mention of the world trade center being gone during the remainder of the 2001-02 season or the seasons after that?

Nope, and the show has been largely criticized for it.

No, I don't think so. There was a hilarious Airport scene that was deleted from an episode because it was to air right around the time of Sept 11.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't one of the characters wear a FDNY t shirt?

Yes, Joey wore one in an episode.

And while what happened to the towers was never mentioned or referenced by any of the characters, the eighth season opener had a dedication to the people of New York City after the last scene had faded to black.

I can understand it since the show was kind of like Three's Company so mentioning the Towers wouldn't have been a normal thing for a show like Friends

Precisely. It wouldn't have felt right. It would have been contrived.

Now that I think about it, probably would have been too serious to include inside the script

I'm glad they didn't. I think for a lot the show is a means of escaping daily stress and for 30 minutes you can zone into their world and step away from everything going on in the world.

I don't think it would have worked for a show like Friends because it was an Three's Company type of show. It was no where near topical
