This is my first fan fic. It hasnt really gotten anywhere yet but it will.:D Enjoy!:D


Its a sunny day in San Francisco. Jinny and Magda are at their desks looking over some papers. CD and Nate are discussing a case. And Captain Kaitlyn McCafferty is awaiting the arrival of her sister Elizabeth, her brother-in-law Carlos, and her young niece Melissa. Kate is going to have her niece, whom she's never met, stay with her, while Melissa's parents go on a vacation to re-kindle their relationship.

***THE DIVISION 9:35 a.m.***

~Kate anxiously waits in her office, while the inspectors review their cases.~
~ A middle-aged couple and their teenaged daughter enter The Division~

"Hello, my name is Elizabeth Perez, this is my husband Carlos and my daughter Melissa. I am looking for Kaitlyn McCafferty. I am her sister" the woman says to Jinny. "Hi, I'm inspector Extead and these are Inspectors Ramirez, DeLorenzo, and Basso." says Jinny.
All the inspectors greet the couple and their daughter. "The Captain's office is right over there" Jinny says as she motions to the office. "Thank you" says Elizabeth. As they enter the office, Kate smiles and stands up. She gives her sister as well as her brother-in-law a hug. Melissa, Kate's niece, however is hiding behind her father.
"I see you're a little shy there" Kate says smiling. "Don't be shy Mel" Elizabeth says. "Eh, she'll get over it. She has to stay with me for a week anyway." says Kate. "Well, we'd better go Liz. Its been nice seeing you agin Kate. Sorry its so short" says Carlos. With a sad look on her face, Melissa gives each of her parents a hug and a kiss goodbye. "I love you guys" Melissa says. "We love you too. Don't be sad. We'll be back in a week. It's ok." says her mother. "Be careful guys. I love you" says Melissa.
Carlos, Elizabeth, and Kate all exchange hugs. Melissa gives her parents one last hug and kiss goodbye and again says "I love you."
Melissa's parents leave the division and she is left with her Aunt Kate and all of her luggage.
"Hey, Melissa, C'mon. I want to introduce you to some people here." Melissa follows Kate to where everyone is seated. "These are inspectors Extead, Ramirez, DeLorenzo, Basso and officer Washington. "Um..hi" Melissa says looking toward the ground. All the inspectors greet her and do their best to make her feel welcome.

***15 MINUTES LATER***

~Charles enters the division. Magda and Jinny have left to investigate a double homicide. Nate and CD are discussing their case. Raina is making a few phone calls concerning the double homicide that Magda and Jinny are investigating. Kate is doing some paper work and Melissa is quietly sitting in the corner of Kate's office. Charles enters Kate's office.
"Good morning Kate. I wanted to go over some...." Charles trails off and is looking straight at Melissa. "Uh...Kate?" Charles says motioning Kate to step outside for a moment.
"Yes Charles?" Kate says. "I'd like to know who that young lady is and why she is here in your office." Charles says sternly. "Well, she's my niece. I'm taking her while her parents go on vacation. I'm taking her back to my house on my lunch break. Ok?" Kate says. "Yeah, Ok Kate. I guess we'll talk later." Charles says. Charles begins to walk away. "Oh Charles, and another thing." kate says. Charles turns around and looks at Kate. "Yes Kate?" he says. "This is my office and i'll have whoever I please in it. Got it?" Kate says with a hard look on her face. "Ahem!...Yes Kate" Charles says looking a bit nervous and then walks away. Kate returns to her office and sits down.

***THE DIVISION: 3 HOURS LATER 12:50p.m.***

Melissa is seated in the same spot she's been in for the past three hours listening to music. Kate is finishing up some paper work. Kate checks her watch and looks at Melissa. "Ready?" Kate asks. "Uh...I...uh...guess so" Melissa replies . Melissa then grabs her luggage and follows Kate out of the Division.

***KATE AND MELISSA IN THE CAR***
"So, how old are you?" Kate asks. "Eleven. I'm gonna be twelve." Melissa answers in a soft, low voice. "Oh, I see. Y'know, you look just like your father. Your father is Puerto Rican right?" Kate says. "Yeah." Melissa answers back. "Magda, at the Division, is Puerto Rican. Your father...does he teach you Spanish at all?" Kate asks. "Nope. My father hasn't taught me any kind of Spanish, but I do like Spanish music and I'm learning Spanish in school." Melissa says. Well, thats good. How are you doing in Spanish?" Kate asks. "I do fine" Melissa answers. "Do you have a good teacher?" Kate asks.
~~Melissa starts looking extremely uncomfortable at this point in their conversation. She mumbles someting about her Spanish taecher and the conversation progresses along.~~
"So, how do you like living in New York? I used to live there, y'know." Kate says. "New York is fine. I'm missing it right now though." Melissa answers. Kate chuckles a bit and says "Yeah, well, you're only here for a week, so try not to get too upset. Ok?"

I know this fan fic started off really really slow but itll get somewhere soon. i just have to figure out how to put it in words. k?

OK. Here's another part of the story:

***KATE'S HOUSE***

~~Kate and Melissa enter the house. Its a nice house. Melissa puts her luggage down and takes a look around. Kate motions Melissa to follow her. Kate takes her to the spare room next to hers.~~
Kate: This is where you'll be staying.
Melissa: OK
Kate:The bed has fresh sheets and everything. I'm glad you're staying with me. Its about time we got the chance to meet.
~~Melissa grins. Kate puts her arm around her but Melissa pulls away as if she is uncomfortable. Kate knows why, but she doesn't think its the right time to address the issue.~~
Kate: Are you ok staying here by yourself?
Melissa: Yeah, I'm fine...uh..Aunt..K-Kate.
Kate: Its ok. You can call me Aunt Kate or Kate or Captain. (giggles). Whatever you feel comfortable with.
~Kate gives Melissa a smile. Melissa smiles back.
Kate: Well, I'm headed back to work. I'll see you tonight. I'll bring dinner home. And call me if you need anything. The number is by the phone.
Melissa: Ok. Thanks
~~Kate leaves for work and Melissa is left alone in the house. Melissa snoops around a bit and then sits down in the living room to watch T.V.~~

***KATE'S HOUSE 8:00p.m.***

~Kate enters the house. Melissa is sitting on the floor watching t.v.~
Kate: Hi Melissa, how was your day?
Melissa: Eh, it was ok. I sat here all day watching t.v.
Kate: Yeah, I know what you're trying to say. I know my house is boring. You don't have to tell me.
Melissa: I never said that! You're puttin' words in my mouth. Geez!
Kate: No I'm not Melissa. But I know thats what you were thinking. (chuckles)
~Melissa sighs~
Kate: Well I brought dinner home. Some burgers and fries. Want some?
Melissa: Sure. But its not the healthiest thing in the world to be eating Aunt Kate.
Kate: I know but it was a quick thing.
Melissa: Yep(sarcastically)
Kate: What? Why are you being so sarcastic?
Melissa: Would you look at me Aunt Kate! I'm not the skinniest person in the world, y'know!
Kate: Well, neither am I! OK?
Melissa: Yeah, well, when you weigh 160lbs and you're trying to lose weight, you can't exactly afford to be eating burgers and fries!
Kate: Ok. Calm down. Just calm down. I know that your weight gets you down sometimes and I know its a serious issue for you, but you have to calm down sweetie.
Melissa: How did you know that?
Kate: Your mother told me.
Melissa:What else do you know? Oh God, I hope you don't know about...
~Kate interrupts her~
Kate: I'm not going to tell you what else I know. When the time comes, then I'll address the issue.
~~Kate and Melissa didnt talk while they ate dinner. They occasionally glanced at eachother but that was about it. After dinner, Kate takes a shower and Melissa is again left alone. She sat there on the couch and thought about what Kate might know about her past.
She thought: 'Oh God. She can't know. Its impossible. I know mom knows about it because it was pretty obvious. But would mom tell Aunt Kate?

***LATER THAT NIGHT 12:25a.m***

~~Melissa went to sleep. Kate was in the living room, on the couch going over some papers. The phone then rings.~~

Kate: Hello?...Oh my God. No! No that can't be. Oh God. (crying) When did this happen?....Oh. Oh God...What am I going to do?....Well, thank you for letting me know. OK. Bye Bye.

~~Kate sits down on the couch and tries to calm down. She thinks for a little bit.~~

She thought: I can't believe this happened. What am I going to tell her? HOW am I going to tell her?

~~Kate sighs. She gets up from the couch and heads towards the spare room in which Melissa is sleeping. Kate sits down on the bed and looks at Melissa sleeping. Kate starts stroking Melissa's face and hair. She gives Melissa a kiss on the cheek, trying to wake her. Melissa opens her eyes and looks at Kate. When Kate looks at Melissa, a feeling of hurt takes over her body, but Kate holds in her tears.~~

Kate: Hi Sweetie.
Melissa: Hi
Kate: How are you doing? How are you feeling?
Melissa: I'm fine
Kate: Uh, sweetie...I have to tell you something.
Melissa: What? What is it?

~Kate pauses. She looks hurt. She looks into Melissa's eyes.~

Kate: Honey, I just got a call from the airport. A plane crashed. Apparently it was your parents' flight. There are no survivors.

~~As Kate's words penetrated Melissa's ears, she began to sob. She put her head in her hands and just cried hysterically. Kate did her best to comfort her, but had never really been good at that.~~

Kate: Its going to be ok, honey.
Melissa: How can you say that?
Kate: Because I know it will be ok. I know its hard for you. Its hard for me too and I know we just met but we have to do our best to comfort eachother and be there for eachother.
Melissa: Why does everything always happen to me? I'm always the one who gets hurt.
Kate: Your situation could be worse.
Melissa: What are you talking about? My parents died and I'm stuck here with you! How could my situation be any worse?
Kate: You could've died too! Or you might have not had a place to stay! And who said you were stuck here? Noboday said I was going to.....keep you.

