Michael J Fox is really cute in Family Ties and Back to the Future. There don't seem to be very many boys around today who are interested in politics, Republican or Democrat.

You can say that again! I have friends, who don't even know what the difference is between Republican and Democrat! Some of them don't even know who the vice presedant is! I guess I care a little too much about politics, and watch a little too much CNN, but I like to know what is going on in the world, rather than listen to rock music. My friends sometimes ask me some of the rock stars, and I don't know any of the answers. Then I quiz them on politics, and recent news, and they don't know any of the answers! Kind of fun! It just makes me wonder, with the way that the majority of the youth of america is today, what it will be like in 20 years when they are all ruling our country, not to insult anyone ofcourse, and not that I am perfect either. Well, I think I am starting to to get into this too much, and I better stop before the whole message board turns against me! (hehe, love debating!).

I think exactly the same way. I am a lot more interested in politics and what is going on in the world than most people my age that I know. It really bothers me that they don't care about that stuff because it affects them, too. To somehow justify why this should by on the Family Ties Message Board, this is kind of why I love Family Ties so much. I like the political aspect of it, how the parents are liberal, and Alex is so conservative.

Thats neat that your 14! I am too! That's why I love Family Ties so much too! I think it is wonderful that they have the two extreems on political issues. I like the shows when they discus that type of issue the most!

well, g2g. FamilyTiesFan, e-mail me at fastdogs32@hotmail.com if you would like to. I would like to have a friend that cares about politics and what is going on in the world!

I also think it's good how they have two differant extremes. The only bad thing is that they make fun of the Republican/Conservitave side. :crying:
I am very interested in politics. Before I started homeschooling, I would have political debates with my Social Studies Teacher. The bad thing was that my classmates automaticlly agreed with the teacher. Or if anyone agreed with me, they wouldn't say so. That made me so mad!:livid: I stood up for what I beleived. :(
I know nothing about the modern singers and movie stars. I got attacked at a sleepover for asking what Brad Pitt looked like. :o

I don't really know much about movies stars and stuff either, my friends make fun of me for that. But I think that it's kind of funny how they make fun of the Republican side on Family Ties partly because I'm a Democrat. I have political debates with my S.S. teacher, too because he is a very loyal Republican.

Well, I'm a Republican/Conservitave myself.:D One of my best friends is Environmentalist, Democrat, and Liberal. Beleive it or not, I got to be friends with her by arguing :argue: politics with her. lol ;)

That is neat that ur homeschooled!!! I am too! I think if I went to school I would be the laughing stock of every kid and teacher there because I am so conservative, Christain, and republican. I love talking politics though. I have gotten torn apart by kids on the Drill Team (something with the Civil Air Patrol) because I don't know who the rock stars are! Then I ask them what Family Ties, and the other old shows are and they have no idea! I accually like to be different! I like having debates and stuff like that! It does get a little discouraging when I only have a few loyal friends, but I am used to it! I hate it when kids start making fun of me, and the ones that are supost my friends, don't stand up for any of their beliefs, and just try to fit in with the croud. Very Irritating! I just try to think on the future, and how I should try to be the best person I can be so I can excel, and also please God. Oh, Family Ties Fan, don't take this personally, but ever since the first election I can remember, I call democrats dumbocrats (hehe)! Again, nothing personal, or in the words of Alex P. Keaton, "You can still be my friend, even if you are not republican"!

Well, G2G!

LOL! I like this topic!
First of all, I'm fifteen, in tenth grade, and I'm also homeschooled. That's really amazing there're so many homeschoolers here! Can I join the club? :D
Anyway, I'm actually a democrat, but, of course, if you don't want to be a young democrat it won't bother me :). And I *completely* agree about today's kids not caring about politics. I know absolutely *nothing* about all the rock stars and actors and all those people of today. That's probably why I haven't really bothered to make many friends......"This word you keep using...'democratic'...what does it mean?" "Michael J Fox? Who's he?" :( These people...*shakes head and sighs*

OH and I nearly forgot, the original point of this topic :), YES I'm most definitely an MJF fan :).

Peace,

For some reason there are young Republicans, but I have never heard anyone talk about young Democrats. I've been wondering why that is for a long time, and I'm thinking because people assume that if you're a young person than you're a Democrat.

I'm a young Democrat too! LOL I was also beginning to wonder if I was the only one here. Thank God! :-) Of course, I must confess I do like Alex, even though he is a Republican! He's just so cute! LOL

She thought for a moment and said, what is politics??? AHHHH!!! What has this world come to??? A lot of kids I know don't even know if they are gonna vote when they turn 18. AHHH! They all think I am strange because I would rather watch news and old comedies, rather than MTV, and listen to oldies rather than rap! It is soooo fun to be different though!!! It is also fun to try to quiz them on politics!!! LOL! They have nooo idea on what I am talkin about! HEHE:lol:

Yes, I think Michael J Fox is sooo adorable and sweet!

In regards to the discussion about politics, thinking about politics tends to really upset me. I've had too many bad experiences with websites where Canadians were bashing Americans and vice versa. I think Canadians and Americans are supposed to be close friends, and it bothers me to see all this bickering going on. It sure doesn't do much to portray North America in a very positive light. I'm sure they are just the loudmouth minority, though. I'm sure the majority of Canadians and Americans respect each other. Nonetheless, I'd rather not think about politics.

Getting back to Michael J Fox, I really like his view on how we should respect those who politically disagree with us. Even though he leans liberal, he does have respect for people who are politically conservative. It's the way it should be. Politics should not get in the way of friendships. We should be able to disagree of politics and still get along.

He was so cute in Back to the Future! :)

Sorry about my rant earlier on, but politics was brought up earlier in this topic, so I felt like giving my input. :)

Marty McFly, Alex Keaton, and Mike Flaherty are all sweet and kind people - and so is Michael J Fox! :)

I know the last episode of Spin City that MJF was in suggested that Mike Flaherty and Alex P Keaton didn't get along to well. I would like to think that they eventually learn to get along and become friends - as they're both nice guys, just like MJF. I would like to think that all three of MJF's major characters (Alex P Keaton, Mike Flaherty, and Marty McFly) would all get along.

I am a big Michael J fox fan but it's kind of funny how I became a MJF fan. I did like him on Family Ties but I wasn't crazy about him until I saw him on the first Back to the Future movies. When I saw him play Marty McFly I thought he was so cute looking I mean not that he wasn't cute on Family Ties it just I thought he was much hotter when he was marty not wearing those suits all the time like he did as Alex. But MJF is a very good actor I even thought he did a great job on Boston Legal despite his battle with PD. I feel bad for him having to contend with PD it looks like it would be no fun I mean he can't sit still he always has to be moving I bet that gets annoying that poor guy I wonder what its like when he is trying to sleep and he constantly has to move around. I sure hope they come up with a cure for PD. But he is still an amazing guy I saw his recently aired True Hollywood story and it sounds like despite his PD he loves his life and that's great I mean he has had a great career and has a wonderful family, he is just such a great guy.

bttf4444
12-08-2006, 08:33 PM
Yeah, I guess MJF does seem a little more conservative on Family Ties - because, well, his character is conservative. In Back to the Future, he is more like a typical '80s teen. In some ways, Alex P Keaton and Marty McFly are a bit different - but, in other ways, I think they're alike. I'm sure the two characters would get along, if they ever met. I mean, they're both such softies - and they both have an outcast for a best friend. Alex has Skippy Handelman, and Marty has Dr. Emmett Brown.
