Benson (Robert Guillaume) confronts two new obstacles to maintaining order in the wacky household of the widowed Governor Gatling - Chief of Staff Clayton Endicott III (Rene Auberjonois) and Press Secretary Pete Downey (Ethan Phillips).

While working to fix the problems these two newcomers create in the executive mansion, Benson manages to foil a foreign plot to steal a priceless gold statue, help his chief nemesis Gretchen Kraus (Inga Swenson) gain citizenship, and withstand a siege by protesters who've encircled the governor's mansion.

And after he and Governor Gatling are caught by a muckraking press corps as they are helping an old friend who has taken ill in a bordello, the unexpected death of the State Budget Director leads to Benson being elevated to the post.

Actually, someone posted on Amazon that they received S2 from WB and there was an episode missing and they added the first two episodes from S3. Is that true? :eek3:

You would think they would know which episode is in season 2. I have contacted tvshowsondvd to find out if they will be a replace disk trade with those who have already purchased the season. Unreal. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate like hell the fact that they want to release this to fans like me who might not otherwise get a chance to own it, but if you're going to do it, do it right. How hard is it to pull up an episode guide and make sure you have it right, for crying out loud? I have seen at least three or four episode guides for Benson on the internet that are all correct, so it's not like the information isn't readily available.

Did you get any reply from them? I think they are going to start shipping these starting Tuesday and I really think they need to know they have made a mistake.

That's cool. Well hang onto those first two episodes from Season 3. I worry about not seeing further seasons, but then again, with MOD everything should be released.

I was looking for it two weeks before it's release but couldnt find it on WB shop. I looked again the end of that week and found it and ordered it. I know that Amazon takes forever to release WB demand releases. One in particular was Growing Pains movies DVD....I bought it from WB shop and a month had passed and still Amazon hadnt released it.

Any word on the replacement? I have been having terrible trouble getting a response about the missing episode, and was recently told they had no idea it was missing. Has anyone gotten a corrected set?

Bad...there are two episodes missing from season 2 which makes it incomplete

Good...You see two uncut episodes from a season that hasn't been released yet which lets you know it's a very good chance it will be

they probably won't start selling them again until AFTER they have fixed the problem and have replacements ready to ship

Have not received my replacement set. The timeframe of when I would be getting it has passed. I smell a rat...lol. I am going to have to call and find out what the hold up is. I wonder if amazon has shipped theirs?? They had a May 1 release date.

Well, now, we have received our review copy (look for our review soon), and can report that the set has improved.

The first episode of the season has been added to the beginning of Disc 1 on the "improved" version. Disc 3 is still the same, but it actually isn't a mistake that the episodes are out of order.

Apparently, airdate and production order was the same for all of the episodes on the first two discs, but for the episodes on Disc 3, those were aired in a different order than the order in which they were produced... so really, it isn't a mistake, but rather just confusion (although we think most fans do prefer airdate order).

And the first two episodes of the third season are still on the end of Disc 3, but that isn't exactly a bad thing, but rather a nice little accidental bonus.





The important thing here is that we do have all of the second season episodes in the set now.

We'll have a review of this "new and improved" set very soon.

So, what is the deal with Benson - The Complete Second Season?

I can see this happening with the Jeffersons if they ever release season 8 because of how 2 eps were recorded for a previous season by aired in season 8

Ok, so the out-of-order episodes thing wasn't a mistake. Personally I still don't understand why they would do that, even though in this case it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. But what if you had a situation where they filmed/produced the last episode of the season and it was a cliffhanger before some other episode right at the end, and they switched them due to production date, wouldn't it seem silly?

But hey, thanks for the bonus Season 3 eps. :D

Sounds like this is a direct connection to the writers strike at the start of 1980-81 which was season 2 of Benson