~Kate starts crying hysterically. Melissa is doing the same. Kate looks at her young niece crying and hurting. She begins to feel guilty.~

Kate: I'm sorry. I don't know why I said that.
Melissa: I don't care anymore. You can say whatever you want. Its not like you care about me.
Kate: Don't you ever say that!
Melissa: Why not? You don't know me. You couldn't possobly care about me.
Kate: That isn't true. I've cared about you since you were born.
Melissa: What do you mean 'since i was born'? You didn't even live in New York when I was born. You lived here.
Kate: Yes thats true, but when I found out that your mother was pregnant, I flew to New York to be with her. I was so excited for your parents. I spent everyday of your mother's pregnancy with her up until the day you were born. About a month before you were born, your mother was admitted to the hospital because she was having some difficulty with her pregnancy. While your mother was in the hospital, I.....your father and I...um...sort of had an affair.

Ok heres more of the story. this is after Kate confesses to having an affair with Melissa's father.

Melissa: What!?! (starts flipping out)
Kate: Honey, calm down. I know um its hard to take all of this in right now but I have to tell you. *sigh* Anyway...the day you were born, I got a chance to hold you.(smiles). You were so tiny. From the moment I layed my eyes on you, I loved you. When your mother returned home from the hospital she had to stay in bed. I took care of her and you. Your father helped. After a while, your mother realized that ther was something going on between me and your father. Your mother kicked me out and I was never given the chance to explain or do anything. I think thats when your parents' relationship started to go down hill.
Melissa: You! It was you!?! You're the one they were always arguing about? I can't believe this! I can't believe you! And you say you care about me? How can you say that?
Kate: Melissa, I do care about you. And I always have. Your mother didnt want anything to do with me after she found out. Therefore, I was never able to see you or anything. Your father and I stayed in touch though. We wrote letters back and forth and he would always send a picture of you.

~~Kate gets up, walks to her room and goes to her dresser. She opens the bottom drawer and reaches underneath the clothes in it. She pulls out a stack of letters and some pictures. Kate then walks back to the spare room where Melissa is.~~

Kate: See? I have your baby pictures and school pictures. I even still have your father's letters.
Melissa: I still cant believe this. I cant believe my father did that to my mother. I bet she was heart-broken. I cant believe YOU did that to my mother. You're her sister! Ew and I cant believe you did that to my father.
Kate: (laughs) Well sweetie, it happened. Its the past and we cant change that.

~~Melissa lays back down. Kate again, is stroking Melissa's hair and face and looking at the girl that lay infront of her.~~

Kate: Are you ok?
Melissa: No. I'm scared.
Kate: Why?
Melissa: Why do you think? My parents are dead and you had an affair with my dad.
Kate: I know its hard. It was harder for me to tell you.

~Melissa starts sobbing. Kate tries to comfort her again.~

Kate: Do you want me to stay here with you, hun?
Melissa: Yeah, I guess so.

~~Kate crawls into the bed with Melissa trying her best to comfort her. Melissa turns her back to Kate and tries to fall asleep, but is unable to. Kate eventually dozes off.~~

***3:45a.m.***

~~Melissa is laying on her belly looking around and occasionally at Kate. Kate opens her eyes and takes a brief look at Melissa.~~

Kate: Hi hun.
Melissa: I'm sorry. Did I wake you?
Kate: Oh no, you didnt. Whats the matter?
Melissa: I cant sleep.
Kate: Why not?
Melissa: What am I going to do? Where am I gonna go?
Kate: As far as I'm concerned, you're not going anywhere. You're staying here with me. OK?
Melissa: Yeah ok.
Kate: Melissa, honey....I know about your Spanish teacher.

~Melissa looks at Kate in disbelief~

Melissa: My mother told you, didnt she?
Kate: Yes. I know you're not very comfortable around females anymore. And I know your Spanish teacher was getting a little too physical with you.

~Melissa thinks about those times with her Spanish teacher. She begins to cry.~

Melissa: Yeah, my spanish teacher...he was a little wierd.
Kate: A little?He should've been arrested.
Melissa: I know, but I was scared.
Kate: OK, ok. Thats enough talk for tonight. Go to sleep. OK?
Melissa: Ok

~~Kate motions for Melissa to put her head on her chest. Melissa hesitates. Slowly she puts her head on Kate's chest. She could hear Kate's heartbeat. Melissa felt like she was home again, as if she were in her mother's arms.~~

Kate: (whispering) Its ok sweetie. We'll talk more tomorrow.

~Tears start rolling down Kate's cheeks. Melissa looked at her aunt. She wanted to cry too, but held it in. Kate starts rubbing Melissa's back.~

Kate: We're gonna be fine.
Melissa: I know

***THE NEXT DAY- KATE'S HOUSE 10:35a.m.***

~~Melissa has just woken up. Kate is in the kitchen making breakfast. Melissa gets out of bed, goes to the bathroom and brushes her teeth, then heads for the kitchen.~~

Melissa: Hi Aunt Kate.
Kate: Hi Melissa.
Melissa: You're cooking?
Kate: What? You make it sound like I dont know how to cook.
Melissa: I thought you'd be at work or something.
Kate: I took a personal day so I could be with you.
Melissa: Oh I see.
Kate: I made arrangments so we could fly to New York to pick up your stuff and sign you out of school. We're gonna stay there for a few days.
Melissa: Um..Ok
Kate: Breakfast is ready. Sit down.

~Melissa takes a seat. Kate serves breakfast and seats herself directly across from Melissa.~

Melissa: Pancakes huh?
Kate: What? You dont like em?
Melissa: No, I didnt say that. I'm just trying to make conversation.
Kate: Oh, sorry for jumping the gun.
Melissa: eh, its ok
Kate: Listen, I wanna talk to you about your Spanish teacher and what we can do to get him arrested.
Melissa: Uh...um ok.
Kate: I was thinking that I can make a few calls to the local police department, around where you lived, and have them check the teacher out. Y'know, ask her a few questions. And then, when we go to New York and sign you out of school, you can say goodbye to everybody, including your Spanish teacher. If he tries to pull anything on you, we can have him arrested.
Melissa: So, you want me to set him up?
Kate: Well, yeah.
Melissa: I dunno. I'm scared.
Kate: Dont be scared, hun. Its just a thought. If works it works.
Melissa: And if it doent work?
Kate: If it doesnt work, then we'll have to think of something else.

~~After breakfast, Kate and Melissa go about their business. Kate makes a few phone calls, does some paper work. Melissa watches T.V.~~

***THE DIVISION-12:30p.m.***

Jinny: I wonder whats up with Cap.
Magda: Yeah, I know. I was thinkin' the same thing.
CD: Maybe she's spending quality time with her niece.
Jinny: Cap? Quality time? Yeah right.
CD: Its possible.
Jinny: Um...NO. I don't think Cap knows how to spend quality time with anybody.
Magda: Jin, it IS possible. Cap probably hasn't seen her niece in a while.

~Raina enters the division~

Raina: Hey! Whats goin' on?
CD: We're just discussing Cap's absence today.
Raina: Oh well, she didn't sound too good on the phone.
Jinny: (laughs) That kid is probably givin' her a hard time.
Magda: Jin, stop makin' jokes. Maybe something happened.

~Nate walks in~

Nate: Hey ladies!
Raina: Hey
Magda: Hi
Jinny: hey
CD: Hey Nate.
Nate: Whats goin' on?
Raina: Nothin', just talkin' about Cap.
Magda: We're wondering why she's not here today.
Nate: Why don't you call her and find out?
CD: Good idea. Who's callin'?
Jinny: Don't look at me!
Raina: Uh... I don't wanna call...so...
Nate: I'm not doin' it. Mag, go ahead.
Magda: Man! *sighs*

~Magda picks up the phone and dials Kate's number~

Kate: Hello?
Magda: Hey Cap!
Kate: Hi...uh...Magda.
Magda: Whats up?
Kate: Oh, nothing much. Is there anything wrong?
Magda: No. We just wanted to see how you were doin'. We're a little worried about you.
Kate: We?
Magda: Yeah. Me, Raina, CD, Nate and Jinny.

~Jinny gives Magda a look~

Kate: Jinny?
Magda: Yeah...Jinny is worried too. (Evily smiles at Jinny)

~Jinny gives Magda a hard, stern look~

Kate: Uh, ok, whatever.
Magda: So Cap, is everything ok?
Kate: Well, not really, but I can't talk about it now.
Magda: Uh ok. You comin' in tomorrow?
Kate: I'm not sure. I'll have to see about that.
Magda: Ok Cap. Call us if you need anything. Ok?
Kate: Ok Magda. Thanks.
Magda: No problem. Bye Cap. I hope everything is ok.
Kate: Thanks Mag. Bye.
Magda: Bye.

~Magda hangs up the phone. She looks at everyone with a worried look~

CD: Is everything ok?
Magda: I don't know. She said that she couldn't talk right now. She sounded horrible.
Raina: I told you.
Nate: I wonder what happened.

~Jinny sits at her desk in silence. Then she looks up at Magda.~

Jinny: How could you tell her that?
Magda: What?
Jinny: I wasn't worried about her. Now she's gonna think I'm all soft and everything.
CD: Oh please! Give me a break! You know you were worried.
Jinny: Shut up!
Magda: Look Jin, I think Cap needs our support.
Jinny: Why? Whats wrong with her?
Magda: I'm not sure but it can't be good if she sounded that bad and didn't come to work today.

OK..I gotta watch Bonnie on TV now. More later..

Kate: I made a few phone calls today. I called the local police department, by where you lived. They're gonna question your Spanish teacher and keep him under surveillance.
Melissa: Thats good.
Kate: Yeah. I also called the adoption agency.
Melissa: You did? Why? Are you gonna send me away?
Kate: No honey. I want to adopt you. But before I do that, I want to make sure you're ok with it....Are you?

~Melissa hesitates to answer.~
Melissa: Um...yeah. I guess. But do I have to change my last name?
Kate: Well, you don't have to change your last name...not if you want to.
Melissa: Good
Kate: So, that means you're ok with it?
Melissa: Yeah.

~Kate smiles and cups Melissa's face in her hands and kisses her on the forehead. Kate then hugs Melissa. Melissa begins to cry. So does Kate.~

Kate: I'm so happy.
Melissa: Yeah. I guess I am too.
Kate: I love you, honey. And I always have.
Melissa: Um...thanks.
Kate: Well, we're gonna have to meet with the adoption agency and settle everything. Now we just have to see about getting to New York and nailing your Spanish teacher.

