I just came across this 1979 article stating that a Mary Tyler Moore sitcom was being planned to debut in the fall of 1980, after the cancellation of her two short-lived variety shows. This is the first I ever heard about that. I wonder what happened with those plans?

Yeah, I wonder too. I am guessing that she raised the bar so high on TMTMS, that she never was able to re-achieve that success on TV again.

That was about the time that she was oscar nominated for Ordinary People. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Perhaps, but she never had success on TV again after that.

She did, but it didn't last long at all.

Just be patient through the 1st season, because like a fine wine...it gets better as it gets older. LOL

Hey Sol, I have a pen and paper handy to write down guest stars, people that seem familiar and check them out on IMDB.com after the episode. Do you do that?

I usually go to tv.com to see if I can pickup on anything and yes I may go to IMDB if I notice a certain guest star

Yeah, I've heard bad things about it too, but for continuation purposes, I am a bit curious.

Unfortunately, the marathon tomorrow is only episodes from the first season. The first season was the weakest of the series, which is why I never bought the DVD set for S1. I do have all the other seasons, though. The show really blossomed after the first two seasons. Seasons 3-7 are the best.

It was rather boring and humorless.

I'd probably check it out if it had some of the other cast in it or at least mentioned them.

The episode on right now "Keep Your Guard Up," about the ex-football player, you might want to sit out. IMO, it's the worst episode of the series.

I recorded that ep and will watch it later because I had to step away from the marathon for a second.
