I respectfully disagree on almost all points. But then again The Jeffersons just doesn't hold up for me and Three's Company is burnt out for me as well.

Maybe I will feel differently in July when I start watching MTM at 8pm. But based on season 1 it was not as good as Rhoda. Me-TV will be airing season 2 in July

As I have said before, season 1 of MTM is probably the weakest of all of them. Mary Tyler Moore is a superior show overall.
Mr. Television 06-10-2012, 03:43 PM Yea I like Rhoda but The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a better show overall. I like how you put as #2 about the Rhoda cast. I agree which is why I don't understand what the producers were doing later on. Maybe they couldn't have prevented Nancy Walker leaving for her own show but splitting Rhoda and Joe up and trying to remake the show as a Mary Tyler Moore clone didn't work.

I'm about to see now why the show bombed without David Groh and Nancy Walker.
OH Nuts! 06-10-2012, 04:08 PM Rhoda was a nice show but, IMHO, it pales in comparison to TMTMS. Nobody can top Mary as a lead character, not even Rhoda.

Even Mary was funnier on Rhoda because of the cast members-lol Carlton brought the funny out of Mary

Mary didn't need Carlton to be funny though.

Yup. Mary could do it all on her own. She was awesome.

She could turn the world on just with her smile. lol
TVFactFan 06-10-2012, 06:10 PM I will have to sample season 2 of MTM. Rhoda seemed to be the funnier one when they were together and maintained her humor when she got her own show
Adamantium 06-10-2012, 06:29 PM I prefer "Rhoda" to "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

finishing off season 2 and working my way to season 3. I'm still waiting for the POT HOLE during the series run. I guess it will be season 3

Why? I am just curious

Obviously, The Mary Tyler Moore Show is a classic series and Rhoda is just it's spin-off but maybe I have a thing for underdog shows. I like both shows, I just feel more connected to Rhoda.
As I think of it, I don't really have some simple straight answer about why I like one over the other. I know that I love the Brenda character and her relationship with Rhoda. I liked watching a married Rhoda and then when Rhoda and Joe were divorced, we went through something with her that we didn't go through with Mary Richards. I really cared about these characters - not that I didn't with the Mary characters, it just went a little deeper here.
I'm also a fan of Carlton the Doorman. It's funny to think that he would go on to voice Garfield and Peter Venkman in he 80s.

CARLTON IS THE SH^T!!!!!
Adamantium 06-10-2012, 10:19 PM CARLTON IS THE SH^T!!!!!
Yeah, he's hilarious. It's funny you never see him and yet I have this image of what I think he looks like (it's nothing like what the voice actor actually looked like) and the image is so clear, sometimes I forget I made up it up, lol.
Adamantium 06-10-2012, 10:25 PM Sol, in 1980, they made an animated pilot about Carlton, called "Carlton Your Doorman." It was never picked up but in the episode, Carlton is revealed to be a relatively young man with shoulder length blonde hair and a mustache.
Here's a link to the voice cast.

Yes, his interaction with Mary was the best so far-LOL
scotsguy 06-12-2012, 07:24 AM I love "Rhoda" but the first three seasons particularly,it lost direction in seasons 4 and 5 and the scripts were pretty weak in season5.
"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" script wise went from strength to strength,I totally agree season1 of TMTM is the weakest.
Rhoda,by having her split with Joe,got kinna heavy and the character of Rhoda was weakened, that storyline on season4 of Rhoda having to spend a night out by herself was kinna depressing, was suprised it was chosen as the best episode of season 4,on the 90s vhs "Best Of Rhoda".

What was the name of that season 4 ep? And that does seem depressing because I would never HANG with myself in public:lol: When I;m alone in public it's because I'm shopping for clothes, food, or DVD's. I would never be alone in a diner eating at a table in public.
scotsguy 06-12-2012, 03:17 PM Hi,its called "One Is A Number" on the vhs "Very Best Of Rhoda" too.

Don't tell me that you've never watched MTM???

Never had the opportunity, when TV land aired it I didn't have the channel. And since 2000, this is the first time I had the chance to watch it

I didn't watch N@N when MTM was on because that was in the mid 90's?
I do have Me-TV. I had it since April

MTM comes on MeTV.
TVFactFan 06-13-2012, 01:18 AM MTM comes on MeTV.
I know I haven't had a chance to watch it because it comes on at 8pm. A better time would be from 7pm to 8pm or 12am to 2am.
8pm to 12am I'm usually eating dinner, or chatting on the phone or doing whatever

Aww, Well to bad that you don't get FamilyNet because it comes on right around that time.

Comcast has added enough new channels since 2011 so I have no complaints
Rhoda was a nice show but, IMHO, it pales in comparison to TMTMS. Nobody can top Mary as a lead character, not even Rhoda.
To me Mary wasn't a strong lead. She was routinely overshadowed by Lou, Ted, Rhoda, Phyllis, and Sue Ann.
Rhoda is better than Mary Tyler Moore if you ask me because it was apolitical and wasn't trying to make any social commentary like MTM based on my observations.
It wasn't trying to change the world, it was just an apolitical and entertaining show. Rhoda was pure feel-good TV.
