According to Variety, the actor has been cast as Zorro for the upcoming movie, Zorro Reborn.
Although details surrounding the project are scarce, it will be written as a futuristic reboot (no word on whether "futuristic" means present-day or the year 3000), separating it from the Antonio Banderas Zorro movies.
Bernal is relatively unknown to mainstream American audiences.
His credits include Y Tu Mamá También, The Motorcycle Diaries and Babel.
Zorro Reborn is tentatively slated for a 2014 release date.