So, do i keep going or what? give me ideas for the rest of the story. what do u think should happen?

Ok guys....I have NO idea what to do. I dunno where to go with this story and frankly I've been kinda lazy and I really didnt wanna write anything so gimme some ideas.:D

I know its been a while, but heres more:

***KATE'S HOUSE-That night 2:00a.m.***

~~Melissa had gone to sleep around eleven. Kate had done the same. Melissa wakes up and walks into Kate's room. She stands by the doorway and stares at Kate who is sleeping. Kate then opens her eyes and looks at Melissa~~

Kate: Hi honey. Whats wrong?
Melissa: I dunno. I woke up and I...I dunno.
Kate: You're afraid to be alone arent you?
Melissa: Yeah. I guess so.
Kate: C'mere hun. You can sleep here tonight if you want to. But you cant keep me up all night. I have to go to work tomorrow. *smirking* So no snoring, no tossing and turning, no bothering Kate...ok?
Melissa: (laughs) ok.

~Melissa crawls into bed and falls right to sleep. Kate looks at Melissa and smiles to herself.~

'She's a sweet kid' Kate though.

***KATE'S HOUSE- Next Morning***

~Kate is all ready for work. She is about to make breakfast. She wakes Melissa up.~

Kate: Wake up sleepy head. I'm gonna make breakfast.

Kate exits the room. Melissa wakes up, brushes her teeth, and heads for the kitchen.~

Melissa: Do you have to go to work? I dont wanna be alone.
Kate: I know but I have to go to work. Unless you wanna come with me.
Melissa: Can I?
Kate: Yeah. I dont see why not.
Melissa: Cool
Kate: Get dressed. Hurry up!
Melissa: Ok

~Melissa goes to her room and gets dressed. A few minutes later she re-enters the kitchen. Melissa and Kate sit down and eat breakfast.~

***THE DIVISION: 7:45a.m.***

~Kate enters the division with Melissa following behind her. Nate and CD watch as the two walk in and then glance at eachother.~

Nate: Whats Cap's niece doing here?
CD: I dunno. I wonder what happened.
Nate: Cap isnt looking too good either.
CD: Shhh!!!
Nate: Sorry.

~Magda enters the division. And surprisingly, so does Jinny.~

CD: Wow Jinny, you're early.
Jinny: Yeah, well. Mag picked me up.
Mag: Yeah. We gotta show Cap our support. And DONT give her a hard time, Jinny.
Jinny: Yes Mommy Dearest.

~Kate walks out of her office with a manilla folder in her hand.~

Kate: Cases...
Mag: What we got today Cap?
Kate: Not much today. Another homicide. A young man, around 20 years of age, was found dead in an alley. No suspects. nothing so far. CD, Nate, get on it.
CD: Sure.

~Kate looks at Magda and Jinny.~

Kate: Magda, Jinny, can I see you in the bathroom for a minute?
Jinny: Whats wrong with your office?
Kate: Nothing. I'd just prefer to talk to you in the bathroom.
Jinny: Yeah ok.

~Kate goes to her office where Melissa is seated.~

Kate: I'll be right back. I have to talk to two of my inspectors. ok?
Melissa: ok

~Kate walks towards the bathroom and enters. Jinny and Magda are already there waiting for her. Kate locks the door.~

Magda: Whats up Cap? Are you ok?
Kate: Um...not really.Look guys, I'm really stressed out. A lot of things have been going on and I'm gonna need you two to cooperate with me. Now Magda, I know you have Ben and everything. So, Jinny...do you think you could stay a few extra hours for a couple of days? Just until I get my situation settled.
Jinny: *sighs*

~Magda gives Jinny a look.~

Jinny: Sure Cap. No Prob
Magda: But what happened Cap? Are you ok?
Kate: Well, my sister and brother-in-law died in a plane crash.
Magda: Oh my gosh. Cap I'm so sorry.
Kate: Now Melissa, my niece, is gonna stay with me.
Jinny. That POOR kid
Magda: Shut up Jinny.
Kate: Jinny...shut it. Anyway, I'm gonna adopt Melissa. We're gonna have to go to New York and settle everything there. And we're gonna try to bust her Spanish teacher for molestation.
Magda: Molestation?
Kate: Yes. Melissa's Spanish teacher was molesting her.
Jinny: Wow. Thats rough.
Kate: Yeah it is. So, I'm gonna need your cooperation. Just until I settle everything. Is that ok?
Jinny: Yeah Cap.
Magda: Ofcourse its ok
Jinny: But Cap..why'd you pick us. You got CD and Nate too.
Kate: I know but you two are my best and most trusted inspectors.
Jinny: Trust? You trust me?
Kate: To an extent, Jinny, yes. I do trust you

Meanwhile, Charles enters the division looking for Kate. He goes to her office to find Melissa sitting in the corner. Charles is fuming.

~Charles patiently but angrily waits for Kate's return. Kate, Jinny, and Magda enter the division again. Kate fixes her eyes on Charles who is standing by her office,~

Kate: Charles? May I help you?
Charles: I just came over here to talk to you about that case two of your inspectors are working on but found her *points to Melissa* in your office.
Kate: Yeah...and?
Charles: What is she doing here Kate? She's interfering with everyones' work.
Kate: No she's not. She's not doing anything wrong. She's just sitting there.
Charles: Kate....she shouldnt be here. This is a workng place...a police department not a daycare.
Kate: Does she look like she needs a daycare? She needs someone. Someone to talk to. Someone to be there for her.
Charles: That may be so but that person doesnt have to be you. You have a division to run and you dont need any interruptions.
Kate: How dare you? Ofcourse that someone has to be me.
Charles: and why is that?
Kate: Because I'm her aunt and she doesnt have anyone else.

~Charles is silent~

Kate: Now if you would excuse me. I have to go.
Charles: Kate...this is a mistake. That kid is gonna cause problems here.
Kate: No...no she's not.
Charles: She's gonna interfere with your work and everyone else's.
Kate: How would you know? You dont even know her.
Charles: I'm always right Kate. And I always get the last word.

~Charles leaves the division. Kate goes into her office and sits down~

Melissa: Am I causing trouble? Cuz I can-
Kate: (interrupts) No honey. You're not causing trouble.
Melissa: Are you sure? Cuz I can leave if you want.
Kate: Dont be ridiculous. Everything is fine.

*** KATE'S OFFICE--A FEW HOURS LATER***

~Magda knocks on Kate's door~

Kate: Yeah?
Magda: Hey Cap. We're going to Anchorside for lunch and I was wondering if she *points to Melissa* could come along.
Kate: Um...how long are you going to be gone?
Magda: An hour the most.
Kate: Well, I'm fine with it. Melissa? Do you wanna go?
Melissa: um...is it ok if I go?
Kate: Yeah. sure. go ahead. have fun.
Magda: C'mon lets go.

~Melissa and Magda walk out of the division and to the elevator where Jinny is waiting.~

Jinny: So Mag...you got Cap to let her come along huh?
Magda: It wasnt that hard Jinny. You just have to show Captain some respect and ask her nicely and she'll give you her consent.
Jinny: Uh-huh.
Magda: What? Its true.


***ANCHORSIDE***

Jinny,Magda, and Melissa have been seated and have already ordered their meals. They're just sitting there waiting and chit-chatting

Jinny: So...uh...Melissa...you're Cap's niece huh?
Melissa: Yeah
Jinny: Whats it like? Y'know, being related to someone like that?

Magda nudges Jinny with her elbow.

Melissa: Someone like what?
Jinny: Oh gawd...she's already brainwashed you!
Magda: Jinny...stop. Melissa...dont listen to her. Shes crazy.
Jinny: I'm not crazy Mag. I'm just a lil touched thats all. *smirking*
Magda: Mmm Hmm
Jinny: Anyways...Melissa...how does Cap treat ya?
Melissa: Shes nice to me. She treats me very well.
Jinny: Ah i see. So where do ya sleep? Where does she put ya? Does she lock you up or something?
Magda: Jinny!!!
Melissa: Actually, she set up her guest room for me. But last night I slept in her room.
Jinny: *gasps* You slept in her room? OMG. Where did she sleep? Did YOU lock her up? *again smirking*
Melissa: She was in the room too. She was sleeping and I was kinda scared so she let me stay with her.
Jinny: Oh thats just sick!
Magda: Jinny, shut up! My God, you're so insensitive sometimes.
Jinny: I'm not insensitive. I just think Cap needs to give the kid a lil space. thats all.
Magda: And why do you care so much Jinny? Whats the big deal? Who cares where each of them slept or whatever?
Jinny: I just wanted to know if Cap had it in her to be nice.
Magda: Yeah right

Melissa: Are you two ok?
Magda: yeah sure. Jinny is just...well Jinny and she needs a reality check sometimes.

Magda: Thanks. We'll check it out. C;mon Jin.

~Magda and Jinny leave~

Raina: Melissa, Captain is waiting for you in her office.
Melissa: OK thanks.

~Melissa enters Kate's office~

Kate: Close the door hun.

~Melissa closes the door and sits down. Kate leans across her desk and looks at Melissa~

Kate: So, how was lunch?
Melissa: Um..good
Kate: Was it just you and Magda?
Melissa: No um...whats her name? Oh uh Jinny came with us
Kate: HMPH...ok...so what did ya talk about?
Melissa: Oh nothing...in particular.
Kate: Uh-Huh. No really. What did you talk about?
Melissa: Well uh...Jinny was asking me questions about you.
Kate: Like what kind of questions?
*Melissa re-caps her conversation with Jinny*
Kate: I'm gonna have to talk to Jinny about this.
Melissa: Um...is she in trouble now?
Kate: No...um..no. So, did you talk to Magda at all?
Melissa: Well she told me that Jinny was crazy *giggles* but I didnt take her seriously.
Kate: Maybe you should have...

