Picking up exactly where the first film left off, Halloween II follows the same ill-fated characters as they once again encounter the knife-wielding maniac they thought they had left for dead.

It seems the inhuman Michael Myers is still very much alive and out for more revenge as he stalks the deserted halls of the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. As he gets closer to his main target, Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) discovers the chilling mystery behind the crazed psychopath’s actions.

Written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, Halloween II is a spine-tingling dark ride into the scariest night of the year.

When a terrified toy salesman is mysteriously attacked and brought to the hospital, babbling and clutching the year’s most popular Halloween costume — an eerie pumpkin mask — Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) is thrust into a terrifying Halloween nightmare.

BREAKING NEWS!! Both the DVD and Blu-ray skus of Halloween II will now have a 2nd DVD disc that includes the rare Television version of H2 that many fans have been asking for.

This version is quite the trip if you've never seen it as it includes different edits of the film and original, deleted footage not seen in the theatrical version.

Director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist) pays affectionate tribute to various classic horror movies in this tale of two teenage couples who spend the night in a sleazy carnival funhouse.

On her first date with Buzz (Cooper Huckabee), Amy (Elizabeth Berridge) disobeys her father and goes to the carnival with Richie (Miles Chapin) and Liz (Largo Woodruff), but their first date may end up as their last.

After witnessing a murder, the four terrified teens are trapped in the maze of the funhouse and stalked by a real monster, a horribly deformed killer who lurks among the freakish exhibits to butcher them one by one.


Also stars Sylvia Miles and Kevin Conway (in three roles).

We Talk Halloween, Funhouse and More With Scream Factory

Halloween 2 & 3, TerrorVision, The Funhouse and other forgotten gems like Death Valley and The Island, these are all films that Cliff MacMillan holds near and dear to his heart.

Cliff is the one responsible for bringing us all of these great titles to DVD/Blu-ray through Shout! Factory's genre arm, Scream Factory and Cliff is the first to admit that he might be being a little bit selfish in his work.

But these titles are just the tip of the iceberg for what Scream Factory has in store for us. We grabbed a few minutes with Cliff to talk about Shout Factory's recent and future genre output.

Why did Scream Factory release their Halloween 2 Blu-ray so close to Universal's?

This kind of shows how long it takes sometimes to get deals done. When I had my original meeting with Universal, the first thing they said was that they were gonna do Halloween 2 themselves. So that shows just how long this deal took to get done, they hadn't even started when we sat down, and we said we'd still like to do the title. They even told us they were putting Terror in the Aisles on it and so forth.

We knew that they weren't going to do any special features so we thought it was still worthwhile to do the title because nobody has heard a lot of these people talking about the film before. It still seemed like a worthwhile title for us even though we knew they were going to be doing it.





Is this a new transfer for Halloween 2 or did you use the same elements as Universal?

We used their high definition transfer but we went back into the studio and cleaned up the dirt and the mix. Things people had mentioned (about the original release) because we knew we had to add a little something more to the release, especially the transfer.

There wasn't time to do a whole new Hi-Def transfer, I thought that their transfer was pretty good it just needed to be cleaned up a bit.





Can you talk a little about how you plan/choose bonus features?

I'm pretty big on the more the merrier so from the get go I just sit down with Micahel Felsher from Red Shirt Pictures and we try and figure a way that we're gonna attack the release. I've heard on forums and so forth people say, "well why didn't you put the extra footage from the TV version back in, and do a whole new cut of the movie?" It would be really expensive to do that and sometimes that material doesn't exist anymore.

I lucked out because I did ask Universal if they had the H2 TV cut because I fondly remember watching it and they came back and said no, we don't have any TV master. They said that they do have some sort of AMC master but they thought it was just the movie with the gore cut out and not the scenes added back in.

I said burn me a DVD so they sent it to me and I could tell right away it wasn't just that it was the original 1982 TV cut with the scenes added back in. So you know that was the only available master and we can't cut 4X3 material into 16X9 from that master it just wouldn't look good. I wouldn't even try that. Sometimes the fans are asking for things that just don't exist unfortunately.

You reach out to all the talent, I tried 2 routes to get to Jamie Lee Curtis and she just flat out wouldn't talk about it. John Carpenter wouldn't talk about the movie (H2), he only wants to talk about movies he directed which I understand, but it's still a shame.

