View Full Version : I really want MeTV

I don't get MeTV on Comcast and I'm getting impatient, but I would like to get it through the air waves. Could someone please explain to me how I have to do it? I'm sorry if this was discussed before but I don't understand how to do it. For starters, I currently have one TV in the house that is NOT hooked up to Comcast cable. On the TV it is marked "Dolby Digital" and also it is marked "dts digital out", whatever that means, but I thought I would mention that.

What exactly do I need to do to try to get MeTV on this television? I'm not sure how old it is/what year it was purchased, but it can't be very old since it has a built in dvd player. I already tried to re-scan it after changing the setting from cable to TV and I put in an old cheapo antenna (not rabbit ears) that I had laying around. It didn't do anything. I just have snow.

This is about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Can someone who is very patient try to help me with this? If so, please type slowly and use small words ;) This isn't my area of expertise and I don't really feel like running back and forth to Radio Shack only to be disappointed and more frustrated

thanks in advance :)

Are you getting MeTV in your area ? Keep adjusting your antenna and re-scanning your digital channels.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I believe it's in my area, just that Comcast hasn't picked it up. I tried moving the antenna around but like I said it's not rabbit ears, just a single skinny antenna, and I think it came with a different older tv I had quite a long time ago. So, what I'm hearing is that maybe I just need a good quality antenna? I don't need any converters, etc that I've been reading about?

Are you getting any channels at all with that tv and antenna ? If not, you might need to get a converter box.

Nope, nothing at all. Are there different types of converter boxes? And do I also need a new and improved antenna?

There are many types of converter boxes,I have a little RCA box that I use.
It's one of the cheapest. Your antenna should be fine, depending how far away you are getting MeTV signal.

I'm no expert but I agree with tiredmike59. If you have a regular(not HDTV) tv that is a few years old you probably need a converter box.And by the way if you still have a regular tv,the types of tv shows Me-tv shows,or in other words the good stuff will look just as good or even better on a regular television. HDTVs are SO over-rated.

The date the tv was manufactured should be on the back. Your best bet would probably be to get an amplified antenna depending on how far away your are from ME-TV's transmitters. You can get a good one at Big Lots for $10 and I've pulled in stations up to 75 miles away with mine.

Just checked the back of tv, says 2004. Btw, I'm still confused about what I need to do just so I can watch MeTV. I do appreciate the input.

Antenna? Converter? Or both?

Sorry.....

You definately need the converter box. If you still can't get MeTV, you should get one of those antennas that Zoneboy is referring to.

Living in CT. I would like ME-TV too. The thing is when your talking about converters, antennas etc. I checked on the ME-TV and its not available in CT. Are you saying you can still get it via antenna? If thats true, what other channels can you get via antenna?

Check out the MeTV website to find the closest they are transmitting from.
Zoneboy said he can pull in some stations 75 miles away with his antenna.

Get a good antenna , I can pull in ME-TV from R.I. 60 miles away in Mass. You might be able to do the same .

All you need is an Antenna and a Digital Converter box the newer tv's come with built in converter but a 2004 one most likely doesnt have one built in. As for the Antenna I tried them all I spent as much as a $100 on a nice one with an amplifier and it didnt work very well. I went back and spent $10 on rabbit ears and it works great and I am over 50 miles from the tower.

i'm in the same situation. I was told by radio shack that I can't get Me-tv in my area with an antenna because of too many tall buildings. So until ComASST picks it up I won't get to see Me-tv

I felt it was telling the truth because their goal is to sell you their products so for him to stop me from buying the antenna pretty much told me he is telling the truth.

I just don't understand why there are still people in New York and Los Angeles that are slow to get MeTV while folks in Dung Heap Wisconsin were some of the first to get it. I thought they would cater to the more populated areas first. Anyone know how they decide to market tv stations these days ?

I would love to get ME-TV and/or Antenna tv, but Nashville doesn't carry them. I have an indoor antenna that I was picking up RTV and WRTN, but ever since I changed from cable to satellite recently, I have lost the signal strength on the antenna. Grrrrrr! Memphis and Chattanooga has ME-TV. C'mon Nashville, darn it!

How did you lose signal strength on your antenna by switching to satellite ?
Isn't it a seperate hook up ?

That's what I don't understand, it is. I have the antenna connected to the back of the tv as always, but the signal strength is 0. I was trying to tune it a little while ago, and got nothing. It baffels me, because it should still be coming in. Being new to satellite, I thought I was doing something wrong, as in I should be changing the video input. Tried different ones, but no change. When I put the tv on antenna, it shows the channel like 6.2, and says no signal in the top left corner. The other day I was getting a 30-40 signal, but I need about a 60 to pick the signal up. Now it stays on 0. Can't figure out the problem. I had to get a signal booster to get the signals from the antenna, but it worked great. Gonna try an ota module to see if that will help.

I did that twice I bought nice 50-60 dollar ones and they didnt work very well the 3rd time i bought the cheap rabbit ears and they worked great. One thing I noticed most places not just Radio Shack are clueless when it comes to information about OTA channels and equipment.

So i should try the cheaper ones? Like 14.99 instead of 34.99?

My 10 dollar rabbit ear antenna works better than my 30 dollar one. I don't know if it's because the rabbit ears are shorter on the 30 dollar antenna or not.

They finally got MeTV here on Comcast! :) Yay! I'm loving all of these old shows! Been watching Mary Taylor Moore, Dick Van Dyke, That Girl every night. Tonight I'm watching Family Affair, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction and I Love Lucy. :) Never seen Family Affair or Petticoat Junction before, but I've heard of them. Might watch My Three Sons too, which I've never seen. So glad they finally got it here!
Hope you all get it where you're at.

Nashville is finally getting Me TV on a full power channel. It will replace the LiveWell network. Me TV has been on a low power channel that hardly anyone can pick up for a couple of years. Grit TV is replacing the Zuus country channel on New Years Day. Now if we could only get Antenna TV & Movies! to come to the area.

Me-tv stopped showing the sitcoms I like, welcome back kotter and the honeymooners.

Bounce TV is now my channel because of the addition of ROC in January:wave:
