If Rhoda made more than Mary, why did she have a much much smaller place than Mary?

Also, I noticed Rhoda had her own signature wall fixture like Mary's "M" on her wall that said "etc." I know etc stands for etcetera but did that have any other meaning to it?

Exactly, I think it might have made more sense if Mary and Rhoda became roommates. LOL

That would be more interesting.

BTW: Why does mary have a HUGE living room and her kitchen is the size of a closet?-lol

the idea was that the house was an old Victorian that had been divided up into 3 apartments, so sometimes the room sizes and arrangements are weird,

as for the size of Rhoda's apartment, she was there before mary, so maybe she just liked that apartment better despite the size, and as for her making morre, i think they established that Rhoda was terrible with money, whereas mary was much more responsible.

In the first episode, isn't there a big scene about how Mary's apartment was supposed to be Rhoda's. She had been living in the tiny one waiting for the bigger one to become available, but then Phyllis rented it out to Mary instead and Rhoda gets all ticked off until eventually she and Mary become friends. I haven't seen that episode in a long time, but I think that is the way it happened.

I was thinking the same thing: This was supposed to be a structure that was originally built as a single house, not as apartments with kitchens and bathrooms. So the room proportions wouldn't necessarily be logical as they would be in a building that was built specifically for apartments.

Very weird, it was disclosed that Mary made 257 bucks a week.

I missed that episode. Mary was a loyal girl though, almost to a fault.

I thought Mary's apartment was so cool. Cute and cozy! And Rhoda's too. The little attic room. Very hip and cool! I LOVE old big homes converted into apartments!

Thank you for welcoming me TV Fact Fan! I was a regular on another message forum (It wasn't a TV forum though) lately there were more trolls and bullies than nice people! I got fed up with it, and was checking around for other message forums. I always loved old TV shows, I'm a big fan of Me TV and Antenna TV , so I ended up here. Seems really nice here. A few people already replied to my posts and they were all very nice.

That's right! iirc the first time we see Rhoda she's on the balcony washing the windows of what ends up being Mary's apartment. Rhoda insists it's her apartment and even tries to con Mary into thinking she carpeted the place or something, until Phyllis says the place came carpeted.

Hi KatieAnn, When Mary and Phyllis saw Rhoda out on the balcony, didn't Phyllis close the curtains and say something like" Oh that is that crazy Rhoda from upstairs, don't pay any attention to her" Or something like that. It's been a while since I have seen it.

It is fun here! I am old school. I'm not really much into social networking besides posting on message forums . :) I do like to Email, which seems to be going out of style now too!

I am trying to post a profile/avatar picture, but something I am doing isn't right? I tried a couple different pics and they just won't post!

When you try to upload a photo, check its size. For your avatar, it can't be more than 150 pixels high or wide.

I haven't seen that one in a while, but I think she says "Oh, that's just that crazy girl from New York."

Hi. :) It's been a while for me too. I do think Phyllis closed the curtains and said something to that effect, and Bess said something nice or at least positive about Rhoda to Mary.