~Magda enters the division. Jinny talks to an officer by the elevator. Kate walks out of her office and over to Magda~

Kate: Can you take Melissa somewhere? Get her a soda or something. I need to talk to Jinny.
Magda: Sure Cap, but whats wrong?
Kate: Nothing. I just have to talk to her.

~Kate goes to her office~

Kate: Melissa, go with Magda. Shes gonna take you for a walk and get you a soda or something while I take care of some business.
Melissa: Ok

~Magda and Melissa exit the division and head for the elevator where Jinny has just finished her conversation with an officer~

Jinny: Hey. Where are you guys goin?
Magda: For a walk. Captain has to talk to you.
Jinny: What for?
Magda: I dunno but she didnt seem very happy.
Jinny: Uh-oh. I wonder what I did.
Magda: Well you'd better go and find out.
Jinny: Ok. talk to ya later. Bye
Magda: Bye.

~Jinny walks into the division and sits at her desk. Kate walks out of her office~

Kate: Jinny.
Jinny: *looks up at Kate* Yeah?
Kate: *does that lil "C'mon" wave thing* I need to speak with you.

~Kate re-enters her office and Jinny follows. Kate sits down. Jinny closes the door and sits down as well.~

Jinny: Whats up Cap?
Kate:Well Melissa told me about a little conversaton that you two had.
Jinny: that little-
Kate: *interrupts* Dont even go there. It wasnt her fault. I asked her and she tried to get out of it. I pressured her to tell me.
Jinny: Oh
Kate: Now...would you care to tell me what that little conversation was about? Why did you ask those questions?
Jinny: Um...well...I uh just wanted to know what you're really like.
Kate: What do you mean by that?
Jinny: I wanted to know if you had it in ya to be nice.
Kate: But what does that have to do with where I slept or where she slept?
Jinny: Uh...
Kate: You're trying to make my relationship with Melissa seem inappropriate, arent you? She's my niece for God's sake!
Jinny: I was not trying to make anything seem inappropriate.
Kate: Then what were you doing? What was the point of asking questions like that?
Jinny: I dont know!
Kate: Well, when you come up with a better answer than that let me know.
Jinny: Is that it? Are we done?
Kate: No...one more thing...you do realize that little conversations and jokes like that can start rumors, right?
Jinny: I guess so. Whats your point?
Kate: My point is...if people hear stuff like that it would cause a lot of problems for me AND you. And I thought you were supposed to be cooperating with me.
Jinny: I'm tryin to Cap! And why would it cause problems for me?
Kate: Because if I were to ever get fired for crap like that, your next captain isnt gonna feel sorry for you and they wont take your crap either.
Jinny: are we done now? Have you gotten your point across?
Kate: I think I've made myself clear. And if I havent then you'll learn your lesson sooner or later.

Kate: Yes

~Jinny exits Kate's office and slams the door.~

Kate: *sigh* I dont know what to do with her.

Meanwhile, Magda and Melissa are walking around in the lobby of the building. Charles is also there. He spots them and approaches them.

Charles: Inspector Ramirez.
Magda: Hello
Charles: What are you doing down her with her *motions toward Melissa*
Magda: well, my Captain sent me down here with her so she could talk to Inspector Extead privately.
Charles: Oh I see. Well, have a nice day Inspector.
Magda: Thanks. You too.

Charles has an angry expression on his face. He walks over to the elevator, pushes the button and waits for the doors to open. Charles has Captain Kaitlyn McCafferty on his mind and isnt very pleased. Once Charles reaches the division he storms into Kate's office and slams the door behind him.

Charles: KATE!
Kate: Hey! Dont you slam my door like that!
Charles: Listen...I just saw Inspector Ramirez and that kid downstairs.
Kate: That kid is my niece. And she has a name. I'd appreciate it if you referred to her in a more respectful manner.
Charles: Well, your niece and Inspector Ramirez were downstairs.
Kate: Yeah...and?
Charles: And Inspector Ramirez said you sent her down there with your niece so you could speak with Inspector Extead.
Kate: I'm still not seeing your point.
Charles: My point is...I was right. That kid...oh wait, I'm sorry...your niece is interfering with everyones' work.
Kate: How so?
Charles: Inspector Ramirez's work was interrupted so she could take your niece downstairs so you could speak to Inspector Extead.
Kate: Inspector Ramirez wasnt busy at the time.
Charles: But Kate...You cant depend on her or anybody else all the time. She is interfering with peoples' work and you know it.
Kate: Do you wanna know who's interfering with peoples' work around here?
Charles: Who?
Kate: You! You're wasting my time. I have things to do. Good Bye Now.
Charles: *sigh* Alright Kate. I get it. I'll see you later.
Kate: That coffee is too good isnt it?
Charles: Huh?
Kate: I told you the other day when you were complaining about the coffee that if you feed the bears the good stuff they always come back. Its just too good.

Jinny: Huh? Oh well, Cap wanted to talk to me about that lil conversation I had with Melissa at lunch.
Magda: How does Cap know about that?
Jinny: Melissa told her. According to Cap, Melissa tried to hide it but Cap'n pressured her to tell.
Magda: Oh wow. So what happens now?
Jinny: Well I hafta think of a better excuse of why I was asking Melissa those questions than 'I dunno'
Magda: Do you have a better one?
Jinny: No
Magda: Hmpf...well...Jin...why did you ask those questions? There must have been a reason.
Jinny: I guess I was just being nosy. I mean...*starts to whisper* I honestly think Cap can be a good person. And I just wanted to see if she treated everyone the way she treats me.
Magda: Well Jin...Cap ofcourse is gonna have a very different relationship with her niece than she will have with you.
Jinny: Yeah
Magda: And in my opinion, Cap is a good person. You just hafta give her a chance just like she's given you more that one chance to make up for everything.
Jinny: I guess thats logical.
Magda: Maybe you should have a talk with Cap and tell her how you feel and what you think. I'm sure the outcome won't be that bad.

~Meanwhile, Kate and Melissa are having a lil discussion of their own~

Melissa: Did I get Jinny in trouble?
Kate: It wasnt you. It was her.
Melissa: What did she do wrong?
Kate: You know what she did wrong, so dont ask me questions like that.
Melissa: Ok. But um...how did your talk with Jinny go?
Kate: Well, I shouldnt even tell you but I would ask her questions and she would give me nonsense answers. Thats all I'm telling you.
Melissa: Y'know Aunt Kate, Jinny is a really funny person. She's nice too. you shouldnt be so hard on her.
Kate: I'm not being hard on her...well ok I am. I just want the best for her. Just like I want the best for you, and Amanda., and everyone else I care about.
Melissa: Wait a minute...who's Amanda?
Kate: Amanda is my daughter.
Melissa: I have a cousin? Cool. Where is she? How come I've never met her or heard anything about her?
Kate: Well Amanda lives in L.A. and I dont talk about her much because there isnt much to say.
Melissa: Oh. What does she look like? Do you have a pivture?

-Kate picks up a picture from her desk and hands it to Melissa.-

Melissa: -Ahem- *coughs* She's uh...um yeah.
Kate: *smiles* yeah I know.
Melissa: No offense
Kate: None taken. I didnt raise her that way. She chose to be like that.
Melissa: yeah
Kate: And now I have you. I can start all over again...sort of...
Melissa: yep
Kate: I think you're a little more reserved and more respectable than my daughter though.
Melissa: Aunt Kate! Thats your own daughter. You shouldnt talk about her like that.
Kate: yeah well
Melissa: Well...is it ok if I talk to Jinny?
Kate: Uh...
Melissa: C'mon. She's not that bad.
Kate: Ok..go ahead.

Melissa exits Kate's office and walks over to where Jinny is seated.

Melissa: Hi Jinny.
Jinny: hi
Melissa: Can I talk to ya for a minute?
Jinny: Sure

Melissa pulls a chair over to where Jinny is and seats herself. Kate gets up out of her chair and walks to the doorway of her office where she can see Jinny and Melissa but they are unable to see her and listens intently.

Melissa: look...I'm sorry if I got you in trouble before. I'm not really sure how your discussion with my aunt went but I gather it didnt go too well.
Jinny: Heheh yeah
Melissa: I think you should just talk to her about it. I think she's willing to listen to you.
Jinny: Oh really?
Melissa: Yeah. She;s really an OK person. You just hafta look at who she really is inside instead of how she treats you. Think about why she does it. It might help you understand her better. And maybe once you try to understand her, she'll do the same for you.
Jinny: Yeah. Y'know, you're smart for your age.
Melissa: *smiles* thank you.

-Kate heard the whole thing and it brought her to tears. Magda had heard it too and also knew that Kate had been listening. Magda caught a glimpse of Kate's face and noticed that she was crying. Magda went to Kate's office.-

Magda: You ok Cap?
Kate: yeah
Magda: Why are you crying?
Kate: I love that girl so much.
Magda: Melissa?
Kate: yeah
Magda: But why are you crying?
Kate: The way she was talking about me to Jinny. Nobody has ever talked about me like that. Not even my own daughter.
Magda: Yeah. It sounds like she cares about you a lot.
Kate: *starts sobbing*
Magda: Its ok Cap.
Kate: I know its ok...its just that this week has been so hard. And the way you and Jinny have pitched in...its been a big help. I appreciate it.
Magda: Its not a big deal Cap. Any time you need me...I'm here.
Kate: Thanks Magda
Magda: You're Welcome
Kate: Well, what are they doing? Are they still talking?
Magda: *gets up and looks out the window of Kate's office* It looks like they're just playin around. Y'know, laughing and stuff.

Kate: sure. have a seat.

~Jinny seats herself in a chair across from Kate~

Kate: Whats on your mind?
jinny: I wanted to apologize for before and for being the way I was with your niece and everything.
Kate: Well, I wasnt expecting that to come out of you but I appreciate it.
Jinny: look Cap...I know we havent always gotten along and that I'm not your favorite person but I'm ready to put all that aside and be the inspector you want me to be. how about you?
Kate: Jinny, i put all of that stuff aside a long time ago. I've been ready for that inspector to come out, but you have kept her to yourself.
Jinny: heh, yeah
Kate: Everybody here knows theres a good side to you. everybody has been fortunate enough to see that side of you too. You just need to prove your ability as a police officer to some people...like Charles.
Jinny: What about you?
Kate: you dont need to prove anything to me Jinny. I know who you are and what you're capable of.
Jinny: Oh
Kate: Look Jin, Melissa and I are going to New York this weekend and are gonna stay there a few days. We're gonna try to bust her Spanish teacher. I could always use an extra officer or two in a situation like this. Why dont you talk to Magda and see what comes out of it, Ok?
Jinny: New York? I'll go. I'll talk to Mag tomorrow.

