Nope, not him either, but I love that segment!

One crime our mystery bad guy committed that was featured on UM happened in 1986 and he committed similar crimes in 12 states. His victims said that he had a nice way about him and was a likeable guy. His segment was aired in 1991 and he was captured due to a UM viewer's tip. It was then discovered that he was a wanted federal prison escapee!

Wish I could think of a good hint, but all the ones I come up with would give it away. :(

You're right, 1990 UM Fan, about 1,2,3,6 and 7.

I thought that some people might think that #8 was Richard Cepulonis, but the correct answer is actually Michael Wayne Brown

The answer to #4 is William John Wood (aka Max Carson). The victim, who was given the name "Tiffany" by UM, was played by an actress named Tiffany Harris

The answer to #5 is Robert Joos (from the Timothy Coombs segment)

The answer to #9 is J.D. Method

The answer to #10 is Patrick Michael Mitchell

It's been a long time since I've seen the segment, so there may be some names, places and other small details that I don't remember, but from what I know off the top of my head right now is that the Brown case was where Brown shot somebody during a robbery. While in prison, a lady named Donna Moses started writing to him as part of a letter-writing program through her church. Because she had been a lonely widow who hadn't dated in some time (her previous husband had been murdered if I remember correctly), she was really craving male attention to the point where it almost didn't matter who she ended up with. So anyway, it was love at first sight for her when they finally met, however, most other people viewed him as a manipulator who saw it as nothing but a way to bust out of prison. With her help, he successfully accomplished that in 1984. Donna's family heard from her only once after that, in 1987, when Donna made a short, distressed and ultimately pointless phone call to her daughter. Sometime after that, the couple adopted the names "Linda and Kenneth Ginter" and settled somewhere in Ohio. Not much is known about their life during the next decade other than they ran a video rental store together. In 1999, a viewer who was also a close friend of the Ginters (and an employee at their store) was browsing the UM website and noticed that an escaped murderer named Michael Wayne Brown bore a strong resemblance to Kenneth Ginter. He called Ginter and asked him point blank if he was really Michael Brown, to which Brown replied "everybody has a double." The viewer was apparently not convinced, and Brown, fearing that he would call the cops, attempted to flee, but was caught and returned to prison shortly after. Authorities always held firm in their belief that Donna Brown was a kind, non-criminalist type who could easily be taken advantage of by someone like Michael Wayne Brown, and for this reason, she was never charged with any crimes.

Got another one for anybody who wants to test their UM memory. Who is this person?

Barely out of her teens, my mother left her husband (my father) and made the decision to raise me as a single mom.

She loved me and wanted to keep me, but I was taken away from her.

She begged the people who took me to at least give her a photograph of me, but they refused.

A few months later, an unknown person sent my mother a photograph of someone that could have been me. It pictured 4 other people that she did not know.

Decades after my disappearance, my mother was able to obtain DNA test results from someone who was suspected to be me, but there was no match.

That same DNA test also proved that suspected person was not related to the family who, for nearly 40 years, thought was their biological child.

While visiting a foreign country, a man happened upon fraternal twins who looked so much alike, they were nearly identical.

He convinced their guardian to allow the two to be taken to the united states with the understanding that he may never see them again. Money may have even exchanged hands.

It had been said that when two were together they had supernatural abilities and thousands of people attribute life changing events to them. The man only wanted them because he thought he could exploit this talent.

They never benefited from their abilities and eventually parted company with the man. They are still close to his family and visited them in Florida earlier this year.

Is this the one where they claimed the baby died, but the mother was pretty sure they were just lying be cause she was a single mother?

TracyLynnS

Is this the one where they claimed the baby died, but the mother was pretty sure they were just lying be cause she was a single mother?

Yep, that's it! The baby's name was Mary Agnes Gross. Her mother is Marlys Thomas.

Here's the story:

20 year old Marlys left her husband to raise her daughter on her own, but after she gave birth, Marlys was told that her daughter died shortly after being born. She had been sedated during the delivery but has vague images of her daughter moving. Te hospital did not seem interested in an autopsy to explain how her daughter died nor allowed her photos of her daughter's body.

These facts, her memories and her suspicions of certain events have convinced her that her daughter could be very much alive, possibly abducted shortly after she was born.

Soon after Mary's supposed death, a close friend came to see the body of the baby and did not belive that it was Mary. Although Marlys was too sick for her baby's funeral, her mother did attend and noticed another family she did not know in attendance. There was only one fresh grave in the area. It was claimed that another family had lost an infant the same day her daughter died. That infant was named Pamela Rae Dickey.

Three months after "losing" her daughter, Marlys recieved a photograph of an unidentified family that included a husband, wife, and three children, one of which was a newborn baby.

In 1993, Marlys was stunned to realized that the Dickey family had placed a marker on the site where Mary Agnes had allegedly been buried. Several inconsistancies were found on the birth and death certificates for Mary Agnes Gross and Pamela Dickey.

In November of 1996, Marlys had her daughter's body exhumed. DNA testing confirmed that the remains were not those of Mary Agnes Gross. It also proved that the remains were not Pamela's. Marlys now believes that because she was a young, single mother that the hospital decided to give Mary to another family, which was in the picture sent to her, and that she will one day find her daughter.

