Basically, I want to start a list of American TV Shows released on DVD in other places(Regions 2,3 & 4) but not in the U.S.(Region 1). It amazes me how many American tv shows have been released in other countries, yet haven't been released in America. For instance, The Complete Series of Cybill is available in the U.K.(Region 2) and all we get in the U.S. is a best of set. Feel free to add to the list, there's no way I can list them all. I'm also going to include shows that have been released in the U.S. like ALF, which contains edited episodes in all the season sets and Happy Days Season 2 which suffers from music replacement, but are available in other countries unedited and with no music replacement.

Bewitched was released as a complete series in Japan, with new commentaries, including Erin Murphy.

Roseanne was released as a complete series in Germany, unedited episodes. Seasons 1, 8 & 9 are syndicated episodes here in the US.

What in the world is the explanation for this? This should be illegal! :mad:

add Married with Children season 4 (Germany) to that list, where all episodes were unedited, unlike the region 1 release, though it was only the german release, whereas all other region 2 releases (dutch, french etc) had edited episodes.
3rd Rock From The Sun seasons 1-2 were released unedited in the United Kingdom, where the two-part season 2 finale was presented in its original 50 (44 in r1) minute version, something that was (to my knowledge) not even included in the newly released Mill Creek season 2 sets where the remaining episodes are included.

L.A. Law is being released in the UK, and further seasons of Malcolm in the Middle are scheduled.

We need to contact the companies that own the rights to these shows! Why in the world would 2 Guys, A Girl & A Pizza Place and Automan be released in other countries and not in the US. :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

In the case of Little House On The Prairie, this series was released THREE times, first as individual sets, then the complete series twice!!! And to the best of my knowledge, they never replaced the cut & sped-up episodes with the first run shows. Now to find out all seasons of the series are complete and uncut in region 2!!!------:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

I believe season 3 of My Favorite Martian was released in Australia. I think My Fair Brady was also released in Australia but not here.

Out of This World was released as a "best of seasons 1+2" set in Germany. the theme song was altered and a lot of episodes were not included, but released nonetheless.

To date, the only DVD release of "Freddy's Nightmares" (1988-1990) is a Vol. 1 Region 2 DVD w/ the first three episodes.

Future volumes were scrapped after it didn't sell well.



Also, there is a Region 2 Vol. 3 release (Season 2) of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" (1976-1978)

Gimme A Break DVD releases

United States

Universal Studios Home Entertainment released a three-disc DVD of the complete first season of Gimme a Break! on February 14, 2006, available in the United States only. The Complete Series is now available in the US.

Canada

Visual Entertainment released the first two seasons of Gimme a Break!' on DVD in Canada between 2006-07. In 2009, VEI announced that they plan on releasing the entire series in a complete series box set in 2010.

VEI released Gimme a Break! The Complete Series on DVD in Canada on July 20, 2010.


I hoped they will release the rest of the seasons in the USA. I don't mean the box set. I already have the first season.

I believe season 3 of My Favorite Martian was released in Australia. I think My Fair Brady was also released in Australia but not here.

M.P.I. is eventually going to release season 3 of My Favorite Martian.

NYPD Blue Seasons 5 and 6 are available on DVD in Region 2. Seasons 7 and 8 will be released on February 25th. Seasons 9 and 10 will be released on March 25th. Seasons 11 and 12 come out on April 29th.

Oh how I wish Cybill, Dharma & Greg, and Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place would be released in the US.

I'm thinking about getting a region free DVD player just so I can watch 2 Guys and a Girl, season 2 of Dharma & Greg, and seasons 3 & 4 of Caroline and the City. I'd kill for the complete Cybill set but it's well over $500 on Amazon.

That's a good idea. I think I'll check that out. My player doesn't even play DVD-r discs, that are used for Sony and The WB's MOD releases, so I'm due for a new player anyhow. They do play on my portable player, however.

The Gimme a Break! Canadian complete series was a Region 1 release so U.S. DVD players would have no trouble playing it.

The DVD Region code is so film distributors can control what gets released, and for how much, on different parts of the globe.


You have Region Free releases
Region 1 is for U.S. and Canada
Region 2 is for most of Europe
Region 3 is Southeast Asia
... and so forth.

Well, at least one show, L.A. Law is finally being released on region 1.

Most DVD players, you can unlock the region code in about 30 seconds by hitting a few buttons. Just do a search for it on line with your model number. Thought everybody knew this.

I'm a fan of both Automan and Manimal- it's great to see both on DVD in Region 2. I just wish they'd get Region 1 releases as well.:) :cool:
(I also wonder if the Manimal DVD release contains the "Manimal" episode of Nightman- a later Glen Larson show that featured in that one episode the return of Simon MacCorkindale as Dr. Jonathan Chase! :cool:
