View Full Version : Do you have a DVD player? Attmay 01-17-2002, 11:40 AM Yes or no? Sal 01-17-2002, 04:02 PM Yes I do have a DVD player and this brings me to a question that I have. As DVDs become increasingly popular, more and more TV shows will begin putting episodes on DVD. I've already noticed many classic TV series like "Andy Griffith", "The Lucy Show", "Dick Van Dyke" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" on DVD featuring about half a dozen of their best episodes. This has led to a growing trend where many of today's favorites like "The Sopranos", "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", and "Sex in the City" are putting out whole seasons of episodes on DVD. This makes me wonder: When will the older shows like the ones I mentioned above follow this trend and which "vintage" shows might be the first ones to exploit it? MLB 01-17-2002, 04:27 PM Yes. dawsongirl 01-17-2002, 05:57 PM Yeah, in my computer. TJ 01-17-2002, 08:38 PM Yes, I have one of those Panasonic DVD/VCR combos which really aren't that good of a deal. The VCR was consistently damaging tapes so I have to buy a new one. M*A*S*H season 1 is out on DVD already with other seasons to follow I guess. All in the Family season 1 I believe is coming out in March. The 'seasonal' sets are definitely the way to go. DJM77 01-17-2002, 08:55 PM Yes I do. It's actually a Playstation 2 but I play DVD's on it. Brian 01-18-2002, 12:28 AM I have three DVD players. I have one on my laptop, one on another computer and one hooked up in the family room. I have a feeling that the more DVD's are released, the more obsolete VCR's are going to get. That is unless companies release video's with bonus footage and stuff in the future. AKA 01-20-2002, 07:38 AM Got mine two years ago. Haven't gone back to VHS since. And I don't think I'll ever watch a movie in pan & scan again. Widescreen is ALWAYS the way to go. AKA 01-23-2002, 05:10 AM How odd. I actually posted the above like three days ago. rangers689 01-23-2002, 08:29 AM Yes i have, got one from santa for christmas and looks good ,great picture quality, but what i would like is the new DVD recorder, but will have to wait for a few years are they are very expensive in the UK about £1000 for a recorder but DVD players have come right down in price mine was only £90.   :happyface :happyface    TV Favorites 01-24-2002, 12:22 AM I just got one this past Christmas. Sean Snow 01-24-2002, 06:06 PM I don't have one :( LucyFan 01-24-2002, 06:49 PM Yup! :-) Penny Lane 01-25-2002, 08:56 PM Not yet! I have a library of VHS tapes that I'm not ready to give up on yet! dawsongirl 02-06-2002, 05:51 PM Originally posted by NEWHART FAN I have a library of VHS tapes that I'm not ready to give up on yet! Me too! I just got another DVD player and so far it's lots of fun (if I could just figure everything out!) FOLrocks1 02-06-2002, 08:11 PM Yes i have one. Shouldn't this be on the chit chat though? Dude111 01-31-2021, 01:33 AM Not yet! I have a library of VHS tapes that I'm not ready to give up on yet!:lol:I hope you still do Penny :) I dont have a DVD player either... I do not like digital, especially digital audio..... My mom and dad have one of those soundbars in thier room AND IN THE LIVING ROOM and they sound horrible!!!! They make the house shake, its disgusting!!!!!!!! Its sad people have been so dumbed down/compromised now they think crap is GOOD!!! MA 01-31-2021, 06:42 AM I do, but we don’t use it that often though. 1960'sTVfan 01-31-2021, 02:28 PM I think I first bought a DVD player around 2004 or so, it became necessary to buy one when TV shows started being released on DVD and I wanted to have a collection of my favorite classic shows. I still use VHS also but a big advantage DVD has over VHS is that no rewinding is necessary. With DVD, when you're done watching you just pop the disc out of the player and put it back in the storage case. With VHS, you have to rewind the tape after you're done watching. Also with VHS, sometimes there's a tracking problem with the tape. With DVD, the tracking issue is basically eliminated but sometimes discs can develop problems and won't play anymore. So there's good and bad with both formats. AMackII 01-31-2021, 05:39 PM No, i think I used have it in my house years ago if I remember it right Dude111 01-31-2021, 10:11 PM Yes I do. It's actually a Playstation 2 but I play DVD's on it.Its interesting those things will play DVDs,will they play any?? (Regardless of the region code) tvfan25 02-01-2021, 11:43 AM Of course I have a DVD player. How else would I watch my huge library of dvds? I refuse to watch them on a computer. I want to watch them on a TV. Streaming and watching on computers and phones sucks! DJM77 02-01-2021, 01:16 PM Its interesting those things will play DVDs,will they play any?? (Regardless of the region code) I don't remember. I sold that thing probably 17 years ago. Torgo 02-01-2021, 03:03 PM Since this is 2021, and not 2002, no DVD players, but Blu Ray players, yes. 1960'sTVfan 02-01-2021, 03:15 PM I don't have a Blu Ray player and have no plans to invest in that format, DVD works just fine for me. AB 02-01-2021, 10:04 PM Yes, I have several DVD Player/Recorders. That's so I can record tv shows and watch them later. We have A DVR but my husband took that over and records Sports, those shows about Moonshiners & other weird stuff I wouldn't watch if you paid me to. howierules86 02-04-2021, 11:08 AM Yes, I have a DVD player that I still use frequently. D-Dey 06-23-2021, 05:32 AM I have a portable Blu-Ray player that also plays DVD's and has it's own screen. I have DVD drive on my PC. And I'm actually thinking of getting a Region Free DVD player, because I recently ordered a movie which I found out only played in REGION NUMBER FIVE! tiff7 02-03-2024, 08:30 AM Yes I have one |
