View Full Version : 10 popular '90s TV shows that were actually terrible TMC 07-29-2011, 09:49 PM http://flavorwire.com/197921/10-popular-90s-tv-shows-that-were-actually-terrible From "Wings" to "Mad About You" to "Friends" to "Keenan and Kel." Adamantium 07-29-2011, 10:22 PM This list pisses me off! Wings and Hey Dude are two of my favorite shows. yankeesrj12 07-29-2011, 10:30 PM What a terrible list. IllinoisTVFan 07-30-2011, 01:19 AM Always thought Friends was overrated but the rest of the shows I either didn't watch or thought were funny. robyrob 07-30-2011, 09:38 AM although some of the shows on the list were over-rated (Friends, Home Improvement) several of them didn't belong there and there were many more worse shows in that time period. benjamoon 07-30-2011, 10:58 AM This is one of the worst lists I have ever seen. Even if you think some have been overpraised, none of them aren't terrible. Plus, the list is inaccurate at points as well. Mad About You was a smart and witty comedy with great performances from the two leads. They were hardly "always in bed" as the article says. In fact, it was one of the more authentically New York shows. Home Improvement wasn't the best written show but it was certainly fun. Wings was occasionally boring but it had its moments and a good ensemble. It may have been the poor man's Cheers but it was still good. Coach had many funny moments and it was not mostly about him adjusting to his daughter's romantic life as the article said. I swear this writer hasn't even seen some of these shows. And Craig T. Nelson isn't doing anything except ranting on Glenn Beck's show? What about Parenthood? Friends seems to have a very divided response on here but I LOVE it. I think it is brilliantly written and acted with very well developed characters. There's a reason it was one of TV"s most popular shows of all time. Plus, in another case of the writer being wrong - 4 season finales were not about Ross and Rachel. icecream 07-30-2011, 06:28 PM Coach, Mad About You, and Home Improvement were 3 of the best 90s shows. They weren't anywhere near terrible. I agree Coach is no Friday Night Lights, it's much better. factsoflife 07-30-2011, 06:34 PM Sadly almost all of those are shows I watched religiously and LOVED a lot. (Except Kenan and Kel). Fine if it's that one guy's opinion but they should make that clear because, to us, it sounds kind of ridiculous. Friends and Home Improvement are two of my favorite sitcoms - I could rewatch those forever. While I agree that Kenan & Kel were better suited for improv, I've always liked the show and think that, for what it was, it was pretty good. The list shouldn't compare broadcast sitcoms with a show geared towards kids and teens on Nickelodeon. jimpickens 07-30-2011, 06:39 PM That list hit the nail on the head. factsoflife 07-30-2011, 06:39 PM Friends seems to have a very divided response on here but I LOVE it. Friends, in general is very divided in terms of how people react to it, but in now way is it one of the worst sitcoms of the 90's. The fact this list made no mention of many of the awful shows to come out of UPN's first three years or FOX's early days is moronic. Not to mention half the stuff that aired after friends and seinfeld (Suddenly Susan, Caroline in the city, union square, et all)... BTW, I love Friends, it had a lot of witty, funny moments and had compelling characters. JamesG 07-30-2011, 06:54 PM I can say that I've never heard of "Dave's World". Mr. Television 07-31-2011, 12:48 AM Personally I'll take Caroline in the City over Friends any day. So would I. Mr. Television 07-31-2011, 12:50 AM I can say that I've never heard of "Dave's World". How popular was/is this show? It was ranked in the top 20 during the first two years I believe. It was part of CBS' Monday night comedy lineup in the early 90's. Harry Anderson went on Dave's World a year after Night Court had ended. factsoflife 07-31-2011, 11:33 AM It was ranked in the top 20 during the first two years I believe. It was part of CBS' Monday night comedy lineup in the early 90's. Harry Anderson went on Dave's World a year after Night Court had ended. It was one of those shows that after it's first couple seasons sort of got shuffled around the schedule, and I think eventually landed on like Friday or Saturday or something where it wasn't watched much. It's first two years it was ranked #21 but after moving timeslots was less popular and it's last season it was ranked #94. I liked the show and thought at the time that it was funny. It was also the home to a pre-Seinfeld Patrick Warburton. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave%27s_World BLT 07-31-2011, 11:41 AM I never cared for friends or mad about you and got tired of home improvement early on. Coach has its moments but it was a bit 'dry' if I remember right. James 07-31-2011, 01:58 PM I totally agree with the author regarding Mad About You and Friends, but I happened to like Home Improvement and Coach. My list would put replace my two likes with Married ... with Children and NYPD Blue. |