Jin: *turns around in her seat* How you guys doin back there?
Kate: We're good. I think she's a bit nervous though.

Magda: *turns around* How are you holding up Captain?
Kate: Well, I'm trying to be strong for Melissa. She needs me right now. And I need her too.

***3 HOURS LATER-THE AIRPORT NEW YORK)***

~~KAte, Melissa, Jinny, and Magda have just gotten off the plane and have gotten their luggage. They are waiting for a van to pick them up~~

Kate: Honey! What are you doing over there? Come over here
Mel: *walks towards Kate* What?

~~Kate opens the door to the house. Inside is a neatly kept, well designed house. Kate stands in the middle of the hallway. Magda and Jinny wander around. Melissa stands in the doorway.~~

Kate: Wow. this brings back so many memories. Hey..Melissa where are you?

Kate: Come here hun
Mel: *walks over to Kate*

~Melissa leads them to the spare bedrooms. The bedrooms are next to eachother~

***HALF HOUR LATER-THE PIZZA PLACE***

~Jinny and magda are sitting at a table waiting for the pizza~

Jin: Its taking way too long just to make a stupid pizza.
Mag: I know. We've been here for a half hour already.
Jin: So watcha think about the whole situation with Cap?
Mag: I dunno. I cant believe it though. Do you think Captain is Melissa's real mother?
Jin: I dunno. Melissa does look a lot like Cap though.
Mag: but do you remember what Captain's sister looked like? her and Cap looked a lot alike so it just might be that.
Jin: yeah, but Cap and Melissa make a lot of the same facial expressions and they're just a lot alike.
Mag: But that stuff runs in families Jin.
Jin: True. Well maybe Cap will tell us what really happened.
Mag: Willingly? I dont think so.
Jin: well how are we gonna find out?
Mag: I dunno. Maybe its just...
Jin: Just what?
Mag: Maybe we got it all wrong. I mean...maybe Cap was talkin about something else.
Jin: I dunno Mag. She sounded like she was talking about an affair.

~After Jinny's statement, the two women didnt speak to eachother for a few minutes. They sat in awkward silence.~

~Jinny gets up and pays for the pizza~

Mag: *gets up* Comin'

~The two inspectors exit the pizza place and start heading toward the house~

Mag: I dunno if I can face Captain after what I heard today.
Jin: I know. I'm not sure that I can look her in the eye. Then again I could never do that.

~Magda and Jinny kepy walking until they reached the house. They went up to the door and rang the doorbell. Kate answered the door with a smile~

~Jinny left Magda and Kate alone in the hallway. She felt guilty for doing that to Mag but she knew that if she stood there another second she was gonna bust.~

~Upstairs Jinny found her way to Melissa's room and knocked on the door.~

~Jinny and Melissa head downstairs toward the kitchen. The table is already set up.~

~Everyone sat at the tabke and ate peacefully. There wasnt much talking that went on. It was awkward and uncomfortable, especially for Jinny and Magda. Later on that night after Melissa had gone to sleep, Kate, Magda, and Jinny were quietly watching television in the livingroom. It was completely silent. The only thing that eventually broke the silence was the sound of Kate's voice.~

Kate: Jinny? Magda?
Mag: Yeah?
Kate: i need to talk to you two about everything thats going on.

~Jinny and Magda exchanged suspicious looks~

Jin: Go on
Kate: well...before Melissa was born, I lived here in New York just a few minutes away. When I found out that my sister was pregnant with Melissa, I moved in.
Jin: Is this the same house?
Kate: Yeah *pauses*
Jin: Ok...go on...
Kate: So I moved in to help take care of my sister. Then my sister had complications with her pregnancy and had to go to the hospital a month early. Only my brother-in-law were left here in the house...*starts crying*
Mag: Captain...go ahead...go on
Kate: *sobbing* I....had an affair with my brother in law
Jin: Oh My god. Cap!
Mag: Does Melissa know?
Kate: yeah
Jin: Wow.
Mag: were you the one who told her?
Kate: Yeah...she flipped out on me

Kate: I just feel so bad but I had to tell her. I love my niece. I really do

Kate: I hardly know her as a person but I still care about her. I've cared about her since the day I first saw her. I've always thought about her.
Mag: how come you never got the chance to know her?
Kate: *sigh* this is the hard part.
Mag: Oh...I'm sorry
Kate: No..its ok...well when my sister came home from the hospital...she had to stay in bed for a while. My brother in law and I tended to her and Melissa. after a few days my sister began to notice that something was going on. I guess it was too obvious. So then my sister kicked me out after a huge argument. I had to move all my stuff and Amanda back to my house with no help. my brother in law offered but my sister wouldnt let him.
Mag: Amanda was there too?
Kate: Well, yeah.
Mag: Wow.
Jin: So, how did you end up in San Francisco?
Kate: well...I didnt want to live too close to my sister. I was already part of the NYPD and had about ten years under my belt. I found a house in San Francisco and moved my life there. A year after I started working for the SFPD, Jesse Whalen called me up. he helped me get my position as captain and the rest is history.
Mag: Jesse Whalen? The guy who was accused of killing that girl Shelby-something?
Kate: yeah.
Mag: Oh God... I hated that case. It was such a waste of time
Jin: Jesse Whalen? You got connections Cap, dont ya?
Kate: I suppose. And guys, we're not working right now. You dont hafta call me Captain
Jin: In all these years that I've known you, I have never called you Kate. And now it changes.
Kate: I know but I think its time you start calling me Kate. But when we're at work I want to be referred to as Captain.

Jin: So when are we scheduled to go to the school and take care of the stuff?
Kate: Monday. I hafta prepare Melissa for that.

~Kate made her way up the stairs. Instead of turning right, she turned left and headed towards Melissa's room. She opened the door and walked over to Melissa's bed and started playing with Melissa's hair. Kate gave Melissa a kiss on the cheek, got up and headed for the door. The kiss woke Melissa up.~

~As Kate exited Melissa's room she closed the door. She walked to the master bedroom and went to sleep.
Meanwhile, Jinny and Magda were still downstairs watching TV~

Jin: I dont think I've ever seen Cap that way.
Mag: Its kate...Kate...I cant believe we hafta call her 'Kate' now. After all these years, now she wants us to call her Kate.
Jin: I know. well maybe she feels that theres enough respect between us all.
Mag: true
Jin: Look Mag, I'm gettin tired
Mag: Me too
Jin: I'm goin to bed.
Mag: Me too

~Jinny and Magda walked up the stairs and to their rooms. They both fell right to sleep~

~ The next mornong Kate had gotten up early to make breakfast. Melissa hadnt come out of her room yet. Jinny and Magda woke up around the same time and went downstairs to greet Kate.~

Kate: Hey guys
Jin: Hey
Mag: Hi Kate
Kate: Where's Melissa?
Jin: I'm guessin' she's sleeping in this morning.
Kate: She needs to get up. I have to go over everything with her.
Mag: Everything?
Kate: Yeah. The plan for the Spanish teacher.
Mag: Oh right
Jin: I'll wake her up.
Kate: Thanks Jin
Jin: No prob


~Jinny made her way up the stairs and to Melissa's bedroom. She knocked on the door but nobody answered. So Jinny walked into the room to find Melissa hunched over in the corner. Jinny ran over to her.~

Jin: Whats the matter!?! Talk to me!
Mel: *sobbing* I'm so scared
Jin: Of what?
Mel: Everything. We're getting closer and closer to the day that I have to turn my teacher in. I dont think I can do it. I'm just....I just cant
Jin: But you have to. It will help protect you and other kids. You have to be strong. I've been to hell and back and I'm still goin'. If I can do it then anybody can.
Mel: I dont know. Why? Why was I cursed with a life like this?
Jin: *giggles* Cursed? Melissa, you are far from cursed. You've been through some tough stuff in the passed couple of days, but you've got a wonderful aunt who cares about you a lot. You wouldnt believe how much that woman cares about you.
Mel: She cares about me that much?
Kate: *walks in unexpectedly* Yes. I care about you very much.
Jin: Cap...Kate I didnt know you were standing there
Mel: Niether did I
Kate: Well, I wasnt here the whole time but I heard enough.
Jin: What do you mean by that?
Kate: I heard enough to know that you have some kind of respect for me Jin.
Jin: Well-
Kate: Now, Melissa, honey…You cant be afraid. If you do this, you’re gonna save a lot of other kids from the pain you had to endure. They wont have to go through what you did.
Jin: You’ll be like a hero.
Kate: Yeah
Mel: But I’m still scared.
Mag: *walks in* We know you're scared. But you have to do it.
Mel: I know.
Kate: C'mon guys. I didnt make breakfast for nothing

boring what are you talking about . That was good it lets us see so much more of mellisa's relity and how she feels about. I also liked the play of the moment where Jinny metions kate and saysomething " you would belive how much that woman cares about you" and kate heard this and realize that Jinny does respect her. Was that a mini K/J moment ?

The day has come! I am finally posting more. I'm sorry it's been so long. I just haven't been able to think of anything to write. I hate writer's block. Well, anyway, here's some more:


~After the four women ate breakfast, Kate went over the plan for the Spanish teacher. Melissa tried her best to stay coherent, but it just wasn't working. Her mind would dift. She would begin to think of all the terrible things that had happened to her. She eventually broke down and started sobbing.~

Kate: Melissa, honey? What's wrong?
Mel: *head in hand* I...I *sobs*
Jin: Melissa, if you need to say something, let it out. Don't hold it inside.
Mel: I don't want to do this. I don't want to put my teacher in jail.
Mag: Melissa, he hurt you...physically and emotionally. She may be doing it to someone else. He needs to be punished for this.
Kate: Magda is right. Your teacher can't keep doing this to kids. It's just not right.
Mel: I know, but I don't know if I can go through with this. It's hard to even think about it.
Kate: I know it's hard. We all know it's hard, but you have to do this for your sake and also for the safety of other kids.