We reached out to a lot of people, we tried really hard to get as many people as we can to talk about the film that are willing to do it.





I would've thought that with the resurgance of VHS that people would embrace the full frame TV version.

That's what I thought! Just as a consumer I would have been really excited to get that TV version but there were a lot of complaints!





New artwork is really popular now with the likes of Mondo out there, how are the fans reacting to your new designs?

Yeah, most of them want just the original artwork. We are getting some fans that love the new artwork but I think in most cases it's really about the original poster artwork.

It's funny you mention Mondo which was my inspiration for doing the new cover art, people say, "Oh, they're just copying arrow", well no, it wasn't where I got my inspiration, it was from my love of the Mondo designs.

I'm hearing they like the fact that they can flip the card around and have both.









With Halloween 3 did you know there was a built in audience or did you think you were taking a risk?

A lot of it is because I'm selfish (laughs) and I want to put them out because I love the movies but no, I knew that Halloween 3 had a real following so it was automatically on the list I had presented to Universal, hoping that they would liscence us some titles.

It's so under-rated, you almost want to take Halloween off the title and call it "Season of the Witch". Along with The Funhouse which I feel is really under-rated and is a great Tobe Hooper film.





As a bonus feature?

Yeah, it didn't amount to a whole lot of footage but it is good. And at least you get to see it. I think it might be 3 scenes. There's more with William Finely which is great, it's a shame they cut it out, but it's on there.





What else can we expect from The Funhouse?

The one thing I wanted to strive for was to get Tobe Hooper on there and I know Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs) was a good friend with Tobe so I asked Tim if he wanted to moderate a commentary and get Tobe to do The Funhouse and he was very excited. That I think is a great extra.

We tried to find the cast but a lot of the folks we couldn't get like Elizabeth Barrage or Cooper Huckabee, we tried but most of them just never responded to us.

But at the last minute we were able to get Kevin Conaway which was a big coup, he did a great interview.









How do you go about selecting titles?

I'm a huge horror fan so I do go out and look for things I grew up and loved but at the same time you have to find titles that are going to sell X amount of units.

On our Facebook page we hear people come up with some amazingly obscure titles and they need to realize this still is a business and we need to pick titles that will sell so we can stay in business.

Next year you'll see big titles that will help us to sell but also a lot of obscure titles and a lot of titles people have been asking for years and years.





How many releases a year should we expect?

2 - 3 a month starting in Feb. Around Halloween we may do a few more to keep the horror fans happy.





Can we expect any special edition packaging?

I'd really like to it's just so expensive, I'd love to do steelbooks, but you really have to do quite a few of them to get the price down low enough.

There is a box set for next Halloween, and I'm hoping to do some deluxe packaging for that, should be cool.

I looked more into it and it seems to be a rights issue.

The sequels are under Universal and Anchor Bay has the distribution rights to the original.

Releasing on 6/11 on a DVD & Blu-ray combo pack, this is the first time ever this crowd-pleasing exercise in the bizarre has been released on either format and in anamorphic widescreen from a new transfer.

Director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist) pays affectionate tribute to various classic horror movies in this tale of two teenage couples who spend the night in a sleazy carnival funhouse.

On her first date with Buzz (Cooper Huckabee), Amy (Elizabeth Berridge) disobeys her father and goes to the carnival with Richie (Miles Chapin) and Liz (Largo Woodruff), but their first date may end up as their last.

After witnessing a murder, the four terrified teens are trapped in the maze of the funhouse and stalked by a real monster, a horribly deformed killer who lurks among the freakish exhibits to butcher them one by one.

I don't own any, but I pre-ordered The Town That Dreaded Sundown.

Doh! That's right, I do have a few DVDs from Scorpion releasing including Humongous, and House On Sorority Row, both excellent releases. Humongous is probably one of the biggest improvements I've seen going from VHS to DVD, before you couldn't make out any dark/night time scenes, now you can see everything, plus the opening scene is no longer cut.

Olive Films is another newer release company that I've been impressed with, I have their release of The Boogens on Blu Ray and it looks and sounds fantastic.

Code Red is another one I like, but you have to be fast because their releases go out of print super quick. They've released films like Night Of The Demon (1980), Rituals, Don't Go In The Woods, Nightmare (1981).

