View Full Version : Would It Have Made Sense to Create A Spin-off For Mike, Gloria And Joey?
Brian Damage 05-09-2012, 12:42 AM A Stivic spinoff, could it have worked without Archie and Edith?

MikeLutton 05-09-2012, 02:44 AM i think so would of lasted longer then Gloria did
Johnny be good! 05-12-2012, 08:41 AM It would have been cool.

Definitely, especially if it were set in 1990 or later, so they could focus on a conservative Joey clashing with his liberal parents!
Johnny be good! 05-21-2012, 02:10 PM Oh most definitely. I would have loved to see a show devoted to the Stivic's life on the West Coast.

Mike and Gloria, not joey. That would have been like another season 9 of all in the family when the bunkers took care of stephanie
OH Nuts! 05-22-2012, 05:34 PM I dunno. Suppose it would have been worth a shot. Me personally I thought Carroll & Jean were stellar - Rob Reiner & Sally Stuthers not so much. I would probably have gotten bored with this spinoff by the 3rd ep.
Dr. Thong 05-22-2012, 05:37 PM No, because Rob and Sally wanted to leave the show and move on to other things.
Johnny be good! 05-23-2012, 10:01 AM Well, a spin-off dedicated to the Stivic's on the West Coast would have been awesome. They still would have continued All in the Family. Besides, I liked Little Stephanie.
Mark Glicker 05-30-2012, 09:33 AM No. OConnor was the genius of that show.

Johnny be good! 06-03-2012, 11:23 AM If Carroll O'Connor had created a Stivic spin-off like this, it would definitely have worked. But Rob and Sally made the right decision leaving. They didn't want to be typecast.

Which didn't work out so well for Sally Struthers. A few years later, she was back playing Gloria in her own show and it was cancelled after one season. I think after that, she was most famous for the "Save The Children" commercials.
MurphyCarmichael 09-02-2012, 01:30 AM I think it would have been nice to see a show about Gloria and Mike's life after they moved and Joey grew up a bit. Although, it would have been odd to not have Archie or Edith, especially not having Archie and Mike's little arguments. Could have worked though.
TVFactFan 09-02-2012, 01:35 AM I thought it was stupid to have a spinoff centered around Gloria and Joey and no Mike
That's like seeing a spinoff with
Jenny and Jessica Jefferson and No Lionel
Johnny be good! 12-13-2012, 03:15 PM Very true. Besides, had a spin-off like this been created, I'm sure there were plenty of conservatives that could've clashed with Mike.
Cobain 02-06-2014, 02:27 PM It would have never worked. Mike's liberalism would have been overbearing for viewers. Also, with no Archie on the show Mike's character would have been exposed as a domineering husband who was intolerant of other's opinions. In some of the All in the Family shows in which Archie was not overly used it was apparent of the hypocrisy in Mike's character. I doubt the producers of this "proposed" show would want a liberal character like Mike to be exposed in this manner.

I didn't like the Gloria character or newborn babies/little kids on sitcoms so I definitely wouldn't have watched the show
Johnny be good! 10-25-2019, 02:18 PM To each their own.