~The four women sat in silence for a moment or so. Melissa had her head in her hands. Kate, Jinny, and Magda were all afraid to speak. They feared that they might say the wrong thing and upset Melissa or one another. But surprisingly, Melissa was the first one to break the silence.~

Mel: Ok. I'm alright now. I just needed a minute to think. I know that I have to do this. I know that it's the best thing to do. All of this I know. You all don't have to pound it into my head every five minutes. This is hard enough without all of your nagging and pep talks. I can do this. I just need to sit and think about it for a while. Ok?
Kate: That's fine honey. I completely understand.
Mel: And you don't have to go over this with me. I know what I'm supposed to do. And I will do it. I just need some time.
Mag: We understand Melissa.
Kate: Honey, if you want to be alone, that's fine, but I still have to talk to you about some things.
Mel: Ok. I'm going to my room now.
Kate: Ok. I'll be up there in a bit.
Mel: Ok.

~After Melissa leaves the room, Kate looks at Magda and then at Jinny.~

Kate: Guys, this is so hard. I shouldn't have put her through all of this.
Mag: Captain, you have to do this. It's the right thing to do. You're protecting someone you love. And if you need us to help, we're always here. And we always will be. Right Jinny?
Jin: Oh...uh...yeah sure
Mag: Hmph *nudges Jinny w/ elbow*
Kate: Thanks guys. Oh, By the way, when I go talk to Melissa later I want you two to be there. I want you to hear what I have to say.
Mag: Ok.
Jin: Alright.

~The three women go over the plan for the Spanish teacher. About twenty minutes later they head up stairs to Melissa's room~

Then she heads to Melissa's room. Kate knocks on the door. Jinny and Magda are right behind her. Melissa opens the door and lets them in. They all seat themselves on Melissa's dark green carpet. They sit in silence for a moment or so, occassionally glancing at one another.~

Jin: So...
Kate: Well, *pauses* Melissa, I mentioned this to you the other day, but I really want to talk to you all about this seriously. Magda, Jinny; you are kind of like...witnesses to all of this.

~Magda and Jinny exchange suspicious looks~

Mag: Go on...
Kate: *looks at Melissa* Melissa, honey, you're my niece. And I love you. I care about you so much hun. I think you know that.
Mel: Yeah
Kate: Okay. Well, now that your parents are *long pause* no longer with us, I want you to come live with me. *pulls papers from pocket* These papers...these papers are adoption papers. Melissa, I want to adopt you. Magda, Jinny; I wanted you two to be a part of this moment. I wanted you two to be here for this because *gets teary eyed* well, I consider you both family. And for a long time I had nobody. Amanda left me and I had nobody. But you two were always there when I needed you. You were always supportive and stuck by me.
Jin: *interrupts* Oh, don't tell me you wanna adopt us too
Mag: Jinny!
Jin: Sorry. I had to say it. *looks at Kate and smiles*
Kate: *smiles back at Jin* Well, what I was going to say was: You two have been like family to me. And now that I have Melissa, everything has kind of come full circle. On these papers, there are two lines for signatures of two witnesses. Its basically asking if you have seen me show love and affection for Melissa. And I was hoping, if Melissa agrees, that you two would sign the papers.
Mag: I'll sign it!
Kate: Jin?
Jin: Sure. I'll sign.
Kate: *turns to Melissa* Melissa, would you like to come live with me? Can I adopt you?
Mel: I would love that. It would mean so much to me.

~ Kate, Magda, and Jinny started getting teary eyed. Melissa scoots over, closer to Kate and hugs her.~

Kate: *closes eyes* I am so happy...so lucky to have you
Mag: *to Jin* C'mon Jin. Let's leave them alone.
Jin: But...but we're family too! *puts hands on hips*
Kate: *looks at Jinny and then to Magda* Mag, you and the big baby can stay. It's okay.

~Jinny and Magda stay with Melissa and Kate for a few minutes. Then Magda decides to leave. Jinny follows her. In the hallway Jinny questions her~

Jin: Why'd ya leave.
Mag: I just think they need to be alone.

Mag: they just had a special moment, y'know? I think they need a few minutes alone.

~Kate walks out to the hallway. Melissa follows. Kate looks at Magda and then at jinny~

Jin: We have all day right?
Kate: Yeah. We're free today. Why don't we just drive around and go shopping or something?
Mag: Thats not a bad idea.
Jin: Sounds good to me
Kate: *turns to Melissa* Melissa, you wanna go?
Mel: Um...yeah sure
Kate: Well....I guess everybody should get ready, huh?
Jin: Uh yeah.

~After everyone took showers and got dreses they gathered in the kitchen.~

Kate: So...where do you guys wanna go?
Jin: I dunno
Mag: Wherever you wanna go.
Kate: Alrighty then. We'll just drive around. Mag: Ok.
Kate: But wait...I dont have a car.
Mel: My parents' car is still here.
Kate: Is there an extra set of keys?
Mel: Yeah. I'll go get them


~Melissa retrieves the keys from her parents' bedroom and makes her way back downstairs.~

Mel: Got 'em. *hands keys to Kate*
Kate: Thanks sweety.
Mel: No prob.
Kate: So...you guys ready?
Jin: yep
Mag: yeah.

~The four women left the house and walked to the car. They got in and took off. They drove around for abot two hours and stopped to have lunch at a restaurant. They walked in and were seated. They were all looking at the menu when Melissa noticed something that almost caused her to stop breathing~

Teacher: Hi Melissa
Mel: *nervous* um...hi
Teacher: how are you?
Mel: uh..ok I guess
Teacher: I heard about your parents. I am so sorry.
Mel: um..thanks
Teacher: Yeah...
Mel: I gotta go
Teacher: Why? Who are you here with?
Mel: I just gotta go. Bye


~Melissa left the teacher by the bathroom. She walked back over to her table~

Mel: he followed me.
Kate: What!?!
Mel: My Spanish teacher followed me to the bathroom.
Kate: he didnt do anything to you, did he?
Mel: No. He was just talking to me but I cut the conversation short.
Kate: Good.
Jin: Do you guys wanna leave?
Kate: I think that would be a good idea.

~ Kate, jinny, Magda, and Melissa leave the restaurant. On their way out they pass by Melissa's Spanish teacher who is still standing by the bathroom. Melissa looks at her teacher as walks by. The teacher winks at Melissa. Melissa then begins to pick up the pace. Kate shoots a look at the Spanish teacher before she leaves. This look leaves the Spanish teacher with the impression that its not gonna be easy trying to get away with her crime.~

Okay,missy! it's guilt trip time! (Warning: I can lay a guilt trip like no one else!)

I have one VERY stressful day 2day! very stressful!
1st off, I hit my foot on the corner of the coffee table. Then In
was going outside and tripped and fell out the door,hitting the same foot again.Then outside I slid and fell on the same foot! the when I was coming back in I tripped again
this time falling IN the door, hitting the same foot!
AND while I was outside riding my bike, My lil cuz who's 2, asked if he could ride,so I got off,and was pushing him on my bike.and then he slid,I let go of the bike to catch him (the bike fell on my foot btw) I did, but his foot got caught in between the wheel and
and the axil! we had to call 911 to come get him loose!

Anyways, I sign online. and come here,thinking hmmm maybe Tara's added to her fic. welp!, I was wrong!

Ok...heres some more:

~~The four women walked through the parking lot trying to find the car. When they found it, they got in and sat there in silence for a moment or so. Nobody knew what to say. Kate sat in the driver's seat looking pale and worried. Melissa put her hand on Kate's shoulder to comfort her. Kate looked over at Melissa. Kate had tears in her eyes. Jinny and Magda were in the backseat and watched all of this. They gave eachother questioning looks. Still, nobody spoke. Kate started the car and drove back to Melissa's house. Kate pulled into the driveway and turned off the car. She took off her seatbel but she didnt get out of the car. Jinny and Magda had gotten out of the car already and were waiting for Melissa and Kate. Melissa wanted to stay with Kate. She handed the house keys to Magda. melissa looked over at Kate. Tears were streaming down Kate's cheeks.~~

Mel: Aunt Kate? What's wrong? Are you okay?
Kate: *shaky voice* Honey. I'm so scared. I'm scared for you.
Mel: Why?
Kate: Your Spanish teacher. He has been molesting kids for years. Everyone has always know about it but nobody has ever said anything. This will be the first time he will be confronted by someone.
Mel: Oh.
Kate: It's gonna be so hard to put him away. Your teacher is a well known person and many people like him. A lot of people are gonna be in his favor. Everyone is going to think you're lying. I dont want you to go through hell for wanting to protect yourself. This case is probably gonna go to trial. And if it does, you'll have to testify.
Mel: But, I dont want to.
Kate: I know but if this does go to trial, you have to testify.
Mel: I'm scared.
Kate: I know you are. I'm scared for you.


~Kate and Melissa sat in silence for a minute or two. Kate decided it was time to go inside. Kate and Melissa got out of the car and went inside the house to find Jinny and Magda in the living room watching t.v.~

Kate: Hey guys.
Jin: Hey
Mag: Hi
Jin: You alright Cap?
Kate: Yeah Jin. I'm fine. I think I'm gonna go lay down for a while though.
mag: Ok. You do that. I think you need some rest.
Kate: Yeah I do need some rest.

~Kate made her way upstairs and to the master bedroom. She took off her coat and shoes. She plopped down on the bed and fell asleep. A few hours later she woke up and went downstairs. She made her way to the kitchen only to find that Jinny, Magda, and Melissa had already prepared dinner and were getting ready to eat.~

Jinny: *smiling* Its about time you woke up.
Kate: *laughs* What time is it anyway?
Jin: Its 6:30
Kate: *gasp* I slept that long?
Mel: Yep.
Mag: Come on guys. Dinner is ready!
Kate: What are we having?
Mag: Well, I made a lovely Puerto Rican style meal *HUGE smile*
Kate: And this meal consists of...?
Mag: Arroz con pollo, platanos, pastelillos, y pan.
Kate: And in my terms that would be...?
Mag: *laughs* Rice with chicken, plantains, meat patties and bread.
Kate: Oh...sounds good. Looks good. Now let's see if it tastes good.

