ThomasE 01-22-2012, 03:11 AM @tube head: I don't think Saved by the bell was canceled per say. It was time for the OG to celebrate graduating and from the show produced two new versions: one for college and one for the next generation of students.
Goldilocks 01-22-2012, 09:56 AM Back to You
I know! right?! I love anything Kelsey Grammar is in.
My list:
Keen Eddie
All My Children
Touched by an Angel
Lone Star
Mr. Television 01-22-2012, 11:11 AM Titus
Norm
Now and Again
Chuck (although I should be happy it lasted this long lol)
I do agree with Back to You. It was hitting it's stride when Fox canceled it.
UMFaninMD 01-22-2012, 01:47 PM The 4400
Murder, She Wrote (I think we could have gotten two or three more seasons)
Mystery Science Theater 3000
The Edge of Night (with the popularity of crime shows again, a mystery-oriented soap that isn't like Desperate Housewives or Revenge could probably work but it would probably have to be in primetime).
James 01-22-2012, 02:13 PM Coach - why didn't we get to see another season of the Orlando Breakers?
Family Matters - we deserved to see Steve and Laura tie the knot!
Our House - why only two measly seasons?
State of Grace - The Wonder Years from a girl's point of view, and only allowed 38 episodes.
The Wonder Years - why didn't we get to see Kevin and Co. graduate high school? Or even go through college a little?

That one should've at least concluded with a third season which resolves everything one way or another.

"Fear Itself" (NBC) 2008-2009

Yep. The show was just starting to gel creatively towards the end of its' one and only season.
And we got cheated out of a good run of it and the two stars went on to lesser sitcoms.

If things don't drastically improve for it, then it will be.
ABC doesn't want to give up on it yet.

catlover79 01-23-2012, 04:29 AM Yup, Tom Verica (who played the dad on American Dreams) was also on Providence. He's one of those good, solid actors who just can't seem to find a hit show (though not for lack of trying).

Didn't that show run for like 9 years? I'd say it more than overstayed it's welcome. The last season on CBS was horrible. They recasted Harriette and it wasn't the same. They should have just killed off Harriette and had Carl as a single dad.
I forgot to add these to my list:
Life On Mars
Memphis Beat
Harper's Island
Valentine
Eastwick
The Gates

FlashForward
The Nine Lives Of Chloe King

I couldn't agree more!! You're right, it ran for 9 years...1989-97 on ABC, and 1997-98 on CBS.

Quantum Leap. I agree with you that the ending was disappointing! Sam never makes it back home. How sad! But I do have to admit that it was a surprise ending. Poor Sam.......... still leaping! Anyway, I have purchased the complete series and have just finished watching it. I wish that it could have gone on a few more seasons. "Oh Boy"..........................:(
Penny Lane 01-26-2012, 03:54 AM I would have liked Gilmore Girls to have gone on . The show never got stale. But it had a good long run. I never tire of watching it!
Regulus 01-26-2012, 09:04 AM One show I regret getting cancelled was the 1979 NBC Series Cliffhangers. An Homage to the Movie Serials of yore, there were three "Stories" in each episode which all ended in a "Cliffhanger". The Stories were:
The Curse of Dracula - A Horror Serial about our favorate Vampire.
Stop Susan Williams - A Foreign Intrigue Serial
The Secret Empire - A Sci-Fi/Western Serial.
The First one of these was played to it's Conclusion, then NBC had the nerve to CANCEL the series WITHOUT Playing the Final Episode, which concluded the final Stories! :angryfire
I FINALLY was able to see how they ended, thanks to a bootleg DVD!
catlover79 01-26-2012, 03:37 PM Stop Susan Williams - A Foreign Intrigue Serial
Wasn't a feature film made about that one?
Regulus 01-26-2012, 05:21 PM I read somewhere that a Movie was made edited from all the segments, but I never saw it. NBC also ran the first four segments of The Curse of Dracula in an attempt to promote the series, to no avail. ( It had the misfortune to run OPPOSITE the ABC's Ratings Powerhouses Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley, which was suicidal for many a series at the time). I had a feeling as I watched it is was going to be a "One-Shot Wonder", but what irked me was THEY REFUSED TO AIR THE FINAL EPISODE! Would one week really been detrimental to the network?. It took me thirty years to find out how they ended, better late than never! Thanks ioffer! :D
Goldilocks 01-26-2012, 05:24 PM ^ I seem to recall the DS remake constantly being pre-empted due to the Gulf War coverage. Was that the reason why it was cancelled?
Yep. :(
A shame too. The remake was awesome! I think it's out on DVD.
retrofan05 01-26-2012, 05:41 PM That was such a great drama. Plus, I love the 60's.

Chelin54 01-26-2012, 10:23 PM Should have become a new show with everyone changing areas and still following the storylines for each person in the group as new families. Now everyone wants to see how their lives have turned out with the new homes and new families. Most of the actors in the show haven't had much success with other ventures. Why stop something that is winning. I want to see Chandler and Monica with the twins, I want to see where Rachel and Ross go and maybe they could have more children. Maybe Joey could change lifestyles and settle down, get married and have kids, there is still so much more they could have explored instead of ending it.
JamesG 01-26-2012, 11:12 PM I also miss "MadTV".
I loved the days when we had both "SNL" and "MadTV".
catlover79 01-27-2012, 12:12 AM Goldilocks, the DS remake from 1991 is indeed available on DVD:
Tubehead 01-29-2012, 01:25 AM i miss smallville. i also miss early edition both are awesomeshow i enjoed Kung Fu: The Legend Continues
. i used to watch reurins of it on tnt after i got home form shcool.
Lola Crazy 01-29-2012, 02:00 AM Thank you for starting this thread. There are plenty of both currently cancelled sitcoms and series and short lived shows in the history of TV that I wish should've been on longer.
Here's the list:
Americas Most Wanted (as a regular show not just special editions)
All My Children
The Simpsons (Woops, I got a little bit ahead of myself. Please say the roumors that it will be cancelled after this season are false!)
Sunshine
Frebbie And The Bean
Married With Children (very funny)
In Living Color
21 Jump Street
Star Wars (Yes Star Wars was on TV! It wasn't a cartoon either. It was on for only one night during the 1978 season.)
The Brady's
The Brady Bunch
E.R. (the comedy that is)
Family Ties
Growing Pains
Mad TV
James At 15 (later called James At 16)
Square Pegs
Also there was this man that had a talk show for a while during the summer back in 1977. I forgot the name of it. Does anybody remember the name? It was good that TV Land aired it several years back. TV Land aired all the episodes of this short lived talk show too.
ThomasE 01-29-2012, 02:40 AM You are quite welcome. I'm glad I'm getting some responses for this thread.
James 01-29-2012, 02:48 AM Is State of Grace on DVD? I haven't seen it but if you say it's a girl's Wonder Years I'm in!
No, not that I'm aware of.
James 01-29-2012, 02:50 AM Family Matters - we deserved to see Steve and Laura tie the knot!
Didn't that show run for like 9 years? I'd say it more than overstayed it's welcome. The last season on CBS was horrible. They recasted Harriette and it wasn't the same. They should have just killed off Harriette and had Carl as a single dad.
Tell that to the producers of The Simpsons, which now has been going on for over 20 years!
catlover79 01-29-2012, 06:25 AM I also miss "MadTV".
The main thing I remember about that show is they had a female cast member who did the funniest Whitney Houston imitation I have ever seen. Loved it!!!
principehomura 01-29-2012, 07:25 AM Firefly

They should have devoted a spin-off to Phoebe and Mike and her trying to fit in with the upper class lifestyle, instead of a stupid Joey spin-off.
