I always thought that if Gale Gordon hadn't gotten the part of Mr Mooney than Frank Nelson would have been good in that or a similar role. I thought of it the other day when he was playing the train conductor on the "I Love Lucy" ep where she kept pulling the emergency cord. They had great chemistry.

I can't imagine Frank Nelson taking the physical abuse that Gale Gordon took as Mr. Mooney. I don't think Frank Nelson ever even got a pie in the face in his long career, nor could he do falls & cartwheels.