I did buy Galaxina/The Crater Lake Monster Blu Ray double feature off of Amazon for about $4(including shipping), it was bare bones(they didn't even port over the audio commentary from the Galaxina DVD, thankfully I have the DVD, it's a great commentary), but the transfer on both were excellent. I was really amazed by the quality of The Crater Lake Monster.

That's a great price, especially for 2 movies.

1980's Schizoid (starring Klaus Kinski, Donna Wilkes, Christopher Lloyd and lots of scissor stabbings) is paired with 1982's X-Ray (also known as Hospital Massacre) starring Barbi Benton. If you're a fan of the mad killer sub-genre from this time period, you will definitely need this double bill for sure.

It was always our original intention to have new art commissioned for both (which would be consistent with our other "Collector's Edition" releases) but the studio asked to go with the original theatrical poster artwork on these films instead.

As much as this decision disappoints, we respect it and are still pleased that the original art will still be represented, but this time front and center. We hope you will be too.

Why do so many Blu-Ray releases of classic movies use horrid new artwork? What's wrong with just using the original artwork?

Why do so many Blu-Ray releases of classic movies use horrid new artwork? What's wrong with just using the original artwork?

I know some have reversible covers with the original artwork on the reverse side, but none of these new covers seem like a good selling point to me, they for the most part don't feel like film poster art, they feel like covers to crappy movie tie-in comics.

** IMPORTANT UPDATE **



We’re really sorry about the following news but, unfortunately, the ALL NIGHT HORROR MARATHON release has been delayed from its original 8/20 date and is being overhauled due to unforeseen legal issues on one of the films in the set - Schizoid (1971) – which now has to be removed.

The new street date is 10/8.

Shout! Factory To Release Director's Cut of Clive Barker's Nightbreed

Ever since the movie was originally released, Clive Barker has publicly longed for a restored directors cut of his horror movie Nightbreed.

Next year -- twenty-four years after the movie's original debut -- he'll finally get his wish, with Shout! Factory and Morgan Creek officially announcing today that a fully-restored, re-edited version of the movie will be released digitally and on DVD/Blu-ray in 2014.





"When I made the movie, the studio was not comfortable with [my] inversion of the classic structure," Barker -- who wrote and directed the adaptation of his own novella Cabal more than two decades ago, in which the monsters were the heroes of the piece.

"They wanted the monsters to be simple-minded scare machines, while I wanted them to be the dark side of all of us, mysterious and misunderstood. Finally, with this new version of Nightbreed, which contains over forty five minutes of previously unseen material, my original vision has been realized."





Today's official confirmation of the new version of the movie follows the unofficial news breaking during last month's San Diego Comic-Con. Shout! Factory will be responsible for next year's release, via its Scream Factory label.

The company's founders, Bob Emmer, Richard Foos and Garson Foos, said in a statement accompanying the announcement that they "are huge fans" of Barker and "look forward to working closely with Clive to bring his original vision to life."

We had originally intended to include the U.S. version of Witchfinder General, known as Conqueror Worm, but due to some unforeseen legal issues, we were told we would need to remove a scene from the film.

Since we felt the fans would have been unhappy that a scene was cut from the film, we decided to drop the U.S. version of the film instead of editing the film. Sorry guys, we tried.

This movie will scare the life out of you! Susan Jeremy (Barbi Benton) goes to a local hospital for a “routine examination.” Once inside, she discovers that someone doesn’t want her to check out…unless it’s in a body bag.

A psychotic killer keeps her trapped inside the hospital, having fixed her x-rays to make it look like she has a terminal illness. Meanwhile, he brutally murders everyone she comes in contact with!

As we mentioned earlier when we announced this release at Comic Con, made-for-TV films typically have had a history of not selling well (aside from some notable exceptions out there that have huge fan bases) so we are testing the waters here to see what happens.

If this performs well, we would love to tap into some other great televised favorites and bring to you a "Volume 2" in the future.

Two underrated gems - 1988's Bad Dreams (starring Jennifer Rubin) and 1982's Visiting Hours starring Michael Ironside and William Shatner - will be making their Blu-ray debuts as a double feature in early 2014.

Some of you may be aware that Shout! Factory released this double feature already on DVD in 2011 as a "Killer Double Feature". All the extras from that release will be ported over including new extras that are in the works for Visiting Hours (which had only TV spots and a still gallery at the time.)

No firm details to report on them at this time.

