medical school?

In the episode of "Call of the Wild" he decides he doesn't want to go to medical school because he has a issue charging SICK PEOPLE money. But that's his business and it wasn't like he was their real son.

Then you have stupid clair mad at Sondra because she didn't want to follow in her footsteps and become a lawyer

LOL. Give me Florida and James Evans over these two fools any day

Solomon, if you had a kid, would you not be upset if you spent hundreds of THOUSANDS of dollars on your daughter's education only to throw it away???

Well a college degree just shows that you are educated it doesn't lead to a job. It's all about who you know right?

Nowadays, its not even who you know anymore. That's how bad the job market is. It was a bit different in the 80's though.

It wasn't really an issue until Sondra said that she wasn't going to law school. That's what really set the bomb off. Elvin wasn't their son, but Sondra was "their baby" and they would bring down the wrath of God if their kids were making a foolish decision. It also happened with Denise when she dropped out of college and when she got married, it happened with theo when he wanted to move in with Justine, it happened with Vanessa when she snuck off to Baltimore and later when she got engaged to Dabnis.

I know, right? Afterall the money that they spent sending her to Princeton, mind you? They spent $79,---.52. And Claire "wants her money NOOOOW!"

And Cliff told Elvin that he thinks "it stinks, Palley!"

Well after I did my part in paying for her education it would be up to her what path she wanted to take.

Turn out that is what Sondra wanted to do to begin with and Elvin as well. The next season, Elvin decided to go back to medical school and episodes later, Sondra decided to go back to law school. Or should I say they decided to "go" to med and law school.

True, they did end up going to Medical School and Law School anyway later on. But I actually understand Cliff and Claire in that episode. They had spent a lot of money on Sondra's education, and she hadn't just gone to any college, but she had gone to freaking Princeton!

My issue was with cliff and clair not wanting sondra to deal with elvin because he didn't have their preferred career path.

I think that they cared about Elvin and they saw that he was wasting his potential, plus they didn't want their daughter to struggle since she was married the man. I would have said something too.

What are you talking about? Claire and Cliff never told Sandra who to date OR not to date Elvin. When Vanessa brought Dabnis home, they never told her not to date him or marry him.

Agree, I would rather have James and Florida as Parents then Cliff and Claire any day!! One of the many reasons I don't really like the Cosby show as much anymore because cliff and Claire are too unrealistic. I think James and Florida had a more Realistic Marriage then Cliff and Claire We are perfect Huxtables

Yeah just like the episode when Dabnis said he was the head of maintenance the huxtables didn't seem to thrilled with that.

In all honesty, what I do for a living is not my fiance's parents business anyway

When he said he wanted to open a wilderness store they looked down on his DREAM and felt that he wasn't good enough for Sondra since he wasn't going to medical school

But you didn't answer the question, When did they tell Sandra or When did they ever say that they didn't want her to marry Elvin?

And they were very supportive or Sandra and Elvin when they opened their Wilderness Store. They thought it was a crazy idea because they knew nothing about the Wilderness and they were already struggling.

I don't believe he got mad, did he Yell at Elvin? I must have missed it. I think he was disappointed that he was wasting the potential that Cliff KNEW Elvin had.

But in the end after Elvin saw the birth of his children he decided on his OWN to go to Medical School.

Claire was made out to be the perfect wife and mother. But what I saw was a nagging, hen pecking, nit-picking SHREW. I couldn't stand that woman. Cliff got on my nerves sometimes, too, but never as much as Claire. My favorite from the show was Vanessa.

When did Claire nag Elvin? Again no examples. Yours and Solomon's argument is falling to the wayside. Not once did they nag, fuss, harass Elvin or Sandra about their career paths. There isn't anything wrong with a parent being disappointed in ones decision, especially when it comes to their children.

I understand why they were upset. He didn't want to be a doctor, which led Sandra to also want to quit school after they spent all that money for her to go. She quits and all that money was wasted, plus what was she going to do? They were right to be concerned and to want her to finish college. She would have done much better off as a doctor. She ended up living in a very run down apartment with no room for the babies she was about to have, which wouldn't have been good for those kids either. It was up to him if he didn't want to be a doctor and disliked charging sick people money. But, it was also their daughter's life as well since they were married.

And, Claire didn't nag or bother Elvin about it. She sat down and discussed it with both him and Sandra to try and convence them to stay in college, but that was it. After that she pretty much let him do what he wanted. She didn't even nag him when he was working at the pet food factory or wanted to open a wilderness store that she thought would fail.

But Sondra was grown and married and Clair and Cliff could not control what career path she wanted to take or who she wanted to marry. If that was her choice then they had to deal with it.

But parents still have no control over who their daughter chose as a husband
