of the old show but it also excellent at re-creating it.

The latest one was pretty good, a nice consistency from the last one and feels like the original show pretty well. The young folks are still not as interesting as their parents, but I think as long as the show feels like Dallas and half the time has these great vets then that is really pretty good, and just about the only way to continue the story like this while still making it true to itself. I think the writing is great now but I do feel a little like the new cast is a little limited-it seems like the best option is to keep them in that learning role for now, figuring out how to play the game from their parents. That allows the vets to stay front and center while playing their new roles as mentors as well.

Caught most of the marathan yesterday. Not a bad show. If they have Steve Kanaly and Charlene Tilton back, they really should give them more lines. They barely say anything, and they give Ken Kercheval a lot more lines.

This week was a great episode! Again this one was well-written, so whoever is in charge of the scripts at this point is genius. The twists were great and again it felt like the classic show. Sue Ellen was great, JR was great, Bobby was wonderful, and the emotion at the end was very real and very heartwarming. The grave scene was very good, and it was pretty good all around with continuity. Once again I enjoyed some nods to the past-Christopher's line about snakes was pretty similar to Cliff's classic one about vipers. Next week's looks pretty good too of course.

Gotta admit I am not a fan of the cliffhanger, making Cliff evil for starters. But the worst is ignoring the reunion movies, I just don't like that idea at all. I hope they figure out a way to rewrite it by making the daughter have had plastic surgery or something-it would be as simple as that to avoid this contradiction since they met this character in the first reunion film and now don't seem to know who she is. And it would bring back in a lot of fans who have bailed without convoluting anything-after all if it's already a complicated revenge plan then is plastic surgery to do it something that wouldn't fit into that? And it would allow Rebecca to have already met the Ewings and have her own personal reasons for doing this instead of just blindly following her Dad's orders.
