View Full Version : Anyone remember why jumptheshark.com was bought by Tvguide?
TVFactFan 06-11-2012, 03:18 AM This was one of the best TV sites on the internet and now when you try to go to the website it takes you right to Tvguide.com aka "Sh*tguide.com
Things just gets worst and worst on the internet and cable each year:mad:
robyrob 06-11-2012, 08:43 AM they couldn't STAND the fact that there was a tv-related website out there that they hadn't RUINED yet - same thing they did with TV Tome, the TVGuide version is complete crap.
old grouch 06-11-2012, 10:02 AM Jump the Shark used to be a lot of fun, and some of the reasons that people gave for shows jumping were pretty wild.
ajgenard 06-11-2012, 11:04 AM A website called "Bone the Fish" has picked up some of the slack since JTS was sold down the river. They have a page addressing JTS's sale to TV Guide with some details of the deal.

I missed TV Tome!
It was one of my favourite site.
Now, it is called TV.com.
No thanx!

You make me want to cancel my TVGuide subscription. Really pisses me off:mad:
And I used to love TVToMe back in 2002 and they f*cking ruined it
TVFactFan 06-11-2012, 01:21 PM TJ please don't sell this website to TVGuide or my life will be destroyed forever

Bonethefish.com is better
broadmoor 06-11-2012, 09:46 PM The original site was a fun place to visit and kill a little time. I used to check it quite often. But when TV Guide took it over, I found it cumbersome and difficult to navigate. After two or three efforts, I just gave up and never went back again.

Atleast the other site TV guide took over is still the same just has a different name from Tvtome.com and now is tv.com.
mets82 06-11-2012, 10:51 PM I agree. I used to go on TV Tome sometimes and thought it was good but now its crap. Same goes for tv.com. I guess the best resources now are wikipedia and of course, Sitcoms Online!!!
You talk about jumptheshark.com? What about what happened to the tv guide magazine? Remember how good it used to be when it was like a booklet? Now, its like any other magazine but now its 4 bucks and light as a feather.

TVtome is still the same with the same information it just has a different look
Retro4Life 06-11-2012, 11:03 PM Yeah, I loved TV Tome, too. I actually wrote episode reviews for NYPD Blue on it. When they folded, they offered to send me a file of all my reviews in case I wanted them. I accepted. Very cool.
Jump the Shark was a huge time waster/guilty pleasure for me. Spent HOURS at a time there. Very addictive. I was enraged when TV Guide bought it and ruined it!

I was the editor for CPO Sharkey but could no longer continue when TVGuide bought it because at the time I was connected to the web through "webtv" and once the new site address started I could no longer access the site
Yong Fang 06-12-2012, 01:08 AM What in the hell happened to Jump The Shark??? I want my website back!
It used to be an independent website with a complete directory and there would be thousands of comments and arguments on why a particular show went down the tubes and the catalyst thereof.
TV Guide seemed to have totally ruined it, and has more or less taken away a good website. Also, TV Guide's website royally sucks. I remember the magazine as a kid in the 1970's and they would run one or two stories besides the listings and it was sometimes an interesting read.
I think TV Guide bought the site and buried it.

TV guide gave the guy who created the site over a million dollars and after that he went to work on Howard Stern.:(
Skywalker 06-12-2012, 02:02 PM I used to be able to access the old JTS site by going to the internet archive. You can't even do that anymore thanks to TV Guide.
I hate TV Guide!
megamanj2004 06-15-2012, 03:07 PM I loved Jump the Shark up until TV Guide, aka Gemstar or whatever that company that owns TV Guide ruined that site and everything else they touch.
