As a kid, I watched Family Ties and Diff'rent Strokes on NBC's morning schedule, and Who's the Boss, Growing Pains, Mr. Belvedere and Webster on ABC in the morning.

One oddity was Full House, an ABC show that ran on NBC daytime during the summer of 1991.

ABC showed daytime reruns of "HAPPY DAYS" & "LAVERNE & SHIRLEY" in the 70s. I read that they called them "HAPPY DAYS AGAIN" & "LAVERNE & SHIRLEY AND COMPANY" but I don't remember that.
CBS showed reruns of "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" , "ONE DAY AT A TIME" and "ALL IN THE FAMILY" during the day. Also "MASH"-but of course, that was only a comedy in its first 3 seasons.
NBC used to show reruns of "SANFORD & SON" and "CHICO AND THE MAN" on weekdays in the 70s.

I also remember watching network daytime reruns of 'The Brady Bunch', 'The Jeffersons', 'Alice', 'The Facts of Life', and 'Diff'rent Strokes'. I wish the networks still did this instead of showing talk shows.

When I was little I remember seeing Rawhide in the daytime. when I was in about 3rd grade, I remember being home from school because of snow and seeing Dick Van Dyke, I love Lucy and The Donna Reed Show. After school we would watch Superman and the old Mickey Mouse Club. Now it's all talk shows and other boring stuff.

Positive. It was summer only, and it was immediately before it launched into local syndication. I think they only showed seasons 3 and 4. I don't remember seeing any promos for it, however, but it was definitely on NBC (and not just my local affiliate).

Twenty years later, I still have no idea why NBC was rerunning an ABC show--and a current ABC show, at that!

that's right; I forgot about all them. I think CBS also used to rerun "NEWHART" on weekday afternoons and NBC reran "THE COSBY SHOW" on weekday afternoons too, in the 80s.

no, they also showed the Col. Potter/Charles/B.J. episodes of "THE ALAN ALDA SHOW" (as well as showing reruns in late night) and also some of the later episodes of "AITF".

The landscape of daytime television has changed dramatically in the past twenty-five years. Do you think we'll ever see the return of daytime reruns on the networks?

I think the networks have pretty much ceded most of the daytime it doesn't program back to the affiliates who run either talk, court or informercials.

Bumping this thread to say that until 2 years ago my local CBS station aired Frasier during daytime. It was on at 1:00PM.

I do remember the Perfect Strangers and Full House showings in the early 90s.

I would watch both shows because they were on during different time slots. I was a kid (like 4-5) and that's how I got into both sitcoms.

I do wish they'd go back to showing the old sitcoms during daytime. Instead of these stupid talk shows. I'd much rather catch a rerun of something rare (to syndication) like Perfect Strangers, My Two Dads, or Blossom.

That was a syndicated package purchased locally by your CBS affiliate, though. We're talking about daytime reruns of primetime shows aired nationally by the networks.

The Wayans Bros and The Jaime Foxx Show (2008-2009) on the CW (These shows were airing on CW's daytime schedule and not the syndicated package.

Someone mentioned on their long list that Facts of Life aired in the beginning of 1984 and ended in 1985. It was actually in 1982. I have an episode from when the first episode re ran during the period and as a four year old, I actually remember two particular episodes. December of 1982 (I was 5 by then), my mom was in the hospital with my new baby brother and the show aired around 9am in the morning. It was part two of "the new girl). I remember the tough jail girl saying she wanted Blair's watch and then remember the cute, black girl (Tootie) taunting the jail girl when Tootie got out of jail. That really stuck out to me clearly. LOL. One other ep, I was at my babysitter's and it was a season three ep I think when they were in the cafeteria and they were hanging up a sign "Congratulations, BLAIRE" and Natalie said "There's no "e" in "Blair". She was talking to some girl named Brenda, I think. And something about Tootie having a crush on one of the boys from Bates academy. LOL. This is how I remembered all of that 30 years ago. Too much!!!!

yea, it was 1982. It and Happy Days were both launched into daytime reruns just after two full seasons on the air! Always thought that was strange.

Though some stations would pre-empt certain shows with local or syndicated programming, the networks used to program about eight hours of daytime per day, so they had a lot more real estate with which to air reruns. Now that they've given a considerable amount of daytime hours back to the affiliates, they can't "afford" to spend that time on reruns anymore.

It's another era in television history that, sadly, is long-gone. I miss it. I've never been a fan of soap operas, but I grew up watching game shows and reruns on the networks.

The CW also aired encore episodes of 'Reba', 'What I Like About You' and 'All of Us' for the first few years after they launched.

I think I have a list of the daytime series aired on The WB and UPN somewhere, and if I find it, I'll post it. I remember The WB aired 'E.R.' and '8 Simple Rules' just before it went off the air. And UPN aired 'Breaker High' originals back in the '90s in its daytime block along with kidvid toons.

Three's Company aired back to back episodes during the summer of 1981 on ABC. It replaced Love Boat reruns for the summer only.

I wonder if there was a reason why Full House (an ABC program) aired on NBC's daytine schedule, even for a short while.
