Mr. Roboto
Written by Dennis DeYoung

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
Mata ah-oo hima de
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
Himitsu wo shiri tai
You're wondering who I am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in Japan, I am the modren man
I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive
I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control
I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to
And thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For helping me escape just when I needed to
Thank you-thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, please, thank you
The problem's plain to see: too much technology
Machines to save our lives. Machines dehumanize.
The time has come at last
To throw away this mask
So everyone can see
My true identity...
I'm Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy!

ABlairican Pie 01-18-2002, 09:53 PM I have a theory as to when the '80's music scene actually began,
it "unofficially" started roughly about late '78 when the debut albums by Van Halen and the Cars, and a few others began to chart--this meant that the sound and image of the '80s, the commercially accessible metal (with fast guitars) and New Wave
(the "skinny ties" and glasses look, as well as synths) were in.
This lasted for almost the next 15 years until the fall of '91, when
grunge, Nirvana and a slew of Seattle bands practically killed off the cool sound and image of anything '80s. (BOOOO! ) So

ABlairican Pie 01-24-2002, 10:40 PM CORRECTION: Song #137, "Turning Japanese" was done by the Vapors, the other band I mentioned was an old punk band from the late '70's/early 80's.

*sings* Love Believer, so take the love he's given to you....Love Reciever, cuz everything He promised is true, Love Believer, so listen to the song that I sing, you are a Child of the King.
ABlairican Pie 01-25-2002, 09:47 PM CORRECTION: I have noticed Song #52, "Getting Away With It" by Electronic is already at #133. Seeing that I have tried hard not to put the same song twice on my list, I will put "Burning
Down the House" by Talking Heads at #52 instead (both are in DESCENDING order). I decided to stop the ascending order at #150 to count down in descending order for obvious reasons.
So Karli, any comments about Songs #14 through #11? These are your favorites, you know!!
:D

:rotflmao: right... my favorites
ABlairican Pie 01-26-2002, 08:47 PM Ags2000 pointed out that there weren't any mentions of Styx, definitely a band that got us into the '80s. I think it was because they were considered a '70s band, but I have decided to squeeze some in for her:
At #75 (in DESCENDING order), I will put two Styx songs next to "Coming of Age" by Damn Yankees, because Tommy Shaw was in that band with Ted Nugent and Jack Blades of Night Ranger. So at #75-1/2, "Blue Collar Man" and "Sing For the Day" at
#75-3/4 are on the list, both from the Styx album "Pieces of Eight". Neat how I could squeeze them in there like that!!
I would also like to thank U2baby for acknowledging the timeless
contributions of U2, as well as informing us that "hair bands" in the late '80's were "just awful". Now I agree that "The Final Countdown" by Europe WAS pretty bad--I called it "The Whine-al
Countdown", and even Adam Curry on MTV's Headbangers' Ball even mocked it!!--but when has bad taste never been a part of rock & roll??!! All those Butt-rock tunes celebrated what's REALLY important in life--fast cars, fast guitars, and faster women!! And
remember: The higher the hair, the closer to God. Just ask Lisa
in Seasons 6 and 7!!
I did see U2 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle in May '83, the Kingdome in Dec. '97, and the Tacoma Dome last April. With all due respect to the hair-farmer bands, U2 blow-dries them out of the water in concert!! They blow EVERYONE out of the water!!
So here are some more songs I forgot to squeeze in:
In ASCENDING Order:
11-1/2 "Wake Up Dead"--Megadeth
15-1/2 "Clampdown"--the Clash
16-1/2 "Bigmouth Strikes Again"--The Smiths
18-1/2 "Alone Again"--Dokken
19-1/2 "Master of Puppets"--Metallica
30-1/2 "You Can't Stop Rock & Roll"--Twisted Sister
37-1/2 "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph)" A Flock of Seagulls (I actually won this album on the radio in 1983)
38-1/2 "Loud Love"--Soundgarden
43-1/2 "I'm the Man"--Anthrax
67-1/2 "Burning Down One Side"--Robert Plant
70-1/2 "Sometimes She Cries"--Warrant
CORRECTION: Song #76, "Dancing With Myself" by Billy Idol was already at #54. We'll replace #76 with "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol.
79-1/2 "Stand Or Fall"--The Fixx
80-1/2 "Tattoed Love Boys"--the Pretenders
86-1/2 "Who Will You Run To?"--Heart
100-1/2 "Hell Is For Children"--Pat Benatar
125-1/2 "Are 'Friends' Electric?"--Gary Numan
128-1/2 "Always With You, Always With Me"--Joe Satriani
In DESCENDING Order:
341-1/2 "One"--Metallica
335-1/2 "Two Minutes To Midnight"--Iron Maiden
320-1/2 "Rock Lobster"--B-52s
329-1/2 "Wild Wild Life"--Talking Heads
318-1/2 "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love and Understanding"
--Elvis Costello and the Attractions

279-1/2 "Epic"--Faith No More
211-1/2 "Globe Of Frogs"--Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians
196-1/2 "The Killing Moon"--Echo and the Bunnymen
128-1/2 "Borderline"--Madonna
CORRECTION: Song #120 by Bon Jovi is entitled "Wanted Dead Or Alive" (got it mixed up with "Modern Day Cowboy" by Tesla).
No 80's list is complete without a totally politically and biblically incorrect song that everyone is sure to hate by one of the world's most reviled bands that I've included for the sole purpose of upping the creepiness quotient--
114-1/2 "South Of Heaven"--Slayer (right next to Pantera who are good friends with them)
84-1/2 "Tom Sawyer"--Rush (Can't believe I forgot this song!!)
CORRECTION: Song #51, "Private Idaho" by the B-52s was already at #62. In its place we'll put "Legal Tender" by the B-52s at #51.
26-1/2 "Metal Health"--Quiet Riot
BON JOVI : YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME, LIVIN'ON A PRAYER
LITA FORD
MOTLEY CRUE
POISON
JOHN MELLENCAMP
GUN'S 'N' ROSE
DEF LEPPARD
RATT

ABlairican Pie 01-29-2002, 08:15 PM To craz, thanks for reminding me!! I looked over the list and HAD to update:
92 1/2 "Gotta Let Go"--Lita Ford (Descending order)
At Song #18 "Breaking the Chains" by Dokken, I added #18 1/2
"Alone Again" by Dokken--but realized I already had it at #124
(descending). So in its place at 18 1/2, let's put another Lynch Mob song (George Lynch, former Dokken guitarist), "She's Evil But She's Mine"--heck, all the songs are good on that album!!:guitar:
103 1/2 (descending) "She Talks In Stereo"--Gary Myrick and the Figures
103 1/2 (ascending) "I'll See the Light Tonight"--Yngwie Malmsteen.