How about this hint. I considered using it instead of the other description. Maybe this different info will help:

This male and female duo have travelled the world impregnating countless women, some against their will.

Their infamy has caused many women to recognize and avoid them, but once a woman bumps into them, her fate is sealed.

The two have never been prosecuted for their actions.

Nope. Not them.

The hints for this segment are kind of like trick questions. Not all the information is really as it seems to be. ;)

----

I got my ideas for these hints from the old AOL game of "guess movie by plot". One of the hardest ones was when we had to guess a movie with hints like this.

A beautiful backtalking teenager with luxurious long red hair gives her father trouble, rebels, never seems to live up to his expectations, and always hangs out at forbidden places.

Most of the time, she flaunts her body by barely wearing anything more than a skimpy bikini top.

Of course, she's always hanging out in the wrong crowd, which gets her into even more trouble, including her being victimized by the most dangerous and powerful criminal in their neighborhood. She and her boyfriend end up having to kill that woman in self defense.

What movie could this possibly be?

What the original hints were referring to:

While visiting a foreign country, a man happened upon fraternal twins. A guy from Ripley's was searching the world for something interesting for their offices.

The man was able to convince their guardian to allow the two to be taken to the united states. Money may have even exchanged hands! He bought the statues from a shop keeper.

They are still closely connected to his family. They are still connected to the Ripley's business family in that when they returned from a 3 year world tour, the were placed on display this year in the FL Ripley building.

#1)

I'm a well connected authority figure.

A scene in my reenactment looks like a dream sequence, yet it's supposed to depict a real event.

One actress in my segment claims she's hot.

I may have taken something from someone that I never gave back.

People hit the deck when I get near them.

================

#2)

In the 1970s an amateur para psychologist said this location was haunted.

The ghost cares about the location he haunts and even works to take care of the place.

A group of experts tried to obtain proof of the spector's existence, but none of their instruments picked up unusual activity.

Regardless of the lack of evidence, they insist it is haunted and through bad special effects, UM was able to demonstrate what a good throwing arm the ghost has.

Guess this one: (with more obscure clues!)
1) I am really bad at lying.
2) My temper got the best of me.
3) For the ultimate crime, I received a very light sentence.

Very difficult! A couple come to mind, but it could be so many.

Larry George fits the last two clues. He was the guy who killed his ex-wife's neighbors and shot her. Reports differ, but one says that he was sentenced to death and released on a technicality related to his trial. The link below from 2010 says he's on death row. Weird that there's such a difference. Who could goof up "death sentence" with "released"?

http://www.cncpunishment.com/forums/showthread.php?4826-Larry-D-George-Alabama-Death-Row

---

The guy who killed Teresita Basa sort of fits. IIRC, he was sentenced to around 15 years for her murder. His name is Alan Showery. Not sure what's going on with him now.

Actually, no. I tried to be obscure since I've been making it too easy haha. I will give another hint. The reason I saw he's bad at lying is because there is a particular scene reenacted on UM where he lies very badly to investigators in a diner. ;)

Yay! I got it! Strangely (to me) this is not the case I was thinking of that I had read earlier involving a city that had the name of a state. Also, don't even remember seeing this one. You have it in your personal collection?

Paraphrased from your entry on the UM wikia page:

Dorothea Irwin

Wyoming, Ohio

On September 12, 1983, 59 year old Dorothea Irwin was brutally murdered in her home in Wyoming, Ohio.

The prime suspect in her death is her son, John Irwin. He vanished in 1986, has used worthless credit cards in many of his scams, and is wanted for fraud and embezzlement. He is also wanted for questioning in his mother's murder.

Viewer's tips helped authorities arrest John James Irwin in Texas. He served several years in prison, but was released and has never been charged in his mother's murder. However, he still remains the prime suspect in the case.

Richard Anderson? I vaguely remember that segment.

Anyone ever watch those World's Dumbest Driver's shows or Cops, stuff like that? In an episode from one of those kinds of shows, there's dashcam video of a cop pulling a guy over somewhere in the northeast. (The driver has sort of a boston accent.)

The driver is pitching a fit and is completely unable to control himself while the cop is excessively calm. The driver screams at the cop to just give him his ticket so he can go. When he gets it and finds out how much it is, he goes bezerk and his voice pitches up higher. He rips it into confetti and throws it out the window.

The cop makes him get out and pick up (no littering). Which he does, still while acting crazy. When it's all over, the driver pulls away like an idiot and the cop just states very flatly, "Have a nice day" and moseys back to his cruiser like nothing absolutely insane just happened.

Big story to say, that driver reminds me of this case for some reason. Could be the SUV, but I always thought that guy on Cops or whatever it was could be capable of violence on another driver. I think he restrained himself in front of the cop.

BTW, love this topic.

Here in michigan, it's cold, rainy, hubby's working long hours, daughter got married on the 11th and moved out of our home and into her husband's apartment, I hurt my back last week and can't move much, so I'm stuck in front of the TV with my laptop.

Playing this guessing game has really inspired me to look up cases I'd forgotten about and sparked discussion in other threads. Nifty way to pass the time, but also to catch up on old segments I hadn't seen in a long time. :)

I'm a well connected authority figure.
