What do you feel are the most scary/creepy/eerie cases involving an unsolved abduction, disappearance or murder? Which stories most disturb you?

well, the one where they found the old man stuffed in a steamer trunk scared the hell out of me and still does. Angela Hammond's disappearance, Blind River rest stop murders and any of the cases involving murdered prostitutes give me the chills. omg:

All of the random killings have always freaked me out. Anytime someone was at the wrong place, at the wrong time always makes you think, "That could have been me."

Agreed. Just thinking about how sick someone can be to just choose a random, innocent person to kill makes me want to lock my doors and keep them locked.

As an adult, I'd say Monika Rizzo's murder was the creepiest. If you haven't seen it yet @1990 UM Fan, its on the Bizarre Murders set you're about to get! :) Definitely listen to the director/producer commentary track on that case!

As a kid, one of the scariest ones for me was Police Chief Webb's murder of Anna Anton. (This one is on the set too) I will never forget the re-enactment scene where the the camera is in a hallway shooting into a room where the two of them are arguing, and the door slowly closes. I remember thinking, "if only the door wouldn't have closed we could have known what happened to her!"

I would have to say Tommy Burkett. That case always interested me and frightened me at the same time!

I find so many of them creepy, but offhand, the 49HUGGER case, because it was so random.
Also, the Charles Morgan case and the Cindy James case.

Oh....and seriously weird: The Sodder children.

I've seen it a handful of times. Something is definitely spooky about her murder. Sad that no one has ever been charged in her death.

Jay Cook & Tanya VonC. - that whole segment creeps me out. That young couple were innocently having a weekend getaway and some lunatic murders them both. So tragic.

Ethel Kidd - the scene of when the police found her tied to a tree is horrifying.

Philip Frazier - goes to show how it's not wise pick up hitchhikers. Philip should not have had "second thoughts" about picking up the hitchhiker. I still can't believe that the Oleson couple weren't also murdered. They were lucky.

Rachel Timmerman - so horrifying how her body was weighed down with cinder blocks in the water. I wonder what happened to baby Shannon?

The David Hurley murder was another one that always freaked me out. Especially since he was shot repeatedly and lived long enough to give a detailed description of his killer and his car. Tack on the fact that his killer was never found and you've got the recipe for one terrified UM viewer.

In my opinion, the scariest UM segments are the unsolved ones, and the ones with the fewest leads. So unsolved missing persons cases really freak me out, like A.J. Breaux, Anthonette Cayedito, Jeremy Bright, Bryan Nisenfeld, etc.

Probably the two most disturbing cases I've ever seen are the L'Enfant case and the Wacker case. L'Enfant was the one where the restaurant owner is abducted and tortured by extremists; he escapes and returns to the states, only to begin receiving nonstop threatening phone calls at his restaurant. There have been no leads in the case, and that is what disturbs me about it.

Diane Shawcroft & Jennifer Lueth deserves to be mentioned. It's eerie enough that their killer hasn't been caught. In addition, there's a good chance that their killer went to their graves and stole their photos as a reminder of their deaths. Creepy to the extreme.

The Aileen Conway segment was so creepy to me. The curtains blowing in the breeze...I don't know, but I did turn on all the lights while watching that segment. That one and the Cindy James segment.

Definitely these two. I actually think Ayleen Conway's case (both the actual details and the way it was presented on UM) is one of the scariest ever profiled. It is completely baffling...where is Ayleen??? Cindy James's case is almost like a mini-horror movie!

So many of UM's cases, like Angela Hammond or the NH serial killer or "Debbie,", are flat-out horrifying...but for eerie/creepy/spooky, I nominate:

-Kathy Hobbs
-Patricia Meehan
-Norman Ladner
-The boys on the railroad tracks in Arkansas

I'm positive the "Debbie" case is online, although it might be lost in the maze of full tv episodes series.

This one had the re-enactment where she is fleeing her kidnapper/attacker while he's shouting that she can't get away from him.

Debbie was a secretary from NC that was abducted after doing some banking, then forced to drive out of town, IIRC even stop at a liquor store, before being raped and shot in the face with a shotgun.

For me it's up there with Jenny Pratt as one of the most brutal attacks featured by UM where the victim survived.

The "Debbie" case might be called Shotgun Survivor. I'm not sure tho. That's what it's named over at the official UM site:

On the forbidden website it's listed under the victim's actual name: Janice Katilius.

Her name wasn't used in the UM segment itself, but it has been released publicly in news media such as this 1994 article:

Unsolved Mysteries did everything possible to insist that race was not a factor in this crime and Robert Stack even made the point of saying that interracial crime was rare. But any example of White-on-Black crime, well then, it must be racially motivated! "Racist White people crime" [literally maybe TWO cases in total which were White-on-Black and were both expressly discussed as being racially motivated] along with "Satanic Cults" which were the red herrings of UM, although that may have been something more characteristic of the eighties in general, as pointed out in another thread.

I try to analyze the television programming I watched growing up for propaganda to ensure that my children are not propagandized in the same fashion I was [which is harder for any source of media to do today thanks to the vast selection of media available today on the internet] and I have to say that this was one of the few areas in UM that disappointed me. The reality is that interracial crime disproportionately victimizes people of European descent to such a large degree that it truly boggles the mind and it astounds me how the media kept a lid on that for so long.