~ They all sat down. Everyone begins to eat.~

Kate: Magda, this is delicious.
Mag: Thanks.
Jin: Yeah Mag, its really good.
Mag: thanks Jin. Melissa, how is it?
Mel: Its good. My dad used to make this stuff for us all the time.

~They all ate and chatted for a while. When dinner was over they cleaned up. then Kate called everyone to the living room for a talk.~

Kate: *to Jinny and Magda* First off...I just want to let you two know that this is the first time this teacher is being confronted with this issue. He's been molesting kids for years. Everybody has always known but nobody stepped up to the plate and said anything. And the police department didnt have any hard core evidence, so this is the first time. And thats why its gonna be so hard to put her away for this.
Mag: Wow
Kate: *to Melissa* Melissa, I need to ask you some questions. This might get a little personal. I dont know...Do you want to talk somewhere else or are you alright with Jinny and Magda being here?

~Before Melissa could answer Jinny jumped up and interrupted her.~

Jin: No! Uh...Mag and I can leave.
Mag: Where are we going?
Jin: We''l just walk around the neighborhood or something.
Kate: Ok.

~Jinny and Magda put on their shoes and coats and walked out the door.~

Jin: I did not wanna be in there for that discussion.
Mag: I dont blame you. I didnt wanna be there either.
Jin: If I'd stayed there, I would've felt like i was invading Melissa's privacy.
Mag: Yeah. I know what you mean.

Ok...I'm gonna post some more tonight. I actually wasnt going to do it tonight but I'm gonna do it so I dont have to tomorrow. So um...yeah....


~~Back at the house, kate was preparing herself to ask Melissa questions. She was dreading this. She didnt want to ask Melissa those questions but she knew she had to. Melissa, on the other hand, was completely prepared for this. She wanted to get it all out of her system. She wanted Kate to know the truth about her teacher, but she knew it was still going to be hard to get through this.~~

Kate: Ok...Melissa, are you ready?
Mel: Yeah.
Kate: This might be difficult for you. Hell...who am I kidding? Its difficult for me.
Mel: Well, even if it is difficult...I'm ready. I need to tell my story.
Kate: Ok honey.


~Kate was sitting on one sofa and Melissa was sitting on another. They were both looking at eachother. Kate grapped the paper and pen that were laying beside her.~

Kate: Ok...How did this all start?
Mel: Well...one day in the beginning of the school year, my teacher asked me to stay after class for no reason. I didnt think anything of it though.
Kate: And what happened?
Mel: He said he just wanted to talk to me.
Kate: About what?
Mel: He said that I was a good student and that I should help him teach the class. He wanted to change my seat too.
Kate: Where did he want you to sit?
Mel: Next to his desk.
Kate: Did you ever end up sitting next to his desk?
Mel: Yeah...for the whole year
Kate: Ok. When did your teacher start um...um...you know...
Mel: Towards the middle of the school year. Around march.
Kate: How did that start?
Mel: Well I used to have to stay after class because I used to help him teach. We would go over everything for the next day. I sat next to him at his desk. We had gotten pretty close by then. We would joke around and stuff. Then one day he...

~Meanwhile Jinny and Magda were walking around the neighborhood trying to make the time go by faster.~

Jin: I wonder how its goin'.
Mag: Yeah. I know.
Jin: I feel so bad for Melissa. I mean, shes so young. She shouldnt have to deal with that crap.
Mag: Yeah, but I feel bad for Cap too. All she wants to do is protect Melissa. It must be so hard on her.
Jin: Yeah. I feel bad for Cap too.

~ At the house, Kate was still questioning Melissa. By this time it was becoming very emotional for both of them.~

Kate: *crying* Honey...I know this is hard but we gotta do this. Ok?
Mel: *sobbing* I know.
Kate: Alright. Where else did he touch you?

~Just then, Jinny and magda walked through the door. Kate and Melissa paused.~

Jin: Hi.
Kate: Hey. Ok, I think thats enough for tonight Melissa.
Mel: *sobbing* ok.
Kate: Go upstairs hun. I'll be up there in a few minutes.

~Melissa goes upstairs to her room. Kate pulls Jinny and Magda into the kitchen.~

Kate: *whispering* Guys...this is pretty bad. She just told me so many disturbing things.

Ok...well the creative part of my brain started working again and I was able to write some more of my fic. So here it is:

Jin: Its that bad?
Kate: Yeah. I was so emotional for her. And for me.
Mag: Yeah.
Kate: I'm gonna go upstairs and say goodnight to Melissa.
Jin: OK Cap.
Kate: Goodnight guys.
Jin: 'Night Cap.
Mag: Goodnight.
Kate: And Jin...
Jin: Yeah?
Kate: Dont call me Cap. Didnt we already go over this?
Jin: Right. Gotcha.

~~Kate went upstairs to the master bedroom first to change. Then she headed to Melissa's room. She opened the door and went in. The light was turned off and Melissa was already in bed. Melissa's back was turned to Kate. Kate crawled into the bed and snuck up on Melissa. She had startled Melissa. Melissa's body jerked in shock. Kate hugged her.~~

Kate: *whispering* Its okay honey. Its me.
Mel: *relieved* you scared the crap outta me.
Kate: I'm sorry.
Mel: Its okay.
Kate: How are you feeling?
Mel: a little better
Kate: Good. I know tonight was hard for you. I'm sorry.
Mel: Yeah. Its alright.
Kate:Tomorrow's going to be even harder.
Mel: I know.
Kate: Are you scared? Nervous?
Mel: Both
Kate: I dont blame ya.
Mel: Aunt Kate?
Kate: Yeah honey?
Mel: Can you stay here with me for a while?
Kate: Sure.
Mel: Ok. Good.


~~At that moment Kate began to squeeze Melissa even tighter. She didnt want to let her go. The truth was she was scared to let her go. She really didn’t want Melissa to go through any more torture. Kate knew it was hard for Melissa. Kate eventually fell asleep in Melissa’s bed. Jinny and Magda were heading upstairs to go to bed. Magda noticed that Melissa’s bedroom door was open and decided to see if everything was okay. Jinny followed. When they reached the room they looked inside. They found a sleeping Melissa and a sleeping Kate with her arms tightly planted around Melissa.~~

Mag: *whispering* Aww Jinny look.
Jin: I know. That’s so sweet.
Mag: Yeah. Makes me miss Ben even more.
Jin: Aww Mag. You’ll see Ben soon.
Mag: Yeah I know. Well, I’m going to bed. Goodnight Jin.
Jin: Goodnight Mag.

~~ The two women both headed to their rooms. Magda went straight to bed. Jinny, however, didn’t. Jinny took out of her bags and reached down in one pocket. She pulled out a camera. She quietly walked down the hall to Melissa’s room. She peeped inside. There was enough moonlight shining through Melissa’s bedroom window to take the perfect picture. Jinny snapped a picture.~~

Jin: Perfect.

~Jinny went back to her room, put the camera away and went to sleep. The next morning Magda and Jinny woke up bright and early to make breakfast.~

Mag: Cap and Melissa still aren’t up yet.
Jin: Should I wake them up?
Mag: Yeah. I guess
Jin: Ok.

~Jinny headed upstairs to Melissa’s room. She found Kate and Melissa still sleeping. Kate was sleeping on her back with her mouth wide open.~

Jin: *to self* Ugh. Why? Why did I have to do this?

~Jinny paused for a minute. She was staring at Kate. Then she tried to wake her.~

Jin: Cap…wake up.

~Kate was in a deep sleep~

Jin: Cap…wake up. Cap…

~Jinny began to shake Kate’s body, but Kate wouldn’t budge. Jinny kept shaking her until she got so frustrated she screamed.~

Jin: CAAAAAPPPP!!!!!

~Kate nearly jumped out of her skin. Her eyes opened and were wide.~

Kate: WHAT!?! Oh Geez Jinny! You scared me!
Jin: Well…you wouldn’t get up

~At this point Melissa was already awake and laughing so hard that she could hardly breathe.~

Kate: * to Melissa* What are you laughing at?
Mel: You’re a heavy sleeper Aunt Kate.
Kate: Yeah well.
Jin: Yeah. You are a heavy sleeper.

~Magda had heard Jinny scream from downstairs. She ran upstairs to see what was going on.~

Mag: Jinny is everything okay?
Jin: Yeah. Cap just wouldn’t wake up.
Mag: Oh….well breakfast is ready.
Jin: Cool.
Kate: I’ll be down in a few minutes
Mag: Alright.
Jin: Melissa, you comin’?
Mel: Uh yeah…just a sec. I have to fix my bed and stuff.
Jin: Okay.

~Jinny and Magda made their way downstairs and begin to eat breakfast.~

Mag: that was a cute scene last night.
Jin: *mouth full* What?
Mag: seeing Captain and Melissa sleeping. It was cute.
Jin: Yeah it was. I took a picture of them. I’m gonna get the picture blown up and framed. I’m gonna give it to them after we bust the Spanish teacher today.
Mag: aww Jinny that’s sweet.


~Kate walked into the kitchen at that moment. She was barefoot, wearing an oversized T-shirt and her hair was a curly mess. She waddled over to Jinny and Magda who were sitting at the table.~

Kate: Whats sweet?

~Jinny and Magda almost bursted out laughing. Kate was a wreck. She looked worse than a house that had just been hit by a tornado. Jinny and Magda gave her strange looks.~

Jin: Uh nothing…nevermind.
Mag: Yeah it was nothing
Kate: *confused* Why are you two looking at me like that?

~Jinny and Magda looked at eachother and then at Kate. They both simotaniously looked at Kate up and down. Kate looked at herself.~

Kate: Oh Sh*t! I didn’t even realize I looked like this. I must look horrible to you two!
Jin: *coughs*
Kate: Jinny…shut up. I’ll uh be right back.

