Well, so far I haven't seen him in seasons 2-4. He may be in season 5 or 6. I'm thinking he might have appeared on Here's Lucy.

Nope, he never worked with Lucille Ball again after the first season of TLS.

I recently read that, while Lucy liked Charles Lane, she was less than thrilled with his propensity to forget lines in front of the studio audience. While Charlie didn't work with Lucy again, his carrer was far from over. Most famously, he played Homer Bedloe on "Petticoat Junction." He also appeared on "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Mister Ed", "Billie", a 1965 feature starring Patty Duke, and he starred in and directed a feature about a homeless man in 1989.

He also was on Bewitched, more than once playing a cranky client of McMann & Tate.

Yep. I forgot "Bewitched." Charlie was one of the most-employed character actors on TV and in films. I have some old "Blondie" films from the late 1930s with him, I just watched the marvelous "It Happened on Fifth Avenue" (1947) with him. "Mother Is A Freshman" (1949) and a 1962 episode of "Pete and Gladys". Like Walter Brennan, he looked essentially the same in these early appearances as he did later on. He and the wonderful Elvia Allman were two of the most recognizable faces on the screen.
lucyandethel 10-30-2011, 12:54 AM I think more than anything, she was looking for an opportunity to get Gale Gordon on the show and she did. I mean, Lane was only a year older than Gordon and I doubt had any worse of a memory.
Jude The Obscure 05-03-2012, 10:31 PM I have been re-watching the first season (and reading The Lucy Book along with it)--I was surprised to realize he only made 3 episodes as Mr. Barnstahl.
Leslie Eckhardt 05-04-2012, 08:29 AM Likewise, I thought he did more. Sometimes it seems as if an actor is in more than they actually are. Paul Lynde only appeared as Uncle Arthur nine times between seasons 2 and 7 on Bewitched, yet I could have sworn it was more than that. (I'm not counting his appearance in season one as Samantha's driving instructor, Harold Harold.)
Jude The Obscure 05-04-2012, 02:41 PM Being talked about in an episode without actually appearing in it, also helps the impression of being there more than you are....another example is Sam the Butcher on The Brady Bunch.
