was having a RENT PARTY going to do after about 3 months?-lol Wouldn't she be back in the same situation again if her financial cash flow is the same?

So if this was March of 1975, and her rent was paid for March, April, and May, what happens in June?-lol

Wanda aka Helen Martin went back and forth in between. She was on "Sanford & Son" playing a few characters. One of them was named Millie. She also played a woman named Millie on "What's Happening!!" on a few episodes and she played another character. This was after her stint on "Baby I'm Back."

Yes, I remember her on What's Happening. Roger paid Millie to babysit for Dee, and Millie fell fast asleep while telling Dee a story. She did have some good stints on other shows.

Theodore also played the club owner in the episode where J.J. had to perform or else he would get beat up by those thugs.

Theodore also appeared on "What's Happening!!" as a guy playing poker with the boss of Roger's mama and he also played Al Dunbar, the bootlegging guy in the Doobie Bros. episode. He was married in real-life to Ms. Buchanan, the principal, from White Shadow. He died real young.

BTW, shouldn't "What's Happening!!" have been with a question mark instead of two exclamation points at the end? It is a question afterall.

Maybe she just hit a rough patch and was short on funds for a few months and with the rent assistance, was able to get back on her feet. I know sometimes if I get even a small windfall, it can make all the difference to get my finances back on track.

I guess titling the the show "Here Is What's Happening!!" or "This Is What's Happening!!" didn't have quite the same ring to it, but I have wondered the same.

Wanda was still able to do things on her own, and there are old people who do not want to live in old folks homes. No one in my family has ever lived in an old folks home.

Do you know how much it cost to live in a senior home? It would have probably been cheaper for Wanda to live in her own home. Plus senior living isn't for everybody, my grandma lived in her home until the day she died 2 years ago.

It was very cheap and nice and my grandmom loved it. Then got shuttled around. My mom is excited because she is always eligible for one. You have to have good credit to live in one.

My grandmom's place was nicer than mine and I wished I lived in there. I think the rent is based on your income

But that is in the here and now, What about back in 1975? I believe things were different back then especially for poor African American elderly people. Just in the 50's and 60's they had separate hospitals for blacks and white. So lord only knows the living conditions for a Senior Citizen home were back then. Plus I think that Senior living apartments are a thing that started prob in the late 80's, I don't think they had them back in the 70's. Back then I think it was just nursing homes.

1977 not 1976? I could see if she said the late '70's. I still just find it hard to believe that anyone who's poor would be happy in a senior living home. I think that just because you're old, that doesn't mean that you should or have to leave your home where you're comfortable.

It's not a old folks home. It is low income housing for seniors which helps them maintain their bills. I told you my grandmom's apt was nicer than mine and bigger and I wanted to move in the senior's building

No she didn't live in one until 2007. She lived in a house for almost 40 years but due to a fire she moved to a regular apt. Then she found out about the senior building. But even if the house had not burned down she would not have not still lived there alone in a 3 story house.

So it just seemed like people like wanda and ms vincent would not have been living alone in high rise projects. Those buildings are for single women with kids

So why was Willona living in the projects? She had no kids.

As for Wanda and Ms. Vincent, it is not easy to even get into an apartment in the projects - there are waiting lists a mile long even back in the 70's so, can you imagine trying to get into a senior building where you literally have to wait for someone to die before a space is vacant. Even in my own city there are not enough senior living buildings and we are not big like Chicago. Senior buildings are not always for the low-income, some of them are pretty pricey places to live in. There are only so many for the low-income or those living on a set income don't have much choice as someone who makes a decent living and can afford to move into any apartment building. I have to just imagine that Ms. Vincet and Wanda really didn't have a choice on where they lived. I also imagine the feisty Ms. Vincent enjoyed where she lived. There are old folks who are comfortable living where they are. For all we know, maybe those two were on a waiting list to enter a senior building but in the meantime, they have to live somewhere.

The projects are for single women with children???? What world do you live in? There are single fathers with children, there are old people, old married people and there are married couples who live in the projects. Low income housing is not only for single women with children, low income housing is for anyone who fits into a certain income bracket.

What? The projects became the project after World War II. Some subsidized housing were originally housing for Veterans and their families. Most became subsidized housing for low income families. So they were never really regular apartments, they were always government involved public housing.

Again, why was Willona living there? She had no kids. She didn't even seem to qualify for low-income housing since she was working full-time, receiving alimony and only supporting herself. Florida was married, she was not single.