We're happy to report that we've gone back into our "vaults" and will be bringing the original 1982 Slumber Party Massacre film to Blu-ray for the first time in early 2014! This will be a brand new HD transfer taken from the original camera negative. We had many requests for this and we're pleased to be able to bring this into the Scream family.

As many of you know, we released this film on DVD back in 2010 along with Parts 2 & 3 as a part of a "Roger Corman's Cult Classics" collection. For several factors (mostly financial), we can only bring you the original at this time on Blu but if sales are solid, we will certainly consider 2 & 3 for the future.

Deadly Eyes?! Haha. I'll get this one as it's pure nostalgia for me, freaked me out when I saw it in the theater during it's release. But having watched it again over the years I appreciate it for it's cheese factor. The giant rats are made up Dachshunds.

Fans of early 80s school-themed horror films are in luck with this news. 1981's college campus slasher film Final Exam and 1982's satanic revenge epic Evilspeak (starring Clint Howard) will both be making their debuts on Blu-ray both for the first time this Summer!

These titles have been with Code Red - another long-time cult film home entertainment company - for some time and we are pleased that we were able to make a deal with them for these two guilty pleasures.

Expect the same extras that were on the prior Code Red DVD releases to be imported over. More details on street date and if any more extras are planned will be revealed in the new year.

The crocodile-chompin’- Betty-White-swearin’ film Lake Placid will be coming from us as a Collector’s Edition this Summer, which also marks its first time on Blu-ray!

Released in 1999 and directed by Steve Miner, this humorous take on the tried-and-true menacing reptile story stars Bridget Fonda, Bill Pullman and Oliver Platt.

Also notable, the film was written by famous TV Producer/Screenwriter David E. Kelley.



While we can’t provide a street date at this time, expect this to drop in Mid-Summer. Pre-order links should go up in sometime in April.

I love this cheesy flick. The rats are actually dachshunds made up to look like rats.
It did terrify me as a kid when I saw it on the big screen though.

The Upcoming Nightbreed Special Edition is not The Cabal Cut

Horror fans were treated to great news last summer when Scream Factory revealed it was at work on restoring Clive Barker's original vision of his 1990 directorial effort Nightbreed on Blu-ray.

The presumption was that this was going to be The Cabal Cut, a 160-minute cut of the creature feature that has been making the film festival and convention circuit rounds.



But that is not the case. In John Nicol's Fangoria #330 interview with Seraphim Films' Barker and Mark Miller, it has been revealed that Scream Factory's presentation will be a "Director's Cut" – which is likely why you haven't seen that "Cabal Cut" moniker bandied about when talking about Scream Factory's release.

The official release date has not been announced.







Here's what Miller had to say:

"I've seen footage that hasn't even made it into the version at the screenings. The story is all there. Clive's vision is complete. It's a thing of beauty. Shout! Factory is going to restore it with tender loving care.

The Cabal Cut was created by us in-house from the footage we found in the storage rooms. This 160-minute beast has every bit of Nightbreed footage we had access to incorporated into the cut. We put everything we found back in a) just to be able to say we'd seen that version and b) because we needed as much of the proverbial scultpor's rock to chip away from for what would become the finished masterwork: The Director's Cut.

More importantly, the VHS footage will be put through a high-definition digitization process to make certain that this is the best version of Nightbreed possible."

Our 2014 "Summer of Fear" release schedule is about to get even better with the following title reveal -- one which we're sure will please so many of you that have requested it. The long-lost 1983 slasher film The Final Terror is coming to Blu-ray & DVD for the first time ever!

As some of you already know, this killer-in-the-woods entry stars an eclectic group of stars including Rachel Ward (The Thorn Birds, Night School), Daryl Hannah (Blade Runner, Kill Bill), Adrian Zmed (Grease 2, Bachelor Party) and Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos).

We're aiming for a July release. No details on extras to report at this time but the key art you see here - adapted from the original theatrical key art - is final (no pun intended).

Synopsis: A young married couple in their new home begin to experience sinister forces and strange phenomena after an unfortunate miscarriage. As the events become more terrifying, they must race to uncover the secrets of the House in the Alley before they lose their sanity…and their lives.



This Vietnamese production broke box-office records in its country when it was released there and we're pleased to be bringing it to the states. No extras to report yet but we can confirm that we will have an English and Vietnamese audio tracks and that this will be a DVD only release.

(Sorry Blu fans, the costs didn't work out in this case.)