~As Kate left, Jinny and Magda started laughing hysterically. Kate went upstairs to change into something more appropriate. Melissa walked into the room. She sat down on the bed.~

Mel: Hey.
Kate: *jumps* Oh my god…you scared me.
Mel: Sorry.
Kate: That’s okay.
Mel: how are you?
Kate: Good. You?
Mel: Hungry.
Kate: *laughs* Yeah. I bet you are. Come on lets go downstairs.

~Kate and Melissa headed downstairs to the kitchen. They sit down to eat with Jinny and Magda.~

Kate: Guys…today’s the day you know.
Jin: yeah.
Kate: We’re gonna head out to the school around ten o’clock. So I suggest that after breakfast you all start getting ready. Okay?
Mag: Okay.
Jin: Gotcha.
Mel: Alright.

~Everyone finished their meal and departed from eachother. They took showers, got dressed, and prepared themselves for the day ahead of them.~

Okay....heres some more...I hope you like it.

~~After everyone was ready they headed out to the school. In the car nobody spoke. There was dead silence. Melissa seemed nervous. Kate looked over at her and put her hand on Melissa’s. Kate then looked forward and kept driving. Jinny and Magda were unusually quiet. When Kate pulled into the parking lot of the school, there were already ten police cars waiting. Kate parked the car and got out. She walked over to one of the police officers.~~

Kate: Wait until I give you the signal. Then you come in.
Police officer: Okay. How long?
Kate: It might take a while. Maybe a half an hour to forty five minutes.
Police Officer: Okay. We’ll be waiting Captain McCafferty.
Kate: Good.

~Kate walked back to the car. She looked through the open window.~

Kate: Come on guys. Are you ready?
Mag: Yeah Captain.
Jin: Yeah
Kate: Melissa, come on. You gotta do this.
Mel: I’m comin’

~~Jinny, Magda and Melissa stepped out of the car. They followed Kate into the main entrance of the school. Before they could bust the Spanish teacher, Kate had to sign Melissa out of the district. While Kate was doing that, Jinny and Magda were busy helping Melissa empty out her locker and escorting her around the school to say goodbye to her teachers. About twenty minutes later, Kate, Jinny, Magda, and Melissa all met in the main office of the school. They went over the plan with each other and the principal as well.~~

Principal: Are you sure you have the right teacher Ms. Perez?
Melissa: Yes.
Kate: Look, Mr. Hunter, we have a job to do here and we’re gonna do it whether you agree to it or not. Actually, I believe you already did agree to it when we asked permission to put cameras in that teachers classroom.
Principal: Uh…
Kate: Exactly. Jinny, Magda; take your positions.

~Jinny and Magda left to go to the Spanish teacher’s room. Kate looked at Melissa. She looked nervous and pale. Kate whispered in Melissa’s ear.~

Kate: *whispering* Its gonna be okay.
Mel: I know.
Kate: Okay…I have to send the signal to the officers outside. I need a walky talky.

~An officer hands Kate a walky talky.~

Kate: *into walky talky* We’re ready. Start heading in.

~~Kate grabbed Melissa’s hand. They started walking to the Spanish teacher’s classroom. When they got there Jinny and Magda were at either side of the doorway to the classroom. There were five or six officers guarding the hallway and another six officers surrounding the door.~~

Kate: Everybody move away from the door and get down. When Melissa goes in, she’ll close the door and everyone can take their positions again.

~Jinny, Mgda, and the officers did as they were told. There was an officer back in the main office waiting to hear from Kate. Kate spoke into the walky talky.~

Kate: We’re ready. Turn on the cameras.
Police Officer: Gotcha.

~Kate put the walky talky in her pocket. She turned to Melissa, and looked her in the eye.~

Kate: Honey, you have to be brave. I’m sorry that you have to do this.
Mel: Its okay. I know its important that I do this.

~With that said, Kate gave Melissa a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Melissa walked into the classroom.~

Teacher: *smiling* Hi Melissa!
Mel: Hi.

~Outside of the classroom, everyone had re-taken their positions. Jinny and Magda peeked into the classroom every few seconds. Inside of the classroom, the Spanish teacher had approached Melissa and began to play with her hair.~

Teacher: How are you doin’ honey?
Mel: I’m alright.
Teacher: So…gimme a hug.
Mel: um…ok

~ The teacher reached out for Melissa. Melissa hugged him back. After a long embrace, the Spanish teacher began to kiss Melissa’s neck. Tears were streaming down Melissa’s face. She didn’t want to go through with this but she knew she had to. Outside Jinny and Magda were watching.~

Jin: Cap…look.
Kate: Oh My God

~Kate nearly lost her sanity. By now the Spanish teacher was no longer kissing Melissa but touching her body. Kate took out her walky talky and spoke into it~

Kate: Are the cameras going? Are you getting this?
Police officer: Yeah Kate. I cant believe it.

~Back in the classroom the Spanish teacher was pushing Melissa to the edge of an emotional breakdown. Melissa wanted so bad to push the teacher away but she knew she couldn’t. Outside Kate spoke into the walky talky once more.~

Kate: Do we have enough footage of this?
Police Officer: Yeah and I just found out that from the past couple of days we have even more evidence on tape.
Kate: Good. So can I send ‘em in?
Police Officer: Yeah.

~Kate put the walky talky back in her pocket.~

Kate: Ok guys. Go in.

~Jinny opened the door. She had her gun in her hands. Magda followed. They pointed their guns.~

Jin: SFPD for the NYPD! FREEZE!
Mag: Melissa, move outta the way!

~Melissa ran out of the classroom. Kate walked in. She was dead serious. She had a hard look on her face. She came face to face with the Spanish teacher.~

Kate: Mr. Stanley, you are under arrest for child molestation. Officer Green will read you your rights.
Officer Green: *handcuffs teacher* Mr. Richard Stanley, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against in a court of law…

~The officer took the Spanish teacher away. Kate walked out of the classroom and over to Melissa.~

Kate: Honey…I’m so proud of you.

~Kate and Melissa embraced each other. They stood there for a long while embracing each other. They were both crying.~

Mel: I love you Aunt Kate.
Kate: I love you too.

Kate: Come on guys...lets go.

~~The four women left the school building and walked to the car. They got in. kate started the car and drove off. The car ride was quiet and calm. kate pulled into the driveway. Everyone got out of the car and walked to the house. Kate opened the door and they all walked in. Jinny ran upstairs to her room and got the camera from her bag. She realized there was still one picture left. She paused for a minute to think. Jinny then went down stairs. Everyone was in the kitchen talking. jinny walked in.~~

Jin: Hey guys.
Mag: hey
Kate: Hi Jin.
Jin: Look, I have one more picture left on my camera. You guys wanna take a picture?
Mag: Sure
Mel: Okay
Kate: Speak for yourselves. I'm not photogenic anyway. *smirks*
Jin: Oh Come on...
kate: Alright alright.
Jin: Ok cool. Everybody get close. wait...I gotta get in there. Ok here we go.

~Jinny set the timer on her camera and jumped in the picture. The flash went off.~

Jin: Okay...I'm gonna go get these developed. Is there a one hour photo place around here?
Mel: yeah...just around the corner.
Jin: Okay. thanks. Mag, you wanna come with me?
Mag: Sure.
Jin: Okay. Bye guys
Kate: *smiles* Bye Jin.


~About two hours later Jinny and Magda came back to the house. Jinny entered the house with a large rectangular frame.~

Jin: Go get Cap and Melissa.
Mag: Ok

~ Magda went upstairs to find Kate and Melissa. She found them in Melissa's room chatting.~

Mag: Jinny wants you guys.
Kate: Ok. we'll be down in a minute.
Mag: Ok.

~Meanwhile Jinny was down stairs in the kitchen. She had put the rectangular frame on the table. Magda came into the kitchen. She was followed by Kate and Melissa.~

Kate: Ok...what Jinny?
Jin: Look at the table.
Kate: *looks at table* Oh my gosh. Jinny thats...thats me and Melissa. Jinny I love it. Its perfect.

~The picture in the frame was of Kate and Melissa sleepng.~

jin: I'm glad you like it.
Mel: Wow. Thats nice.
Kate: Thank you Jinny.
Jin: No prob.

~Just then the phone rang. Kate answered it.~

Kate: Hello?......oh really?.....ok we'll be there. thanks. bye.
Jin: Who was that?
Kate: That was one of the precinct officers. Melissa's Spanish teacher is going to court tomorrow. He's gonna plead guilty.
Mel: Are you serious?
Kate: yeah. we gotta be there at nine in the morning.


~The next morning everyone woke up, got ready and headed to the courthouse. This time it wasnt Melissa that was nervous. It was Kate. Kate had been pacing for almost 20 minutes when a police officer motioned them to go into the courtroom. Everyone took their seats. The judge had already entered the courtroom. Melissa's Spanish teacher was standing in front of the judge. She hung her head in shame. The courtroom was dead silent. The judge's voice broke the silence.~

Judge: Mr. Richard Stanley, you are being charged with child molestation. How do you plea?
Teacher: Guilty.

~The whole courtroom gasped at the same moment.~

Judge: Normally, I would sentence you at a later date, but I am going to sentence you now.
Teacher: *nods*
Judge: You are sentenced to 15 years in the state prison. Evidence has shown that you have molested more that 20 children in the 15 years you have been working as a teacher. And to the young lady who was brave enough to come foward...

~Melissa stood up and looked at the judge~

Judge: You are an amazing young lady. You saved so many others from the torment you had to endure. Thank you for your bravery.

~Melissa smiled to herself and sat down~

Judge: *to the police officers* Take Ms. Stanley into custody.

~The police officers did as they were told. Everyone stood up and left the courtroom. That day Kate gave Melissa an envelope. Melissa opened it. In the envelope were papers confirming Kate's adoption of Melissa. Melissa looked up at Kate and smiled. They hugged eachother.Two days later they all flew back to San Francisco. Melissa moved in with Kate. Jinny, Magda and Kate have a closer relationship than they ever did before. They often go out together and recall the memories of their trip to New York.~
